X32 Discussion

Re: Tap sync

Hey guys, I just a crazy idea....
With the Tap delay button you obviously tap this button on the beat to set the tap delay etc. of an effect, is it possible to have this button's function connected to a midi input say from the bass drum of an electronic drum kit ??
Wouldn't that be so awesome to do ??

Hope someone can shed some light on this

Thanx
Andre

There are chorus and delay plugins with autosync so it shouldn't be too difficult to actually have the effect do this by itself without the need for midi, just another feature we could request, I guess.

Re: New version of XiControl

Hey guys,

I just wanted to mention that I mixed a band tonight on a SL 16.4, using the iPad app. It sounded pretty good, though I was missing my x32 big time. (I think I convinced the owner to trade in the SL for one). But the performance of the new XiControl is the same if not better then the presonus app, in terms of lag. And I had no problem. So really the "lag" issue I mentioned really won't be a problem. The reality is the last app may have been a wee bit faster because of the lack of controls written to the software, but as it is now will work just peachy for me.

And while I'm here I will mention that for me personally, using the iPad app for the SL is the only way to use that board correctly. If I had to rely solely on the board itself I'd shoot myself in the face. Call me spoiled from working on an X32. (presonus please don't hate me, your product is cool. But again I am now spoiled silly thanks to behringer)

Mmmmmm that sounds like a plan, I haven't had time to play around a bit but I will see how that can work.
Our band is taking a break 'till next year but by then I would like to implement a few surprizes when we start working again.
We are such a small group that I am the sound engineer and drummer at the same time, that's why I want to automate a lot of these things to make it easier for myself.
I'm also trying to get some kind of feature where I can trigger my Addictive Drums kit from the X32 sothat when I select a new scene that the X32 will also change my drum kits automatically
Thanx

My kids had their school concert last night - I was asked to help with the lighting, so I turned up at 1pm to rehearsal to find one of the teachers battling with his old sound desk. I grabbed the X32 from the car (brought it *just* in case), and had it all set up, patched in, and inputs grouped in 15 minutes... then I handed him my iPad and said "here, label your inputs." Totally BLEW HIS MIND. He was running around showing all the other teachers that he could adjust the levels from anywhere in the room, they couldn't believe it...

They were really impressed that we were getting about twice the normal volume from the choir mics on stage, without any feedback issues that they usually have (well, *most* school concerts have that problem, right?)... such an easy desk to set up and get a good sound from... and this was only the second live show that I've used it on!

Re: Sub zero tempratuer performance ?

I just done a 10hr outdoor xmas event, average temprature 2 degrees celsius. The X32 performed great at that temprature.
Anyone used it below zero degrees, with any issues ?

The real challenge with this comes down to what exactly the drummer is playing. What if the drummer is playing double-dotted rhythms? Or plays on 1 & 4?

Assume your drummer agreed to only play on the downbeat, but then accidentally plays a double stroke. Then the effect is going to appear to suddenly almost disappear for that measure since the delay or chorus is going to be so short.

If you want to implement something now, you probably need to use an external beat counter and send the delay time parameter to the X32 via OSC. I don't think there is a way of having an external footswitch.
The change of the drumset is easy though, you program the scene to send a Midi program change, and basically plug it straight in. Each scene can contain a single midi message.

I haven't tried it, but Behringer clearly indicates that a footswitch can be used. On page 18 of the manual they suggest using their FCB1010 foot controller.

ran another show just bought an ipad mini the day before setup ixcontrol and ran monitors 6mix through it while mixing on the x32 from foh. WOW WORKED PERFECT. didnt seem laggy while playing with the sliders. boards db meter still seems like it runs high ive never had a board want to clip like this one. love this setup though . this isnt near as high as it ran this was vocal only .just talking to crowd

Yes, connecting the stuff is not the problem, the challenge is finding the midi message that will control the tap, if it exists. It might be totally doable,

Re: X32 Discussion

what do you mean by gain structure i guess im confused . i run it like my allen and heath . with no problems . i try not to cut much on eq and not over compress.

Thanx Per and Steve
You guys have given me quite a few ideas here, I'm gonna play around with that and see what works best.
I've never used OSC before but I'm sure that it will give me more options than MIDI
I can't wait to actually get it going

Thanx Again
