X32 Discussion

re: X32 Discussion

As a SAC user, I'm used to that:)
Todays gig went very well. The S-16 has a new design. It now shares the coulor of the X32 and it is not just plain black anymore. I like it:)

Someone was asking earlier about the dimension, maybe you can measure it? Depth that is.

re: X32 Discussion

Hello

I managed to download XiControl from AppStore the same way as everything else. Now it is no more there.

Al it does - hopefully more later - is that there are ten sets of 8 faders and mute buttons.
1-8 9-16 17-24 -25-32 Aux 1-8 FX 1L-4R Bus 1-8 Bus 9-16 Mix-Main DCA 1-8

Mix-Main contains Matrix 1-6 , MAin C and Main LR

No access to EQ or other parameters.

Perhaps this is some early version, that got out by mistake or as teaser.

I ordered my X32 on June 18 from Thomann - I telephoned them last week and they say they´re expecting the first set to arrive there sometimes around August 10th - their webpage says next arrival is september 20 - hopefully it means for desks ordered now..........

Yesterday I was using a Digico - and though it sounded good, i felt it was a bit cumbersome to use plus it did not have any built-in revebs - the owner said it costed some 14K + tax - so I really wish my X32 would speed up....... come to daddy.......

re: X32 Discussion

On Monday I will spend a week in the Netherlands.

Where in the Netherlands will you be? I'd like to see the X32 myself. I read a lot about it and following this thread every day. I'm planning to buy this desk with the our band. Last year we bought some in ears. On an analoge desk there are (most of the times) not enough aux-sends for 6 or more monitor-groups. So i'm verry interested in the X32.

Hi Sietse,
I will be in Westkapelle/Zeeland and I'm doing a strange thing that is called "Holiday":)
My wife told me, that would be a good thing to do. So my X32 stays at home. But I'm living very close to the dutch boarder (just 20 km to Venlo). I will be back on the 13th of August, if you like to come over for a "meet and greet" here in Viersen (near Mönchengladbach/Krefeld).

He Christian,

I'm living in the Northern part of the Netherlands. Zeeland and Venlo is a drive for more than three hours. Enjoy your holliday. Maybe I'll visit you some day. If you're in the northwest of Germany I'll come and see/hear. Meanwhile I'll follow you and your experiences here on the forum.

What stand are you using with the mixer?

Do you think it's possible to lift with one man the mixer and case and stand and put it in a VW Golf?

Hi James,

this is the stand-->
Millenium MX-1000 - Thomann UK Cyberstore

I transport and setup the desk all by myself. I have no problems to lift it on the stand. I use a fold-up dolly ( this one--> Mannesmann M 099-T Alu-Sackkarre bis 90 kg: Amazon.de: Baumarkt ) for longer ways, that's all.

I use a Digico SD8 professionally, and to be fair to Digico, it's not even in the same category as Behringer. You're not going to find the X32 on riders any time soon. The Digico does indeed have reverbs, and multi-band compression, dynamic EQ, lots of other FX. You can put any type of channel anywhere on the desk, extremely flexible internal and external routing options. Sounds great at 96k with no hit to channel count. It's just a fantastic board, the best sounding of any of the larger desks IMHO. Don't get me wrong the X32 looks very promising, ordered mine June 6th - but don't be confused about what you're getting. It won't compete with an Avid, Digico, larger Yamaha desks, etc.

For the money though, it certainly can compete with an LS9, 01v, any of the smaller desks - even costing 3,4,5x as much!

Hello

Yes - I realize the facts - and it also happens, that I have a Studer 980 console here in my living room and 169 - 10/2 , 961 8/4 plus 962 14/4 and reVox 279 among my Soundcraft Spirit 324 & 328 desks - so I have no false illusions about desks.

Here we have saying : If you want to have cheap and good , you usually have to get both.......

This X32 sems to have wery good ods to have a lot of both...

So I am trying to say, that I am really exited about the practicality of X32 for my usual pa-gigs - I do realize, some people want more

p.s - the Digico last friday...
It was SD9 - yes - it sems to have effects - the owner was using external effects rack - I had not seen the desk before, so I did not know - so I was assuming - sorry.

re: X32 Discussion

Sadly for Yamaha you're probably right..I think it can compete with the M7, at a fraction of the cost.

Since the primary attraction of the M7 is the 48 control channels on one layer, how does the X32 compete with that feature? There are lots of consoles that compete with the M7 and are cheaper, but none have 48+4 faders. A more reasonable comparison would be with other multi layer consoles like LS9, iLive, Pro 02, even SC48. The M7 is a big target because if its market penetration, but its defining feature isn't available on any other medium priced consoles.

The M7 is alone in its high fader count. While there is a small niche that finds this extremely attractive, I would largely interpret the lack of other high fader count consoles as the market speaking its mind: for the most part people don't want to carry, maintain, or make room for all those faders; either they don't have someone to help them set up, or they're trying to sell more seats. Even Yamaha's new CL series desks don't have high fader counts. If more faders are really the sticking point, one can pick something besides the M7 and augment it with a control surface.

Why am I picking on Yamaha? In one word, preamps. I would consider the defining feature of the M7 to be its sonic "characteristics." I'm not saying that they can't be overcome, but it's what I think of when I think of that console.

Besides, you're comparing apples to oranges. What reasonable comparison can be made between a 32 and 48 channel desk when 48 channels are required? I specifically called out the M7CL-32.
