X32 Discussion

re: X32 Discussion

Hello

It is 4.00 in the morning. Just returned from first gig. VERY NICE!!

However - one issue bugs me - saving entire screen.

I had three bands and two had soundcheck - after each check I saved it and gave it a name. When trying to recall, it asked me : "Do you wish to replace existing CHANNEL" ???????

SO - NOT entire setup - only one channel.

Tomorrow I have 5 bands and next day 6.

So please - if anybody has a hint, what I did wrong or ignored, please advice.

All in all - for instance the possibility to select the function of first 16 and next 8 faders separately is nice - I could stay in "normal channels" on left and work the effects on right - also effects seem to be easily editable - and Behringer has put some of their functions as default in custom encoders and switches. COOL - I did not have to figure it out yet.

Audience and bands were pleased with my job - and I had very good time with x32 - other things..... - oh well - u know the story of sagging schedules etc...

So if anybody wants to buy used Soundcraft Spirit 324, 328 or 328XD - make an offer ;-)))

re: X32 Discussion

A cople of silly questions, but first about clicking where I want the fader to move, what about having right click move the fader? Still to risky?
Anyway, I found that I could move a bunch of faders rather quickly by using the wheel on the mouse, so I'll survive

The low cut and high cut filters on channels and mixbuses look like they are fixed slope. Is this just the graphic in the XControl, or are they 12dB/oct. only?

What is VEQ?

Bummer, you probably saved a preset instead of saving a scene

Scenesaving: Press Wiew button in the Scenes section - follow menu and or press Save
Presetsaving: Select channel - Home - Utility - Store setting

re: X32 Discussion

Hey Everyone,

Been a long time lurker here, but finally joined after following this thread from the beginning! I ordered my X32 back in January and finally go it this week. So far it's been as I have expected and I'm really enjoying using the unit.

I have a few questions that for some reason I can't seem to figure out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have mix bus 1 set up as pre fader and I plan to use it as a monitor mix. When I add the input channels I want to send to the monitor, all is well...except, when I go to the right side of the console and I select the Bus 1-8 button, as I move the bus 1 fader, it does not change the overall volume of my mix in the monitor. Can anyone tell me where I may be going wrong? I would like to set my mix up and use the bus fader to control the overall volume. Even if I have the fader pulled all the way down, I still get sound in the monitor.

The other question I can't seem to figure out is this. If I have reverb on bus 13 and I am using it to send to multiple vocal channels. Some of my clients like to have the reverb in their monitor mix. How can I add the reverb in a monitor mix if someone would like it? Personally I don't like reverb in monitors, but some do.

I have read the Quick Start Guide and the user manual, but I can't figure out answers to these questions or where I could be going wrong.

Thanks for everyone who has contributed to this post, it's been very helpful.

Also, FYI, I have tried calling the Behringer tech support which, as of this week, has moved to Las Vegas. Low and behold, the guy I have spoken to 3 times now has informed me they just got their X32 mixer this week and answering my questions has been very slow. It's been 2 days now and no one there has been able to figure out my reverb question.

Thanks to all!

What you probably have done is that you have the output from mix bus 1 as prefader to analog out 1. You want that to be postfader. (analog out tab in Routing)
In the channel view - sends tab, you can select pre/post for the sends, first sends are default pre fader, so no need to do anything, really.
The other question I can't seem to figure out is this. If I have reverb on bus 13 and I am using it to send to multiple vocal channels. Select Aux in FX rtn on the left faderbank - select the fx return you want - select sends on fader to send to mixbus 1-8 or 9-16 on the right hand faderbank

re: X32 Discussion

Per,

Thanks for the info, you are absolutely correct on what I did! I got it working now. Thanks again, I appreciate the very quick answer!

re: X32 Discussion

Two other things I thought of, and maybe it's not possible.

Can you insert a limiter on the main out and a graphic EQ (if for some reason you wanted to) or is it one or the other?

Last thing. Lets say I have 8 monitor mixes. Can I somehow get 8 graphic EQ's for those mixes, or am I limited to 4 on the insert side and whatever left over I have on the sidechain side of effects which can be switched to inserts?

Guten Morgen Karl:)
Concerning limiter and GEQ, I think it is one or the other. You can use up to 16 mono, or eight stereo GEQ (say you want to use the X32 as a monitor desk). But you have to trade in all of your FX for that.

re: X32 Discussion

Hello everyone,

I am reading this thread since months now and I have to thank you all for your great answers to so many questions, especially to Christian! ;-)
I should receive my X32 next week, so I was happy to see that the XControl software is available now to start setting up the board. But is it correct that you can't save your work (presets and scenes) at the moment? Can it only synchronize with a connected board in current beta version?

Thanks,
Andreas

Guten Morgen nach Düren:)
Yes, you are right. By now you can only send an "on the fly made" mix scene to the board. It is still a beta version after all (not even close to a V1.0 release). So there will be things to come.

If u are playing whit the Xremote and the desk not syncronice from pc to desk it wil reset al your FX values to zero

Karl,

if you dont need the matrix to do other things, route the main out through the matrix, in this way you can insert GEQ in the master and limiter in the matrix, keep in mind that the limiter will add latency ( roughly 1,7ms )

Uwe,

That's a great idea. I didn't think of it. I generally don't use/need the matrix mixes. Thanks for the idea!

re: X32 Discussion

Why would you have to connect the x32 to an external midi controller (FOR DAW CONTROL) ...? WHy can't Behringer do it?

Rats, I didn't realize this was the case. I was hoping that there would be MIDI emulation built into the recording card that would handle this. Maybe in future..... I am also hopeful that the MIDI input could eventually be passed to the DAW to allow connection of things like e-drums and keyboards, as sync could be an issue if mixing the X32 with other midi interface devices...

Christian or anyone, do you know if this is planned?

re: X32 Discussion

Hello

Second gigday done - 5 bands - teddyboys and -girls all over the place...

Per - thanks for advice - found it working. Saving scene is now breeze.

That gave me the idea to go almost anywhere the shortest way : push the associated VIEW-button and you´re right there or very close. After tomorrow is done I am going to dive into all details - like how to program the "personal" encoders and switches - that too looked quite easy, but since the factory presets do fine at moment, I wont risk anything, since sleep is hard to get and one looses attention to details after a while.....

Per or Christian, or anybody else who might know: What happens, if I just turn power off instead using "Safe shutdown" @ setup. Just might loose some last modifications of mix or perhaps break something??

This unit is absolutely fantastic value for the money. Sure it does not do everything, that a 100.000,- ++ Studer does, but even as an ex-Studer-worker I see this perfect for bands or small/medium pa-companies. Why not for big companies, too , so they can afford do smaller gigs. Not to mention, that ANY 100.000,- ++ console would NEVER pay itself in small-time operation, like mine...

I totally agree with Christian about preamp-issue - these are good enough - other thigs have multitudes bigger effect on sound - I use mostly MBHO condenser mics everywhere on pa - exept for vocals, where I have MBHO dynamics..... Sure my micset is not cheap, but it gives brilliant signal to my board. So there is not so much need to process it - just concentrate on balance - and everybody is happy. ( SM58 makes good doorstop...)

KARL - you wanted limiter and eq on master - master has built-in compressor, which can be tweaked to act as limiter - then just add graphic eq - and do not forget, that there is 6-band full parametric on that output, too...

USB-port on top

I tried to record and play with one mic - works - on the way home question arised - can I connect iPod or similar into it and play back prerecorded music ( this would be handy, if all inputs were occupied - not too soon in my future - just a thought )

re: X32 Discussion

“At present you are still in line to receive your initial shipment of X32 at the same time as our distributor in the UK.

I'm aware of the various websites discussing availability of X32, unfortunately most of them are only focussing on the time when we first showed the X32 under glass at NAMM 2011 and not when Behringer actually announced that it was available for shipping. The first units will arrive in the UK over the next five to six weeks.

Due to a slight problem with the implementation of SAP we have been experiencing some minor delays in shipping, which will result in X32 being available in the UK in September as opposed to August which we advertised on our website as the official launch month.

The above is part of an e-mail chain between Music Group and DV to which I am party. I have also spoken directly to senior management in both DV and Music Group, and all of these discussions reflect very well on both companies.

I believe I placed the first retail order for the X32 in the UK, and Music Group and DV have confirmed that the first shipment of X32's to reach the UK will include mine. Many thanks to John Steven of Music Group and Paul Dennis of DV for their help.

I never used the "safe shut", I always just pull the plug. The X32 behaves a bit different like f.e. a Yamaha desk in this topic. The Yamaha will "come back" always with the lastest settings before the power dropped. The X32 does not store consistently. It has a store-interval of 1 or 2 minutes. So there is not contiunous autosave in the background, what eats up processiong power. On the other hand, during a power loss or when not using safe shutdown, you might lose the latest settings (if you not manually stored them before) made one or two minutes before. I'm fine with that, but I thought this would be good to know.
@Uwe: +1 on your idea with the martices:)
