Re: RMA'd
If the manual says to do it, it could be because the port isn't designed to deliver power to devices. Per USB spec the light should work, but maybe there is some rare scenario, where a light could draw too much power and cause a glitch. So, the solution is to say in the manual that you're not supposed to do that. If you decide to ignore the manual and it does cause problems, then it's your fault.
As far as defending Behringer, they have a lot riding on this product. It's got an amazing set of features at a far lower price than anyone else. Reviews of early testers have been extremely positive. It could be a turning point for the reputation of the company. I'm sure they've sold a ton more of these boards in the few weeks they have been available than any other manufacturer did in the same period, so just counting the number of complaints is hard to gauge. Still, the problems are starting to pop up on many forums, and it's worth paying attention to.
To be a real player in the higher end market, you need to be able to ship products that a customer has faith that it's going to work out of the box, with no trouble. Because of their previous reputation, they are going to be under high scrutiny for some time now. Hopefully that's a good thing, and forces everyone to step up their game.
Hi Christian,
Thanks for the continued info posts. Is that a mixer lamp I see plugged into the USB?? I thought the manual said that wouldn't work, so never tried it. Looks like you have discovered another handy 'feature' on the board. Do you know if the USB port will also charge iPods if plugged in there?
