X32 Discussion

re: X32 Discussion

Problem like this one here too : the console got a freeze then restarted ("reboot") ???? 8O~8-O~
I've checked the voltage in the plugs, 225v, normal here !
Any ideas ?
Tks.

Hi Guys,

We have tested the X32 down to 85 Volts, but if you have a sag in voltage for more than 20ms, it could cause a freeze or reboot.
Obviously, when you tested your voltage it might have read 225v but possible it sagged down, with you unaware of this, causing the freeze.
We do recommend that you use a UPS in any critical situation.
I know a lot of outdoor festivals in particular, can have wild voltage swings, affecting any digital device.

Not sure if this is the issue, but I have only heard of this happening with sagging voltage.

Send me a PM if I can assist further.

Hope it helps.

re: X32 Discussion

Hi All,

Just thought I'd come on to thank the original poster on this. I exchanged a few PM's and the outcome is that I don't need to install a prefix under WINE Bottler, I just click on the Xcontrol.exe file and it works just fine. There is one point which might help others. If you have Mountain Lion installed then you need to install Xquartz. Xquartz is the further development of X11 which Apple dropped from Mountain Lion onwards. WINE needs Xquartx (aka X11) to work.

I could do with some help on this, I tried to install Wine Bottler but that said I needed an X11 server (I'm using Mountain Lion). So I installed XQuartz as that now replaces the unsupported X11, installed Wine Bottler and then tried to install a new prefix using the Xcontrol.exe as the base file. The install gets to about 50%, Xcontrol appears on the screen but the install never finishes. Do I need a connection to take place to the actual X32 for the Wine Bottler installation to complete.? How long did your install take?

re: X32 Discussion

The Behringer X32 is now available here in Brazil, but it costs R$17.490,00 which equals to US$8300,00... I have just checked 3 stores which buy from the local behringer dealer.

I'd really like to understand why we have to pay so much more. I understand Brazil has high import taxes (60% for buying direct from the US as an individual, for instance) but $8300,00 just seems like an opportunity to earn more money. That's really outrageous...

Can Behringer please check if our local sales rep is putting the correct price tag on them???

re: X32 Discussion

What can we expect on the next generation firmware for the X32 ??? I guess Behringer will unveil it in NAMM 2013 in January, and I will be there... but what insight can we have as to look forward to... like full EQ+Dynamics on all AUX Returns ???

And what about full EQ + Dynamics on DCA's as to not be forced to use a Buss before the DCA ??? (Given the fact we only have 16 buses)

Tkank you for your answer, Mr Sanborn. :)

As sag in voltage for around 20ms can possibly be unnoticed by humans, it's a very interesting info.

Best regards and thank you for the care.

re: X32 Discussion

Does the X32 have profile/scene lock? E.g looking at buying this desk for our church but as we have many groups that would use it, some know what they are doing & some don't, is there a way of booting the desk into a certain profile or scene every time? Can you lock scenes so no one can change it with out a password?

As others have said, it's not there yet - but don't forget: this is a digital desk. Be sure to have MULTIPLE copies of your show/scene files. That way if someone does change the console in a bad way you can always pop in a USB drive and reset it with no problem. I'm even contemplating putting a "Break glass in case of emergancy" flash drive with a copy of our master show file so if push comes to shove there is always a good copy of the show file available. Yup, a bit of extra work to keep the backups in sync - but it's still better than having to do everything from scratch with a manual desk!

Just to re-iterate Joe's suggestion, having a good UPS is really critical! Thankfully good UPS's are fairly inexpensive. I highly recommend a dual inverter/double conversion/online model. They are a little bit more, but they completely isolate you from the mains voltage - there are two inverters in them (hence the slightly higher cost) - one invertor runs your equipment off the battery, and there is a second that charges the battery.

Especially at an outdoor festival, club with bad wiring or any venue with wonky power a good UPS can be the cheapest insurance policy you can take out! Even better there are rack mounted versions to integrate cleanly in your setup - as long as you have 2U or so free :)

And this isn't directed at Greg but just a general statement. I'm always amazed that people will agonize about field upgrading of parts or having redundant components in case something dies, but then balk at paying $600 or so for a decent UPS. None of this equipment works without reliable power, and everything these days basically has a computer inside of it. If you are loosing power supplies or having other random equipment failure issues stop blaming the manufacturers (at least right off the bat) - start with the basics and make sure you have clean power!

Unless you have constant conversion model, it will be absolutely useless not following this recommendation. The moderately priced voltage sensing switchover models usually take a full cycle and longer to come online, and will thus exceed the 20mS limit Joe mentions. Gone are the days when decent equipment would have generous caps the size of coke cans and be oblivious to minor glitches in the supply.

PS I was suggesting the Eaton 3S in another topic as a cheap alternative that gets the job done.

Actually, it supposed to mean, if you can figure the dark joke, that we need more busses...

You can't have EQ/Dynamics on DCAs because well... they are DCAs... What do you need more than 16 busses for?

Thats why I recommended that style ;) Check the link in my post for a CyberPower model - but all the good UPS manufacturers have them.

Constant conversion isn't a name I have heard before, but it's the same thing. And pricing in them has really come down so it's not that much of a hardship to ensure you have "the good stuff".

Steady chaps, we are all on different parts of a learning curve, we were all newbies once. So lets help each other, as this is what forums are for. We need a friendly fraternity on this groundbreaking product.

Using the X32 for Corporate Shows

I had a quick look at the X32 console at Guitar Center, read the manual from cover to cover, (almost) and then played with X-Control. I'm very impressed with it at the price. But there are some things which would cause me a problem in the corporate environment.

First, it seems you can't assign the oscillator to individual mix busses. I use two busses to send to the record decks, and at any time I will need to ship tone to them without affecting anything else. So the present situation doesn't work, unless I have misunderstood. Unfortunately the Monitor screen is not available in X-Control so I couldn't explore further.

Second, I can't see how to assign my stereo left and right to matrix one and two respectively, to drive the main PA in stereo. Seems that it sends a mix of both both left and right to each matrix. I don't run any part of the PA directly from the stereo, it all goes to a matrix first. Am I missing something?

Third, if I had a card in the console, could I assign the insert points of the input channels to the card so that I could insert sixteen channels of Dugan automixer? Or could the Dugan be connected via ADAT? Or better still, are there any thoughts of making a Dugan Card similar to that available for the Yamaha digitals? (amusingly this would no doubt cost more than the console!)

For me, the X32 seems comparable to the Yamaha LS9-32. It is missing some of the LS9's features such as the Custom Fader Layer which is very useful, and the LS9 has more comprehensive routing.

But you certainly can't compare the price!

Thoughts appreciated,

Mick Berg.

Sorry, my wording was quite clumsy. What I was trying to put across was that your recommendation for style of UPS shouldn't be taken as mere suggestive recommendation, but as an absolute necessity.

My suggestion is that such a device doesn't have to cost a fortune since the power requirements are quite modest.

re: X32 Discussion

Did you soloed output 1 and listen, if the clipping was in your phones as well? Are you sure, that you didn't build a feedback loop somehow?

Hi Christiaan, du bist zu krug

You were right, I had two sends going that caused the clipping sound, I had a practice session and a gig this morning and everything works perfect, I even recorded a two track onto mem stick and 14 tracks into reaper on my laptop with usb. All is well, works great, and the console sounds amazing.

Thanx

if you pair/link matrix 1+2 the first encoder will control level and the second will control balance.

haven't tried that out but i think at the moment you could only have 4 inserts of the card (inserts only fx + aux1-6) but you could "split" 16ch - meaning you configure 1-16 with local 1-16 and 17-32 with card 1-16 and where you'd have the "inserted" automixer - you'd be limited to 16ch somehow.

cheers,
flo

Dear Daniel,

Why a BMW 328i in Brazil costs about U$ 96,000 .00 , while in the USA, the price is just $ 38,950 .00, namely 2.5 times more in Brazil than in the USA?

Why a camera Sony DSC-W610, in the Amazon USA is offered at $ 88.00, while the site of Casas Bahia in Brazil offers the same camera at $ 246,00, meaning 2.8 times more?

Why a Digital Mixing Console Yamaha LS9 32 is priced in Brazil, 2.3 times more than in the USA?

For the same reason that a Behringer X 32 in the Brazilian retail, costs about 2.2 times more than in European sales sites or 2.4 times more than American sales sites. Because of the huge Brazilian tax load.
Import duties and other taxes in Brazil are the highest in the world.

Within the final price paid by a consumer for an electronic product in Brazil, on average, almost 70% are import duties, taxes, fees etc.

According to ProShows’ work philosophy, Behringer distributor in Brazil, good quality products are offered with the most competitive prices possible. We always work with low margins and high volumes.

Despite the fact that ProShows works with low margins, customers in Brazil can still count with the following advantages:

- We offer end users of this equipment extended warranty of one year beyond that provided for by law.

- We have the most extensive and well structured technical assistance network of Brazil, with more than 170 points spread around the country.

- We provide technical support 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, for any type of demand that end users can have.
- We have a large and well prepared team of technicians and experts to instruction on operation of this equipment, as well as for the after sales support. ProShows has in stock more than 24,000 different spare parts for all the products that we distribute in Brazil.

- We are offering, free of charge, in all regions of the country, special training of operating the X 32. It is a real marathon, being held by a legion of internal and external collaborators of ProShows, which seeks to bring the knowledge on this equipment in all corners of Brazil.

- Behringer is revolutionizing the professional audio market with products that offer an extraordinary cost-benefit ratio. It is the best value for money that you can get in the market. The X 32, for example, offers more technological resources than their closest competitors, is more up to date, is more compact and, in spite of this, it costs, in Brazil, around half the price of those. Is a real technological revolution and we believe, it will create a new era in the professional audio market.

- The X 32 is already an extraordinary success around the world and we will continue our efforts to popularize the use of this equipment in Brazil.

- We thank the hundreds of Brazilian clients who, in just two weeks of sales, already acquired the Behringer X 32.
