Hit the view button next to SCENES, then Utility. There it is - export to USB. I had trouble with this too. As intuitive as the board is generally, Behry could have done better with this one.

One more thing - if the scenes aren't saved, you won't be exporting anything. Just because settings are live on the board does not mean they're saved to a scene! And when you import a show, you have to fire a saved scene of the show before you're back in that show...if that makes sense.

RMA'd

Well, we received our X32 today.

Unfortunately, I’ve already had to request an RMA from Musician's Friend.

Two problems with it, right out of the box:

- Channel 16 is noisy, at least on the meter. When the gain on the channel reaches +48, the meter starts showing signal. This does not happen on any other channel. (The meters show no signal, even at +60.) So, there’s 10-11 dB of noise on Channel 16, relative to the same setting on other channels. (As an aside, I did do a factory reset, and confirmed there’s nothing configured differently on the channel, relative to the others.)

- The fader on Channel 12 is noisy. It “chatters” when it’s controlled with another channel. Visually, through the fader slot, I can see the belt vibrating. (For example, when the Aux/Fx Return layer is selected, it's grouped with Channel 11. When I move Channel 11, Channel 12 follows. But, it's loud. "Chatter" is the best word I can use to describe the noise.) It's also noisy when moved by the push encoder under the screen.

Musician's Friend is now back-ordered. Who knows when we'll get the replacement.

That did it thanks. Now i just need to get in the habit of exporting the show to usb. A couple of hours of playing around and configuring down the drain. I saved a scene earlier but forgot to save it again. Oh well looks like i get to play... i mean work on it tomorrow.

Wordsin "-" are what you´ll find on top of Cubase window.

Starting with "File" - select "New project" - "empty" - a window opens to suggest Project folder. Give it a name or number or so...

Go to "Project" - select "Add track" - choose as many you need - in my template i have 32 mono tracks - in real situation I only arm as many to record, that have something connected in them - just to save space on hard disk.

"Project" - "Project setup" is where you choose clock freguency and record format - i.e. 48kHz 24bit

"Devices" - "Device stup" - "VST audio system" - select your driver "X_UF (2665)"

Then you have to set up all input and outputs - I did that manually for each track, since I did not know any other way...

Once you are done, you can save all this in "File" - "Save as template"

Next time it will be there ready and waiting.


What have I forgotten - well , maybe someone can assist futher - after all - I am more tapemachineman.....

I had to find the dialog where you map the tracks to the inputs and outputs, but then it worked perfectly with Cubase 5.1.

Quality control didn't check the assignable button no 11. It didn't make a physical contact, though the LED under the button did what it had to do!

Contacted my supplier, they'll send me another one. Tomorrow I'll be the happy owner of a, hopefully, flawlessly working console.

In the latest SOS field test the reviewer noted that " a couple of these buttons had a tendancy to stick now and again,too and one in particular (the EQ mode selector, which unfortunately isn't one that lights up) tended to stay in its down position which meant that subsequent presses had no effect until I realised it was jammed".

Has anyone else had similar physical controller issues?

It seems that a thorough test of all functionality is required on receiving the unit - nice if someone could come up with a test schedule!

Hate to say it but I had to take mine back too. Although I bought from Guitar Center so I just swapped out for a new one.

My issue was that when recalling fader positions, channel 5 would "stick" ie it would buzz for a second or so and then find the position.

After reading that some people had issues with their desks I checked mine - alles gut - kaikki hyvin - everything o.k.

I understand, that for the individual, who gets a sticky knob or fader, it is at least awkward, for some - they loose their sleep.

But before we start singing in choir . " Yeah - just what we expected" or anything as unfair, since there must already by now be thousands or tenthousands perfectly working units out . Thanks Almighty we do NOT get report of all those - this forum would seem very monotonous - "I´ve got it - everything is o.k." - 10.000 times / 500 pages.

I - as old Studer-lover - remember, how I bought Studer A67 portable VU-version at 1976 or so... - it worked first allright, but after some months a problem started. Tape transport went bezerk - all control-lights were blinking - no action on machine - no smoke either.

The kind a guy as I am - I did NOT take it to import company service - though in same town - but opened it myself. I started measuring the voltages on PSU and quickly discovered, that +5V line was low - very low. Culprit was - believe it or not - NOT the regulator, but the screw, that was holding it against heatsink. The person fastening it had put it in at wrong angle and it jammed after one or two turns without pushing the regulator tight against heatsink. Since they wre using pressure-air screwdrivers, he/she propably never noticed anything different from normal.

It took quite long time for the machine to run to heat up 5V regulator - so it passed the inspection. I too had it working without any issues for months.

After putting the same screw in at right angle and tightening it all the way down the problem was resolved. That A67 is still around and working.

It costed 17.000 FIM at the time - reasonable slary was 1500 FIM per month - so quite expensive, but good sounding.


SO - what Iam trying to say is : Let´s not allow some bad units spoil the whole scenario - of course we all hope, that Behringer will take good care of those - it has happened to Studer, too - and propably just about any manufacturer in business.

If an assembly process results in premature failure of a device, that is a quality control issue. Saying that the assembler had no way of knowing they screwed up just shows that the manufacturing process was flawed. Yeah, it's cheaper to do it that way, but when it cuts down on reliability, that's the problem.

The concern I have with what I'm reading is that there are a fair number of posts cropping up where boards are having weird issues OUT OF THE BOX. These things should have been caught and taken care of at the factory. Yes, demand is high right now, and I'm sure they are pushing out a huge number of boxes, but if quality control is not there, that's a problem.

Testing every console completely would most definitely add to the cost of production, so I guess it's understandable to have a few lemons out of the gate, and I'm sure manufacturing processes will be improved over time to lessen the failures. Still, every board that leaves the factory with issues solidifies Behringer's previous reputation that they are trying to leave behind.

I don't enjoy defending Behringer, but it is much too early, and way too few "anecdotal" reports to infer any design or quality trends from this very slender data.

This was actually a little expected from the number of newbies who joined this community just to say "me too". Buying a product sight unseen with no history in the marketplace, suggests to me that some disappointments will occur. It will be instructive about customer support to see how quickly and satisfactorily these infant failures get resolved. Time and more data points will inform us about whether these products have real issues, or this is just part of the learning curve that all new products experience. I am not smart enough to read a few posts here and know conclusively one way or the other.

The real issue IMO is not perfection out of the gate, but how well these units perform when they are constructively put into service, and how they hold up over time and use. Be patient and pay attention to the aggregate data from experienced users that will take time to accumulate.. we are still in the early days. The reality will emerge soon enough.

I thought I throw in some good news. I do have the board since febuary this year (it had firmware V0.4, I guess) and just came back from gig No.47. I used one S-16 and had for the first time a guest engineer on the X32. Five piece band, small venue about 120pax. Fine as always! I never had trouble with this desk, but it seems, that I should really clean up my work space. What a mess:-)






Tomorrow I'm heading for gig No.48:-)

Hi Christian,

Thanks for the continued info posts. Is that a mixer lamp I see plugged into the USB?? I thought the manual said that wouldn't work, so never tried it. Looks like you have discovered another handy 'feature' on the board. Do you know if the USB port will also charge iPods if plugged in there?

Also, is that the Thon case from Thoman? If it is, can you tell me if that is the 'standard' X32 case? Looks like it has plenty of extra room. Are you happy with the case?

I'm freelanced. I do sound for a local rock-coverband, that is on the road for almost 18 years now. I went to school with some of the band members and we are still all good friends. This band does about 35 gig a year (give or take 5). Than I'm doing some festivals (system tec and/or Foh take care) and do sound for other Top40 bands. Occasionally I work for three local companys, but my wife insists, that I don't do any more than 60gig per years. This year it will be more I guess, but don't tell:-)
During the week I run my recording studio and I'm writing reviews for a German Pro Audio ( tools4music: tools4music ) magazine.

And of course I spend way to much time here:-)

I have ( or had to) do lot's of jobs with boards like 01V96, LS9, A&H MixWizzard..and there was little fun in mixing. It works, but it is always a fight for me. Than I went the SAC road and I never looked back. Sold all my "normal" consoles (still own a Soundcraft Vienna II - but this beast is to big and to heavy and nobody buys such a dinosaur anymore, That's why I'm keep it) and went with SAC. Then Behringer asked, if I would be interessted in Beta testing the X32. Well - that's brought me here. The fun in mixing is back and I use the X32 side by side to my SAC rig and even when the venue provides a board in the ballpark of 01V96, LS9. I tend to bring my own X32 or SAC.
