X32 Discussion

Apple Thunderbolt/Firewire MIDI problem

I posted over on the Behringer forums, but I think replies are slow over there because of the moderated postings.

So... I have identified "some issue" with MIDI over firewire on a retina MacBook using the Thunderbolt-Firewire adapter. Audio over Firewire seems to work fine, but the MIDI interface never shows up.
Using direct Firewire (no Thunderbolt) to an older MacBook works as expected, X32 MIDI shows up as "Plug 1".

Not sure if this is a problem with the X32 or the Apple adapter/Thunderbolt. Just wanted to let anyone with a retina MacBook know.

Thanks
JK

are there plans to release xcontrol for mac? I have the iPad app but it seems you can't do very much with it :?~:-?~:???:

also, with my 2nd desk the fader issue is no longer present and I tested my channel 32 and I do not have the noise issue some people have been having

Re: Thon case for x32

Hi

Is that the Thon case as sold by Thomann as an x32 bundle. It looks very good, I particularly like the way the dog box is made.

iPhone & iPod App Needed

I would love to see Behringer branch out to the iPhone as well by adding an app to control just the bus sends. That way my musicians who are on wireless in-ear monitors can control their mix with their iPhone's onstage rather than needing to have an iPad.

Eventually it would be nice to have the XIControl app available for the android platform, one of my audio techs was hoping for this as he does not have an iPad.

This really needs to happen.

Having the iPhone & iPod app on my Presonus Studio Live certainly makes it easier for the performers on stage to quickly adjust their (in-ear) monitor mix.

Demo unit

Just checked out the x32 at the guitar center. One of the channel strip was not functioning.

It's a pretty big board compared to the line6.

Yes, there are plans for a Mac version. I observed the PC version running on a MacBook Pro w/ Parallels and only 4 gig of
Ram and it ran fine. And the iPad app will have more functionality soon down the road.

We had two X32s today. Neither showed any problems.

re: X32 Discussion

I have been using the latest beta of the upcoming Version 2 XiControl iPad app for the X32 and thought I’d share it with you on this forum.

Since we released Version 1 some weeks ago, many of you have asked about added functionality including effects processing and other control from the iPad app. While we are not ready to release V2 just yet and it will take some more months, the following screen shot will give you some idea of where we’re going with XiControl.
We're also currently developing a very cool iPhone Personal Monitor Mix app. As mentioned earlier, this is just the beginning of a series of revolutionary products surrounding the X32 and all other consoles to follow.

Of course this is all pre-release and completely against the advice of our software team so keep it between us; I wouldn’t want to get in trouble.:)

Wouldn't want you to get into trouble with your team, but maybe you could ask your team to sign us up as beta testers, please, please, please

re: X32 Discussion

I just wanted to clarify... The noise issue on mine is on 16, and Greg's is on 32.

From the photos he provided, the problem appears to be similar, but not identical.

Are you guys sure there is nothing different about that channel's processing, like makeup gain being cranked way up on a compressor? I feel like a processing issue would easily exacerbate the noise of a preamp being cranked all the way up.

re: X32 Discussion

Thanks to reports from some forum members we have been made aware of a noise issue affecting certain X32 consoles. The issue is generally reported as increased noise on channels 16 and 32.

Since the first report of this issue we have obtained one of the affected consoles and identified both the source of the noise and the relatively simple fix. During production a limited number of consoles were wired with an internal cable improperly routed too close to the mic preamp boards, resulting in the inducted noise from the control cables.
Properly rerouting the short cable solves the issue permanently.

We will soon post a service advisory how to address the issue and will make this right.

"That was easy"

Re: RMA'd

The X32 is build in blocks of eight. You got four inputs cards and two outputcards. If you (theoretical) switch the first input card (1-8) with the last one (25-32), and the noise is still there in channel 32, than chances are high, that this is somekind of software issue.

Swapping the card would only shed further light. The problem could also be related to a marginal component close by, or the backplane. Several other items come to mind.

In any event, at this point, without going through a thorough and thoughtful diagnostic procedure, the cause and solution is speculation.

Or, it could be related to a cable that's routed too close to a pre-amp. :)~:)~

Factory reset.

You bring up an interesting point, though. I can't readily see on the block diagram where the metering point(s) are.

It would be nice to know. But, I'll figure it out anyway.

On a new board, I always push a sine wave through a channel's XLR, and put the output on a scope.

For example, unless I've missed it in the current documentation, what does "clip" actually mean... Does it really mean clip, or do I really have another X dBu?

From the spec sheet, it might be 2 dBu down. That's fine, I just want to know. If I see a clip light flicker, is that something I need to deal with NOW, or can it wait for a moment because I'm working on something else?

re: X32 Discussion

Good morning beautiful people:)

Just for the record, gig no.48 went well too.
Very small venue with extreme room modes! So glad, that each output on the X32 has an
6 band fully parametric EQ. Otherwise I woud have been in trouble.

In the next weeks, some more bigger open air gigs are on the schedule.
I'm planing to do one of them with two X32, one for Monitor and one for Foh.
Let's see.
