X32 Discussion

re: X32 Discussion

Are the inputs on the x32 and s16 the same?

are the gain steps in 0.1db or 1db or 5db or something else?

What is the max gain? Is the gain clean at the end of the range or does it get uselessly noisy at the upper range?

Is there a switchable pad? Are they "universal inputs"? What is the max level they can take before clipping? Could they take a hot dj mixer or laptop output without clipping?

Is anyone going to make a proper case for it? One with decent dogbox and wheels and nosecone?

re: X32 Discussion

Any Mac-Head around?

Just hooked up the MacBook Pro over Firewire to the X32. We recorded 32 Tracks, played four tracks back into the desk and put some plugins on some X32 channels with MainStage - all simultaniously, rock solid an with 64 Samples! Very impressive!!

Next task, was to set up the Xremote editor software wireless with a router connected to the X32 ethernet port. We used the D-Link DIR-815 (btw. also recommended by Allen&Heath for the iLive) router and run the Xremote under paralles with the MacBook wireless. Works like a charm!

Finally we tried to hook up my netbook and run two instances of Xremote simultaniously. The MacBook was still wireless connected, my Netbook was connected with a LAN cable to the router. Works fine!

re: X32 Discussion

The App is available from the Apple app store, you have to have an IPAD to run it- this is not the offline editor, though I look forward to that when it comes out in the next weeks. Sorry for any confusion on that.

I am in Chicago and loaded it on my IPAD this morning no issues BTW- I can send photos later but they are what you see on the link above-

Shrug, I don't know hehe. Honestly tho I would rather have the manual at this point....

In a nutshell:
Same preamps on X32 and S16, gain in 0,5 dB steps. Gain range -12-+60dB, no PAD...even neve preamps become noisy with +60dB amplification. There are six Aux inputs (RCA & TRS).
Audio measurements are in the review I wrote (roll back some pages, there is a link to a translated version).
Concerning the case....if you go with the S-16, why a doghouse? For the single CAT5 cable;-)

I spent 18 months working on an 88rs and two racks of 1081r mic amps, I'm sure I know the capabilities ;)

If you need to ask why a dogbox then I won't be able to explain! :)

re: X32 Discussion

Do they give you a lamp?

is the lamp dimmable?

is the display and are the rest of the LEDs dimmable?

Are the headphone and monitor and talkback controls normal analogue pots? Can you choose an alternate source for talkback?

Where are the headphone outputs?

Any plans for OSC (!) digico have said they will.

Oh, and what's the deal with hardware inserts?

No room for a dog in the standard bundeled Thomann case, but you'll find lots of cases that fits and have a doghouse. Look for a doghouse case for Yamaha LS9-32 or other mixer of similar size.

Isn't the X32 higher than an LS9? I had some cases around but none was high enough inside.

re: X32 Discussion

Christian, when using several remotes, can you limit what each remote is allowed to do?
Like in SAC where you can specify the monitor remote to only have contol of the monitor layers?

Hi James,

besides the lamp, all of you questions have been covered in this thread before. So here the nutshell version:)
Do they give you a lamp?
No
is the lamp dimmable?
Yes
is the display and are the rest of the LEDs dimmable?
Yes
Are the headphone and monitor and talkback controls normal analogue pots? Can you choose an alternate source for talkback?
2 x Yes
Where are the headphone outputs?
caps left&right
Any plans for OSC (!) digico have said they will.
complete free OSC dokumentation will comes as free download on Behringer.com
Oh, and what's the deal with hardware inserts?
Well, there aren't any, and I doubt that there ever will be:)

Not in the specific beta version and I doubt, that it is on the "to do" list. I can asked about it.

!

As in?

This is very limiting!

I was sure mr behringer mentioned something about delay compensation and that everything was compensated for unless you used hardware inserts?

There aren't any hardware inserts. This is a console with a 2.500,- EURO price tag, even Behringer can't implement anything. What are you missing, that you can't compensate with a digital plugin? The X32 will soon have 32 digital insert points, allowing you to use any digital plug that you like. You could use one or more mixbus outputs as hardware inserts, but this would be quite clumsy in my eyes.

Sorry, I don't get you here. I'm not a native speaker so I don't know, what you mean by this.
I was told, that Behringer will give access to everybody to the X32-OSC setup up. So you could you your iPhone or Android smart phone and remote control the X32 with f.e. TouchOSC.
Christian

EDIT: Some helpful soul gave me a hint. You can use the six Aux in/outs as insert points. Just hook up your analog gear to these Aux TRS connectors and you can select/activate them in your channel "config" insert menue. The only donwside is the slight amount of latency (1 or 2ms in general) that comes along with that. Otherwise, this is a neat workaround in my eyes:)

re: X32 Discussion

On each S16, how does one select which channels it will be i.e. the first one will need to be 1-16, the next one will need to be 17 - 32 etc. Presumably a configuration option in its menu? What happens if you plug in an S16 set to the same channels as one that's already connected? Will it tell you there's a conflict? Just ignore it?

Thanks!
