Re: Routing selected channels (only) to the firewire card

Hi again,

I want to use the auxillary inputs for the preamp (and I have another couple connected to Aux 3.6.5. & 6), so I routed the card inputs to 'Aux 1to 6/Mon' ..and I can see the signal in cubase now.... So... It is _sort of_ working... BUT! I see the input of Aux 1 and 2 in cubase, but also see the main L/R output (mon?) mixed with it... I'v had a pretty good look and have been unable to see why.

I guess the question now it whether it is possible to stop the LR soignal from being included in the Aux 1 & 2 signal from the firewire card?

Thanks
Pauly

Hi Pauly,
Although I love the sound of the MIDAS preamps on the X32, I completely understand the desire to use outboard preamps to expand your palette (especially if you already have some nice pres in your collection!) If you want to use a few mic preamps without using a whole block of 8 channels, I would use the "Out 1-8" or "Out 9-16" setting for the X32 card outputs rather than the "Aux 1-6 / Mon" setting. From here, you can go to the analog out page of the ROUTING menu and individually assign whatever direct out signals you want to the outputs. For example, Outs 1-2 could be "Dir Out Aux 1" and "Dir Out Aux 2" while Outs 3-8 could be direct outs from any X32 preamps. You will also notice by doing it this way you will also have the ability to choose a tap point (Pre/Post Fader, Pre/Post EQ). Hope it helps!

Re: iPad apps - XiControl

So now I have prepared my upcoming show.
Wouldn't it be nice if I could output a excel spreadsheet / pdf etc. from xcontrol, how to patch everything.
So channel number, name, fysical input / output.
Print it out and give it out.
Shouldn't be that difficult I think.

You inspired me. I'm going to make an online tool: XControl scene file to PDF conventer.

I'll inform you about progress.

loading scenes

Again anyone have an idea why scenes I've used in the past don't load (they are already in the board). The dca switch but my.channels do not .

Problems with brand new X32 out of box.

Hi,

I'm having a brand new X32, but I have few problems:

- High extra noise on channels 16 & 32.
- Fader number 2 is occasionally much slower than others and seems to have some 'startup' problems. After one/two days of unusage fader nbr 2 hardly has enough power to move at first movement.
- Some buttons are 'sticky'. Example master mute is 'very' sticky. Master block seems to also be little lose as you can see scripple strip 'wobble' if you press mute with some force.
- Occasional cracks and pops when playing something thru USB from OSX 10.8

... maybe I should contact support right away and ask for replacement of desk, not service. Firmware which was at at desk when it arrived was 1.02. So it's from early days of production?

I feel that QC is badly failed on this desk.

xcontrol and touch screen - loving it!

Been playing with the xcontrol and windows 8 touch - loving it! really quick to navigate through menus and tweak settings -even though I have a very small screen - as said earlier only draw back is lack of pinch and zoom

The result of my work you can find here: XControl channel list generator

I did only input list generator. I'm going to add auxes to input list and make an output list. But I'll do it tomorrow. Next step will be adding PDF generator.

Hope it helps :)

Hi Jere,

Sorry for your troubles.

We have seen these issues occasionally caused by abuse and mishandling in shipping leading to internal issues.

I am sending you a PM with my contact info to help out in anyway, as well as passing this on to our Service people.

The list I see is very good, also the notes will be very helpfull. But to get this on paper, my polish is not that good...
But I would like it even better to have an offline generator. Maybe also some way to send it to smartphones.

Old scenes are different from newer scenes, so if you have made a firmware upgrade or two since the scenes were last used they will not load, I checked some of my old.
There was something written about this when one of the upgrades happened, and what to do to keep the scenes and files compatible.

Re: Routing selected channels (only) to the firewire card

Hi john
thanks for that - it works a treat though I must admit its a little confusing to follow the signal through that path when I just wanted to use an aux as a card input.
having said that - now I can get back to work so thanks! ;-)

Re: Routing selected channels (only) to the firewire card

Hi again per
i just want the signal path to be clean as possible up to the converters. I know the preamps in the desk are ok, however there's no need for a preamp after a preamp is there ;-)
I've done what John suggested and routed 8 outputs to the card, and then the auxiliary to a Chanel and then send the Chanel to that output. True it's a convoluted path, but all that happens after the converters so I'm hoping for zero degradation (unless I degrade it myself hahah)

thanks again
pauly

Why don't you want to use the channel inputs? Do you hear a difference between the aux inputs and the channel inputs? Trying to avoid the Midas sound ;)~;-)~ ?

Yes of course, completely forgot, you can also use the P16 outs the same way.

But, now for the sound of the preamps: Is there a difference between the sound of the line input stage of the aux and the preamps at low gain setting? How is gain controlled in the preamp? Is it a variable gain preamp or a fixed gain preamp with attenuation? Is the line input stage indeed a direct input to the AD-converter?

Definitely get that and would never do it on the old desks where there is a direct/line input, but since I can't hear a difference, I don't worry about it. Maybe once I get the studio finished and my ears miraculously rejuvenate :)~:)~

So has anyone been brave enough to crack the case and peak inside? Obviously, there's the whole warranty issue, but looking inside would be one of the best ways to find these things out.

XiControl gradually slowing almost to a hault.

Had an interesting thing happen during the end of soundcheck for tonights show. I noticed my ipad 2 running XiControl 2.0 and latest firmware on the console, started gradually acting more and more sluggish. I figured at first the wireless was getting blocked by some walls, but moving the router more in the clear did not help. When I started, it was as peppy as normal. It eventually got so bad, the meters and faders would only update every 5 seconds or so.

After a quick reboot of the IPad, everything worked GREAT for the rest of the gig... lesson learned.

I was running the presonus app last week on a show, and maybe it left some stuff behind in memory? Who knows, most likely my kid had it plugged up with games or something.

The p16-m's work great! Used 'em tonight, and one of my pickiest clients said they sounded better than the roland m-48's he uses all the time at the church he works at. He did say that it might have been the beta58 he had on his vocal though... I'd like to do a more accurate comparison between them sometime.
