Nice! I was planning on doing the same thing too - makes sense to be wireless, will be able to control the desk *and* some music from an iPad! Let us know if this setup works seamlessly...

Its seems there are still a lot of bugs with this board, I need them as well as all of you to be fixed, but the recording/usb stick problems, lack of proper board control via the ipad (FULL control), some units with QC problems... I know Behringer is stepping up, but they need to do it faster... Usb recorder should wirte in mp3, with options to choose your bitrate, board should be able to format its own USB sticks, FULL ipad control, and make it friendlier, easier to work with, the flow of the ipad app is detrimental, you guys should use the ipads swipe capabilities... it seems like old programmers are doing the app with no regard to flow/user interface, etc.... 'come on Behringer !!! This might seem like a rant but it's not, all I want is a fully functioning board.... This thing is a beast but these little "bugs" make it hard to work with the board to those of us that have previous experience using ipads to control a board.

That being said , I think this needs a firmware change !! The mixer didn't tell me it had run out of space and didn't record just 2gb . It just wrote the file name and nothing in it.

How about changing the firmware to detect the file system, warn the user about the file size, and instead of just writing nothing write the 2 gig then start a new file for another 2gb etc etc.

I have only had a short play with the USB recording - not too intuitive (especially the play back) was finding hard to to record to a named folder - but sure sort that out.

However re the 2 gig thing - why not try stopping the recording between a song / band change and re start the recorder - from my quick play I think this should start a new file. Certainly when I do a multi-track hard disk recording I do try and do a save occasionally (the mackie unit I have would lose the recording from the last save say if a power cut !!!),

Some minor (and some maybe less minor re SW changes) things I would like to see ( some may be there but have not found them – if so please point me in the right direction!)

- Peak hold with variable duration on the meters (maybe it is there – could not see it).
- Display of db settings of the faders – apart from on channel the home screen – say on the scribble strips (like for the graphic eq’s) or on the fader meter screen – prefer the former – sometimes want to temporarily adjust a fader and then set it back to the "exact" previous position – but suppose can just use an assignable button to take me to the home screen) - though admit the faders are very sensitive and sometimes fiddly say to get exactly 0db for instance (why you ask?)
- On say the home screen the option to press one of the encoders to re-set the channel fader at the 0db position (or is that there could not see it).
- (also may be an additional screen to show all the gain settings in one scan of the eyes – not too important)
- scene fade and fade time option to change/morph all the (non safe recall parameters ) over a given time ( say 0/off to 10 seconds) to the new settings – faders/ compression/ eq etc.
- transport controls for the XUF interface face when not in DAW remote control mode – i.e. just playing back channels from a Daw re the 32 in out ( and combinations thereof) plus also with the ability to set markers – say up to 100 (is the transport there? could not see it and have not tried DAW remote control yet )
- to have dynamic automation – ( perhaps the select buttons could be used to arm the channels for recording and playback of automation data) and the automation data could be recorded to the USB stick.
- ability to play back files/ tracks from the USB stick at a different sample rate to the one the consol is set at ( not a big issue – could be useful for playing “interlude” music – but other just as good options for this) and not bothered about MP3!


Of these it is the dynamic automation I would like to see most!

Now I know about it I will stop and restart the recording but I think the desk should do that for you automatically 8)~8-)~:cool:

I picked up one of the new Mackie DL1608s for $2000 dollars less, and although its not nearly as powerful as the X32, I can still do gigs without any outboard gear and the iPad app blows away Behringer's XiControl app. I can also leave the mixer on the stage, so I wouldn't need to spend more money on the digital snake boxes when they are finally released. After waiting a year and a half, I'm thinking I may return the X32.

I wanted to reply to my own message here, and thank the Behringer crew (Joe, Pat and a few others) for stepping up and going beyond the call of duty, and helping me out with this issue. I was hoping for some help, but these guys really went out of their way to make sure my mixer was working the way that it should. Tonight will be my tenth gig with the X32, and except for the minor noise on channels 16 & 32, it has performed flawlessly. At my last gig, I received more compliments than I ever have about the sound. Thanks again to Behringer.

I would not classify your disappointment with the feature set as "bugs."

You can substitute the word of your preference for "bug", but to me if the USB doesn't perform its due to "word of choice here".... and the ipad app to control the board it's just not controlling enough to make it a useful tool for mixing, its great if you want to name your channels, but using the ipad to do that is an understatement of the power that lies hidden in the app.... As I said before, this board is a beast, but i sure hope Behringer will polish all these details soon, very soon...

Overall I am pleased with my X32 and think it represents good value for money however it is missing one important feature for me that is a must for a live desk of this type.

I would like a mode whereby the PFL button switches the screen to a spectrum analyser for the respective PFL and also a selectable mic. channel to link to the spectrum anyliser to aid ringing out.

It would also be good to be able to toggle the display between spectrum analyser and EQ.
Or to have feedback detect "LEDS" like Behringers analogue EQ's.

Was trying to set up my x32 tonight with a graphic eq and limiter on LR master. Could only get graphic by using up one of the 8 FX slots and the same for the limiter. Is that the only way to get graphic and limiter on FOH with x32? Also was trying to allocate the graphic and limiter to assignable buttons group "C" 11 & 12 , but it appeared that I could only have one inserted at a time!
Those with more experience might be able to show me what I'm doing wrong - it would be appreciated, thanks.

So far we are digging the console (Live and Studio Jobs)

Some of the things on my wish list are, fully functioning iPad App (Had to call the guys at Behringer yesterday because the latest ver of the app ver 1.1 has a pretty bad bug,the main out slider and the matrix out sliders were all greyed out and not functioning, the guy checked it while I was still on the phone with him and did confirm it was a problem and would call who needed to be call to get it fixed as soon as possible) the new features that have been added were nice though.

I really wish there was away to record all 32 tracks (48k 24bit wav format) onto the usb stick or to a small external hard drive (we have already been using a small external hard drive and it has been working great with the standard 2 track recording) While I was on the phone with the tech dept yesterday I thought I would mention this must wanted feature and he said he would pass it along ( I sure hope)
We have been using the MyMix monitoring system for awhile that lets you record all individual 16 tracks 48k 24 bit wav on to a sd card in the side of each unit along with a 2 track mix also, so I know this is being done to some extent on at least one new product so far.(myMix - Personal Mixing & Multi-track Recording)

I have been wishing for this since first hearing about the USB facility on the console over a year ago. After selling my HD24 for live multitrack recording, not having to firewire out to a Macbook would be PERFECT

I also had this problem today at church. But other than that, the board and app has worked flawlessly the last 5 Sundays! I even have my musicians mixing their wireless in ear monitors with an additional iPad up on the stage which has taken a lot of work from my hands. I am eager for when they release the iPhone monitor mixing app.

First and foremost, I want to thank you for choosing BEHRINGER, and purchasing an X32.

I can tell you we are doing everything in our power to listen to you, our customer.

USB Stick:
I am reaching out to our development team in Germany and will see if there is a specific USB stick they have qualified. I want to point out that this is a USB stick issue, not an X32 issue. Bottom line, some inexpensive USB sticks have slow buffering, not allowing digital audio recording to work properly. Also, note many user issues with the USB recording functions, have been, user related, as they have not followed the manual and formatted the stick for FAT32. Note, the manual does recommend: "Please test the recording capability of your USB device before you do the “real stuff” as some sticks may not be supported or be too slow."

Page 32 of the X32 Manual:
5.16 Recording a 2-track directly with the console
The X32 offers the possibility to record a 2-track of your mix (or any other selection of signals) directly onto a USB-stick/external USB hard disk:
• Plug a FAT-formatted (FAT12, FAT16, FAT32) USB stick into the USB port next to the main display.
• Press the VIEW button next to the USB port and the home screen of the recorder will show up with a nice emulation of an old tape deck.
• On the config tab you can select the source for the recording, default is main L and R.
• Press RECORD (encoder #5) to record your mix.
• To adjust the volume during playback, press the AUX IN / USB FX RETURN button next to the fader section and adjust the volume with the AUX 7/8 faders.
Remarks:
Due to the FAT format of the stick, the file size will be limited to 2 GB, which is about 3 hours of stereo recording. Please test the recording capability of your USB device before you do the “real stuff” as some sticks may not be supported or be too slow. We also recommend you defragment your USB device prior to recording. The recording will be done as 16-bit WAV file with the selected sample frequency of the console.
Please also note that it is possible that the specifications of USB storage devices may be changed by the manufacturer without any change in physical appearance or notification.


In regards to the iPad app:
I have seen information about the final iPad app for the X32, and can say you will not be disappointed, it will rival anything in the industry, but it is taking time. The X32 just hit the market approximately 1 month ago. We have addressed any issues with near immediate firmware upgrades, as this is the immediate need. The iPad app will follow suit with updates as we add functionality and just like the X32 itself will have an unprecedented feature set.


Service Issues:
In regards to any service issues that have come up (and there have been relatively few), we have diligently been helping those users in every way possible. I urge any user to send me a PM if they need help in any way with there X32.

One of the cards we are talking about, (for the X32), would be a card that plugs into the same slot as the XUF 32x32 firewire/USB card, (that ships with the X32). The card would allow direct recording to a USB stick or hard drive. I believe it may be limited to 24 tracks, (due to USB stick speed), but would supply the capability you are looking for.

I will keep you posted as I hear more on this.

Hopefully such a card would be configurable to different formats depending on the media capability.
It wouldn't make much sense to limit it to 24 track (and 16 bit?) because of limitations of some storage devices if the card is intrinsictly capable of supporting 32 ch. 24 bit to a fast USB hard drive.
I would buy the card to record 32 channels 24 bit to a 2TB hard drive, but would see it as a waste of money if the card was only marginally more capable than the present card in its ability to record to usb-drives.
