X32 Discussion

re: X32 Discussion

I'm using something similar, a DCX2496.

AES/EBU in for left/right. Analog in (C) for the bus-fed sub.

(That additional A/D and D/A conversion for the sub is why I'd like to roll everything into the X32.)

Not trying to question your ability just trying to understand why this would matter. Can you really hear any negative affects with having the sub go through the extra conversion? I know it may not be ideal but with such a limited passband, will it really matter?

I too am running AES/EBU into my EV DC One, but I am not running Aux fed subs.

I question my abilities all the time. lol. :)~:)~

Probably not.

The subs are delayed, so the latency becomes part of the delay value.

There probably are audible artifacts. But, in a live setting, they're probably not heard.

(There are a lot of times I bring something up in the headphones, and am surprised. For example, the fact our drummer sings softly, and the overheads pick that up. Not really surprised at that. But, until I started multi-track recording recently, I never knew that. Just too much ambient noise to hear that in the headphones. Or in the mains, for that matter.)

Has anyone used the X32 via FiWi or USB with Sonar? If so, how did they get along?

I have Sonar 8.5.3 running on a Gateway Laptop with Windows xp sp3 Duo core 2100 w/ 1g ram and it handles 25 tracks no problem usb or fiwi. It was showing about 8% on the processor and 40% on the hard drive. That was recording from usb with no plug ins. At 32 tracks I would want to record to an external drive.

So far both drivers seem real stable

I haven't tried 32 track recording

I'll be using Sonar X2 in a studio setting running on a custom built i7 DAW with solid state drives in raid 0. Unfortunately, my X32 is on it's way to the Behringer hospital in Las Vegas. When I get it back, I'll post the results.

Hmmm, it is the stability and latency I am most interested in. I would hope an I5 2500K with 16 GB of ram should not be the problem. I know Sonar did not like the Mackie Oynx nor the Line6 UX2. Lots of pops, clicks and buffer issues. I do have a dedicated internal SATA data drive so 30+ tracks with my old MOTU/02R setup never taxed the drive over 25%.

I am putting together a portable "universal" drive rack for any systems I will use with the X32 or other small analog consoles DEQ 2496-Waves Maxxbass- Aphex Compellor- Aphex Dominator- DCX 2496. I can use/bypass what I need for each show easily.

Re: Reaper & USB over XUF card

Thanks for the suggestion. I am staying away from Firewire. I use it regularly for capturing video so I know about the issues with it.

As long as you have a quality chipset and driver, there are no issues with Firewire. Funny how Mac's never have issues with firewire ;)~;-)~

I think USB should be quicker and I have laptops with USB available, so that's my plan.

USB isn't quicker. It's got higher latency and CPU overhead. There's a reason more video happens over Firewire. You got a card for USB - why not get a good high quality FireWire card instead? If you look on audio boards where people use firewire for DAW, there are lists of good cards with good chipsets out there - you don't have to flounder blindly.

But it sounds like it's a configuration issue anyway, not a USB/Firewire issue...

But for the record, I fixed the problem. I'm not sure how, but I did. I basically went through all the Reaper settings in Device and I unticked (or ticked) each option and then ticked (or unticked) them again.

Aha, it was a config issue, and it sounds like it may have happened with FW just as well as USB. Figures!

However, if you get dropouts or "glitches" in your audio, be aware that FireWire - once you get a stable setup - will ALWAYS outperform USB and might give you much better results on the same hardware.

re: X32 Discussion

For all the people that are still trying to decide which daw to record with. On a mac i have found that using Presonus Capture has worked the best for me! I havent tried it on a pc but on a mac both the studiolive and the x32 are core audio so in capture it shows the 32 channels in (or however you have the board set up). If you need a no frills, easy recording option that needs a bare bones computer this is it!
Im running capture on a black plastic macbook 2.4 ghz with 2gb ram recording to an internal 5400rpm drive with no problems at all.
Just figured i'd put that out there.

re: X32 Discussion

FINALLY.... but not without some local grief... I put these same pics on my facebook, some local techs are already giving me some heat for now owing the "behinrger boat anchor" etc... It pisses me off to no end, people who use/play with other peoples gear, without the burden of ownership, and stand there like they have some right to bash. Anyways I hope Behringer HAS changed the game and I can proudly say I didn't make a mistake (twice). I have yet to remind them that their beloved purple bethmoths are now owned by Behringer...
(and boy am I glad I didn't sell off my PC tablet.... full functionality, size of an ipad)
anyone interested in 32 tracks of fostex recorders :)

We got our X32 yesterday, I can't quite say I care what any of the local guys are saying but a couple SL users and one LS9 user have already admitted a hint of jealousy. I can't wait to put this thing into service, I've got one of my regular band's lined up to do a few rehearsals with the board in the next few weeks.

Has anybody looked into cases for these yet?

I tried capture on a PC and it wouldn't start because I didn't have a SL console hook up. Is there a work around? I ended up installing version 1 of Studio One and it works great.

If only this software was available for non SL desk owners to download and use. Obviously Presonus are providing the software for users of the SL only. Makes Sense. I'm happy tracking into Pro Tools bar for the requirement of having an iLok hanging out of my macbook. I need to find another solution...

On a side note:
Does anyone know if Behringer are likely to release Xcontrol for Mac?

re: X32 Discussion

So...
I'm a owner of one of the X32 from the first serie.
Everything was great, I fell immediatly in love with my console.

But...
One point pissed me off...

I had a digital noise in channel 16 at full volume.

I wrote a pm to Joe Sanborn from Behringer.
He answered quickly to me and I received a procedure to fix my problem.
I've done what was said step by step.

And.......

Everything is now perfect :)

A big up to Joe and to Behringer :thumbup::thumbup:

Do we care of what others think of X32 ?? !!

Hi everybody

As happy owner of X32 since very beginning I just have to say:

-If ANYBODY tries to go with this "Sooo - you´ve got a Behringer..." bull.... i simply reply : "Yes - and it is SO much easier to "schlepp" around than my Studer 980 plus it has all the goodies built in and then some!"

Honestly - I never even considered of taking Studer 980 to live gig simply because of its size and wheight...

So far evrybody, who has actually seen my desk and heard it or my arguments after my gigs, are convinced that it might well be worth concideration for them, too...!

And most important - WE owners DO KNOW quite well what gem we have !

re: X32 Discussion

Our X32 arrived today but I won't have time to install it until tomorrow. I was trying to configure the console before hand with the offline editor but can't seem to find a save function that would allow me to transfer to the console once I install it. Can anyone help me out with this?
