Favorite Stage Monitor

Re: Favorite Stage Monitor

EAW Vrm 12's because they work well for the type of stuff I do (acoustic folk, country) get great comments from anyone who has used them, don't need heaps of power to get them loud enough, are really stable with the mic's I use and they are reasonably small.

d&b M4.

Followed by the d&b M4.

In my experience, it has made the widest variety of musicians happy and the backs of the people who have to tech them happy.

Assuming I never have to touch or lift them, then I'd say the M2 is my all time favorite. Sounds great, tons of power and low-end extension.

But. They are massive and very heavy, so once you take that into consideration, the M4 wins every time. Its significantly smaller and lighter, and still has 80-90% of the power and extension of the M2.

The M6 isn't half bad either!

Re: Favorite Stage Monitor

Okay, What is everyone's all time favorite stage monitor. Please tell me why. And go...

I’m paying … so it’s Turbosound’s TMW 115 & 112 – similar performance to the M4 & M6. The B&C coaxial driver probably has something to do with that and they cost a fraction of the price of the d&b M4 / D12.
The coaxial design is good because the frequency response does not change much when you are off axis. I also think for most applications a wedge should have a reasonably tight pattern 40 x 60 or similar, 90 x 90 is a bit wide. A tight pattern enables you to localise its SPL and prevent spill into the other performer’s space and their mics.

Here is few links that maybe of interest.

Re: Favorite Stage Monitor

"Dainty"? What do you mean by that? Sonically or physically?

I'm still darned impressed with mine and Curtis List's handiwork. I've had these in front of rock and blues bands(Billy Branch and the SOBS, Barleyjuice, The Micky Finns), as well as lots of acoustic acts. Just provided sound for Leo Moran and Anthony Thistlwwaite of the Saw Doctors last night, and they were quite happy with the stage sound(soundcheck took all of 10 minutes I think).

The 12" BMS neo coaxial driver has proven itself in a great alignment and great crossover designed by Curtis. I'd easily consider building 15" versions for rock duty if I did that all the time. Definitely compact, and 42lbs., built from 18mm Baltic Birch and coated in Line-X.

Best regards,

John
