X32 Discussion

Re: X32 Screen Accident

Since this afternoon I'm also a owner of a X32 (in Belgium) and after some experiments I'm really impressed with the quality of the sound and build quality
I used to work with Roland RSS systems, but the X32 sounds cleaner to me. EQ response is nice. Faders and fader respons seems to be better than the RSS :). The temporay muting during a parameter change in the FX is a little bit annoying, hopefully this will be fixed in a future FW release. Tomorrow some testing with iPad, Xcontrol & Waves 9 integration

My PC and the X32 over firewire seems to have a lot of issues (TI chipset on an Express Card from Belkin in an HP Notebook, Christian some suggestions for tweaking Win7 ?) but USB seems to work fine with 24 channels.

First gig for the X32 is this weekend... If this is a success, I'll probably buy a second one and definitly some S16.....

Would love to see some uploads for the libraries for dynamics, EQ, and effects similar to what was pre-loaded on to the DDX3216, it was very helpful to not dial everything in from scratch and there were some very useful settings. I envision this to be somewhat like some of the Line Six stuff where people "share" sounds. It would also be cool to share complete set ups with complete with routing. You could just pop it on a USB stick and load it up, then slice and dice for your particular needs.

Re: X32 Screen Accident

How do you get the solo to listen to a DCA?

There has to be some setting I have wrong. When I solo a DCA, it listens to nothing. Thanks!

A DCA isn't a signal path, there is nothing to listen to, I'm afraid.

Edit: Wrong answer, see Christian's reply below for the right answer

re: X32 Discussion

I think it will work, in the "Card out" tab in routing you select "Out 9-16" as the source for the "Expansion Card Output 1-8"
Your buses are normally routed to these outputs, but just in case make sure in the "analog out" tab. If you are not using these outputs, you might want to set the tap at prefader if you don't want to control the level with the bus faders.
That should get you the signal into the computer on ASIO channel 1 and 2, and then you have to make sure you have patched it right i Audacaty

Thanks Christian and Per for your response. Per, your instructions worked. Now I have audacity receiving a dedicated recording input level from x32 bussmix9 and playing back the recorded track on Aux IN channels 1/2 all via USB driver/connection.

My reasoning for wanting to do it this way is that it mirrors our previous method from our old sound desk. Trying to make the transition from Mackie 24 to x32 as simple as possible for our volunteer sound desk operators.

Thanks again
Marty

re: X32 Discussion

Next question from the newbie - how can I link two faders together - eg - Channels 1+2, L+R, as a stereo pair, so when I move channel 1, channel two automatically follows, such as Fx1L and Fx1R found in the Aux in/USB returns layer on the console operate?

Select channel one. On the home screen, the first encoder (far left) under the screen you should see "link", select with the encoder and confirm with the arrow keys and this links channels 1 and 2

Yes Per was right. I totally forgot about the "card out" tab in the routing section. Sorry for that! Glad, it worked out for you:)

That sucks. My old Allen & heath allowed to solo a VCA. Basically it would do an after fade listen on all of the channels that are part of that VCA. If the Behringer guys are reading this, that would be a great addition in a firmware upgrade.

Also having the mute buttons light on the channels if a DCA is muted would be helpful too.

Solo DCA works perfect here! Basically the DCA Solo builds a virtual sum of all channels routed to that DCA, mirroring the fader postions and pan settings. Please check, if your DCA Solo level is set to "DCA Solo AFL". Press the "view" button in the Monitor section and check the options. With "DCA Solo AFL" engaged, you won't hear anything if the DCA fader is closed. Just uncheck any option in the monitor section and you DCA Solo should work.

Re: X32 Screen Accident

My X32 hasn't arrived yet, grrr, so I'm not able to test it. But in the manual, page 28, it says:
6. Use "DCA Group AFL" if you want to put contents of a soloed DCA group into after-fader listen mode when the solo button is pressed on a DCA channel.

Correct. I just mentioned the AFL option, because Drew seems to have no signal at all. So, with AFL engaged, he will hear nothing, when the DCA fader is down even when the Solo button is pushed. I thought, that might be the problem, why he is hearing nothing.

Anyway, just wanted to made clear, that soloing DCA groups definitley works!

Re: X32 Screen Accident

Not sure if this has been brought this up yet or not. But I found a small issue in the software today. In the Channel safe screen of the desk you can see the "busses" clearly have the aux in's and fx returns listed below it and the "returns" clearly have the busses listed below that. It seems to me that whoever labeled these categories in the software reversed the titles. See picture.

It's wrong in the user manual too (V2.0 page 64)

Column 1: Channels
• Input Channels 1-16
Column 2: Channels
• Input Channels 17-32
Column 3: Buses
• Aux 1-8
• FX 1L through 4R
Column 4: Returns
• Mix 1-16

Column 5: Main/Matrix/Groups
• Matrix 1-6
• LR Bus
• Center/Mono Bus
• DCA groups 1-8
• FX Return 1L through 4R

How many people would be interested in this ? (Hit 'Like' if you are interested)

Im happy to set up a website where they can be upload / downloaded if theres enough interest.

I ordered from Thomann on Wednesday afternoon and was told it was out of stock (case bundle). They didn't tell me whether it was the case or the desk that was out of stock. It now says, "Commissioning in process - Items are being collected.". The X32 is full green "in stock" and the case is still 2-5 days.

Behringer is setting up a website, don't know what exactly is going to be on it, so I was waiting to see if that would meet our needs/wants.

However, there is a site, x32user.net that can be used for this and other purposes.

I haven't done much with it, waiting to see what Behringer wanted to dffer, but if anybody wants to have an unofficcial user group, feel free to join in. Moderators and webwizzards please apply :)~:)~
