X32 Discussion

re: X32 Discussion

I wonder where these were going ? (I've been told by studiospares they now do not expect stock to arrive until sometime in august!) - the van looks a bit ropey!:D~:-D~

Looks like a shipping container. This could take a while. Loaded in container, cargo ship to LA. sit at docks until unloading. Sit and wait for customs. Then loaded on truck or train headed to Behringer USA. then to stores. Sometimes I see the cargo ships sitting off shores for days waiting in line for offloading. The fall months are crazy with the Christmas stock.

There is no 'Behringer USA'. They have a network of a few large distributors that directly import containers and distribute the product by region.

For the majority of us, migrating from analogue stuff, the wait for the stageboxes only means we have to roll out the old multicable a few more times before it's retired..
and we wouldn't want to unwrap all our presents at the same time, would we??
It will be a shame if you have to go with another mixer because of the stageboxes, personally I would rather have it like this than Behringer deciding to only start shipping when the complete lineup is ready.

I am not saying we wont go with this system, just saying that it changes things. We do not have an analog snake and thus the digital snake feature was one we needed more than the mixer itself. I know it is only a couple months delay but that is significant. We were looking at installing as soon as possible and that will delay things. Not saying it isn't workable, just frustrating. :)

Similar situation. Install due to start and don't want to buy/install a copper snake for both cost and labor reasons.

re: X32 Discussion

The first X32 mixing consoles will reach the stores on or before July 27[SUP]th[/SUP]. However we are heavily backordered and while we are currently shipping several thousand consoles, there won’t be enough to meet all demand. We are trying our best to ramp up production but frankly the immense demand has exceeded all our expectations.

It may be too late now to get in on the first shipment anyway - I did pre-order one yesterday (thought the punt worthwhile and banking on the quality control especially for initial shipments being pretty high) but it was the last one the store had available for their first assigned shipment - and if they don't get all they expect I will be the first to suffer! - though it may vary from region to region (looking at Thomann they have also sold out on pre-orders - next delivery date not known ). In the UK the SOS review comes out next week and by all accounts this is fairly praiseworthy and will therefore undoubtedly push up demand over here.

Different needs for different users, to me the stagebox is of no great value, as it will only replace a multi that I have anyway and thus the stagebox will be a rather expensive way of saving a few minutes setup time. I will probably get one or two, but the real value of such a thing will only be realized when Behringer brings out a smaller mixer with fewer preamps but with the processing power to handle the extra channels a couple of S-16 would provide (maybe the X16 is that mixer???)

How do you figure that the S16 stagebox system will be an expensive way to save a few minutes of time?

Have you priced out a 200 foot 32 channel copper snake lately? It will be dramatically more money than a pair of S16 stageboxes plus a cat5 cable.

In fact, I bet you could sell your existing snake, buy a pair of S16s, and have enough money left for a few chilled glasses of beer!:D~:-D~

I have to agree with this. Also the fact that the product is working (according to Christian) so why wait? Shrug its just an inconvenience not a deal breaker.

re: X32 Discussion

The S-16 is an awesome piece of gear. Lightweight yet still rugged enough and easy to operate. Plugin the cable and off you go. I'm an old fart and I will be happy, to ditch the old copper monster. In addition, no interferences, no signal damping like with an analoge snake. I hope they will be available somewhere in september...

Is this a trick to drive up the post/view count even more?

C. It's going to take a lot more than a couple threads on a forum to undo 15+ years of bad history for me, not to mention enduring the abuse of upturned noses from guest engineers. My main interest is the pressue it will put on other vendors. Competition is a good thing for the consumer.

re: X32 Discussion

Getting at least one, possibly two, and if that goes well, I have lots of places where additional X32's, S16's, and Personal monitor systems will be destined for. At that price point it just seems a no brainer to me. Giving Uli the benefit of the doubt on reliability since these are made alongside the Midas Pro desks, but even if they aren't as reliable as say a Yamaha desk, I could own two or three of these for the cost of an LS9 or similar desk, and this has a much better feature set. I have spent more money on a single piece of rack gear before than the entire desk costs.

I think the X32 has potential to apply pressure to console vendors in at least the same way that Mackie did years ago when they started making consoles. Look at how many of the SR consoles were sold... crazy numbers. I think 2/3 of the churches I've done work in have one that is due for replacement.....

Interesting times ahead. I doubt that Uli's competitors are sitting idly by given that they've known about the X32 for a long time now.

re: X32 Discussion

Christian,
Does the MIDI I/O on the console pass through to the recording card, or is it just for desk control? ie, when using with a DAW, can I hook up Midi keyboards or drum modules to the X32 and it will route them to the DAW as any standard audio interface would do, or is a separate MIDI interface required for that scenario?
