X32 Discussion

re: X32 Discussion

Just preparing my rig for the weekend gig. Hopefully the last OpenAir gig this year, getting quite cold at night these days.
I just assembled a S-16 rack-->

Before you ask, I lend the two S-16 from the Behringer R&D. They were so kind, to let me use the S-16. Next week I will a do a four band festival with the S-16s.
Above I racked my P-16D and my P-16M are in the drawer. I use a rackdevice from Thomann for racking the P16D-->

Thon Rack Adapter 1U 25 - Thomann UK Cyberstore

The P16D has two screws at the bottom, I replaced these with two slightly longer ones and it fits perfectly with the thomann device.
Have a great weekend!

Christian,

That rack adapter shelf is perfect. I've had the need for something like that previously so it's great you've pointed it out along with the rubber sheet you use to roll over cat5 cable.

Sorry to run slightly off topic again

UK X32 folks -
I see Studiospares and Gak have fulfilled orders. DV247 haven't got their stock yet, has anyone else who ordered via DV any news? I'm quite surprised as Electrovision told me all UK retailers who placed orders will have their stock by now.

Cheers

re: X32 Discussion

As much as I love my X32, the support isn't quite what I expected. I have noise on channels 16 and 32, so I called US tech support to check my options. I was told it was an easy fix, I could do it myself in 20 minutes and they would email me the procedure within the hour. I hadn't received it by the next day, so I called back and was told they were still working on getting the procedure written up, and someone would definitely call me back that day. That was two days ago and still haven't heard anything.

I picked up one of the new Mackie DL1608s for $2000 dollars less, and although its not nearly as powerful as the X32, I can still do gigs without any outboard gear and the iPad app blows away Behringer's XiControl app. I can also leave the mixer on the stage, so I wouldn't need to spend more money on the digital snake boxes when they are finally released. After waiting a year and a half, I'm thinking I may return the X32.

@Sam: I hope the Behringer guys will contact you soon.

Thank you for wasting a few minutes of my time.

Due to your excellent coverage of the X32 I actually thought this video was going to be something worthwhile. You should have included some sort of emoticon to indicate sarcasm. So this guy shows how clueless Behringer customers can be?

But thank you for your time on the X32.

re: X32 Discussion

The 3rd picture is your issue. You have a couple ways to get the DAW returned to the X32:

1) Just return the DAW L/R (master) channels - do this by configuring "Card 1-4" in the "Aux In 1-4" in ROUTING->HOME. Then, you can set your DAW to use either 1-2 or 3-4 as your master return - you can find your returns on the 3rd layer (Aux In / USB FX Returns), faders 1-4

2) To route ALL your channels from the DAW back to the X32 (as a "virtual soundcheck", for example), In the ROUTING->HOME screen, in each of the "Inputs ..." columns, scroll down to the bottom of the list and select "Card <x>-<y>". A simple routing would be, Inputs 1-8 get their signal from Card 1-8, and so on.... Don't forget to set up any appropriate routing in the DAW to line up the channels correctly.

Hope this helps!

Don

Dear Don

Thanks for the reply. Well I got to that part, this isn't my issue per say. I rather keep my aux free for other external effects and tube pres. What I would like to know is if when you have a mic going on local 1, EQd, compressed etc... the recorded result in a DAW is not the same as I was hearing it before recording it. It just sounds clean and unprocessed as if what goes on the XUF doesn't use any of the Channel Strip of the X32. Is that correct and is there a way around this?

I am sorry that you have not received the response that was promised. I am sending you a PM for contact info and I will address this myself.

Re: X32 Screen Accident

So speaking of version 1.02 compared to 1.08 does anyone have a summery of all of the updates between these versions.

Just catching up with the forum after two days of playing with my brand new X32. Pretty awesome except for the cheapo fader knobs. Maybe someone could make a replacement pack for a tenner? :)~:)~

I noticed nobody appears to have answered the above question so I thought I'd point out that if you download the latest firmware update and unzip it, there is a text file within that shows all the additions / fixes / changes. You can also view the PDF on the Behringer website:

Re: X32 Screen Accident

Anyone waiting for a Real Time Analyser to be added to the x32 ?? I certainly am :)

That's the one addition I'm waiting for too. At the moment, my plan is to use my old DSP8024 with the recommended measurement mic to monitor the pink noise through the PA whilst tweaking a stereo graphic inserted into the X32 main LR. I've no idea how accurate that setup is, but it's free.

As far as I can tell so far the channel out is fixed pre eq and pre dynamics and cannot be tapped later. Sometimes this can be annoying, but for a fixed location it is the best place. As long as you record the maximum samplesize, there are no real disadvantages to doing eq and compression later, only advantages. It was different in the old days when you recorded to analogue tape and really needed to compress and eq before taping.
If you really need to eq and compress, your only option is to send the signals to busses and patch the card to those busses, but that will limit your channel count obviously.
For a live take, chances are that the eq you are recording won't be right anyway, and further eq will be needed in the studio. For studio work, you will normally have channels enough to tap later, or double tap, because you don't often record a lot of channels simultainiously.
I'm a strong believer in only processing once, no matter how good this digital technology is supposed to be, less repetitive processing will equal better sound quality.

re: X32 Discussion

Even in the US, pricing have increased dramatically, went from 5-600$ the piece to 900$ the piece ...

Shayne did you received your console yet ?

Ot

nope supposedly getting delivery sept 24th - monday... we'll see... just in time to not use it on any gigs. Let's see ordered July 2012 ....
except for the one I bought to install in a club install, I'd rather cancel the second, and wait till spring until i actually need one again...
I guess it'll give me the winter to bone up on it, it'll also act as the spare IF the club console goes down for any reason.

I find that interesting. I received my X32 yesterday and discovered a mechanical problem with the ch 1 fader. When I asked US Tech Support if I could replace it myself, they told me that if I opened it up, it would void the warranty. They're making me send it to a repair center (although they still haven't sent me the RMA). So I guess it's OK to open it up for the noise problem, but not for a fader problem???

I wouldn't mind opening it up and fixing the channel 16 and replacing the LCD myself. It's modular, it's not like they are soldered pieces.

Dear Jim,

I just sent you a PM, but wanted to address the comments regarding opening unit. Any time that a unit is opened, we want to make sure that it is done by a qualified technician so no additional damage is done. This is the same for a fader replacement as it is for the noise issue. I appologize for the confusion.

re: X32 Discussion

In case anyone is interested I just tried out the new iPhone 5 in the phone holder on the X32 and it fits, with no room to spare, but it fits. When I get an iPhone case I don't think it will fit.

re: X32 Discussion

So they told me it was shipping today...what they failed to mention is that it would be delivered today! Christmas came early!

Thanks for the PM Pat.

I must say that I'm now genuinely impressed with the Las Vegas support staff!! It wasn't 15 minutes after I posted my comment that I received a phone call from them. After a brief conversation, your tech told me that he would arrange to have the console shipped to Vegas rather than to my local authorized repair center in Michigan. He told me that he, personally, would not only fix my reported problem, but go through the whole console, top to bottom, to make sure that there were no other problems. Now, I come back to this forum and find a PM from you as well. I'm sold. Kudos!

That's excellent! Uli personally contacted me via PM this morning about my LCD and channel 16 problem. Great customer service!
Hopefully, Behringer takes care of the channel 16 and 32 issue soon; it's bleeding time, money, and perception of quality.
