X32 Discussion

re: X32 Discussion

Once again thank all of you for all the feedback we’re getting from you. Allow me to address some of the recent issues raised here.

BEHRINGER Forum
Some of you have rightfully commented that they do not see much activity and feedback on our BEHRINGER forum. This is correct and we apologize for it.
The reason is that the current platform is not working properly and we are in the process of selecting and implementing new software. We are planning a forum re-launch by end of this month.
On the other hand it is exciting to see how soundforums.net has now become the single biggest forum and meeting point for X32 users. With over 200,000 viewers it has also become a great resource for anyone who is interested in the product and the associated customer experience.

Bugs and User Preferences
There is often a misconception of “Bugs” and User Preferences.

“Bugs” are true software defects which need to be addressed and those will always have first priority with us. We classify them as major and minor issues and they will be handled in that particular sequence.

However we often get “bugs” reported which are not defects but stem from misunderstandings how the X32 works and how it was designed. This is understandable as a product of such complexity requires some learning.
I like to take the opportunity to thank all of you for helping other members answering their questions.

Feature requests and workflow changes however are a different topic.

While each of you have different preferences and use the X32 in different applications, it is important to understand that the X32 has been designed mainly as live/studio console and hence it might not meet all of your requirements for theatre or broadcast use etc. Even digital consoles costing US$ 100,000 won't meet all expectations as products are designed for certain purposes and applications.
However be assured we will certainly not ignore those requests but have to set a lower priority for future feature and workflow implementations.

The X32 has now been on the market for a little bit more than 2 months and since then we have already released over six firmware updates many of which have already addressed several bugs but also provided feature enhancements.

Since the X32 is a "living" product, many more firmware updates will follow as well as a major Generation 2 upgrade next year. However we kindly ask you to be patient as even "simple" software changes are extremely complex and need thorough testing.

Once again thank you for all your feedback and patience. Our team is working hard to address any challenges you might encounter and also accommodate as many requests as possible.

It is wonderful to see how much feedback we are receiving and be assured that we are carefully listening to each and every of your comments even if you don't get any immediate feedback from us.

I am also pleased to announce that we will soon introduce other members of the X32 family and expand the range of feature-rich and high-performance digital mixers.

Warm regards

Uli

re: X32 Discussion

Would anyone know theres any plans to open up the x32 to user modding through an api type of thing.
I was thinking at least, if the company can role out new plugins in firmware updates, can users ( at the least, do the same. )

re: X32 Discussion

Hi Rob,
Same here.

Gerhard

I have found another bug or anomaly, and would like to hear if anyone else has this same issue:

On all the Auxes 1-8 on my board, the High Frequency line indicator #4 is invisible. It does not appear like it does on all the other channel/bus screens. I can still sweep the frequency and make EQ adjustments, but the indicator line is gone. (See pics). A minor annoyance, but still a flaw.

re: X32 Discussion

Thanks to reports from some forum members we have been made aware of a noise issue affecting certain X32 consoles. The issue is generally reported as increased noise on channels 16 and 32.

Since the first report of this issue we have obtained one of the affected consoles and identified both the source of the noise and the relatively simple fix. During production a limited number of consoles were wired with an internal cable improperly routed too close to the mic preamp boards, resulting in the inducted noise from the control cables.
Properly rerouting the short cable solves the issue permanently.

We will soon post a service advisory how to address the issue and will make this right.

Uli

Hi,
Is there a procedure for this? I am god knows how far from a service center (souther Australia) - Just got my X32 and it's noisy (digital noise from monitor & headphone outputs)
I've alkso been unable to see the ASIO inputs/outputs on my PC - The control app says the X32 is connected, but doesn't display ins/outs. Any tips are appreciated thanks.

My first problem with the routing.
Is here a simple way to feed a mono center direct from L/R-sum post fader with eq/comp/delay via output 13/14 ?

re: X32 Discussion

Hi Flo - There's no way I can tell right now - Another problem I have is that the firewire driver wont work - I cannot get any inputs or outputs to show in the firewire control panel. The card is detected, but strangely it says the sample rate is 44.1 (when the console is set to 48)... I've had a rough night with this new desk. Hopefully someone can also advise on this? Thanks.

re: X32 Discussion

On the Routing tab, under Aux 1-4 select "Card 1-4". Try that.

does your FiWi interface have a TI chipset? Often, FiWi audio devices are particular about the chipset of the host interface..... Have you tried with USB yet?

I don't have my X32 here, but shoudn't the sync box be checked? Are you sure, that you selected FiWi instead of USB and the right sync in the X32 settings?

re: X32 Discussion

Hi Christian,
Yes I feel it should be checked - But clicking on it does nothing. I certainly did select the Firewire (and not the USB) - would be great if the solution was that simple eh.
Thanks for the reply though

re: X32 Discussion

I'm trying to get Sonar 8 Producer to use my X32. I've got Sonar setup with a 'Mackie Control' surface on the X32 MIDI ports, but the X32 shows 'mute' on the leds when I press 'remote'.

I've tried with both USB & FireWire. Audio is ok, it just the control surface that isn't working.

Any ideas?

Try and verify the following:

Press the SETUP button to the right of the LCD
Use the PAGE SELECT BUTTONS to page to the "remote" tab
Verify the "Protocol" is set, as well as the "interface" - on "interface", if you're using your FiWi or USB cable to "carry" the MIDI traffic, you'll need to select "Card MIDI". Bear in mind, I've had some challenges with the MIDI-over-USB functionality on the X32, but the FiWi implementation appears to work fine. Otherwise, you can use the physical 5-pin DIN MIDI ports on the back of the X32, and connect it to an existing MIDI device - just remember to set the "Interface" (see above) to "MIDI I/O"

I hope this is useful.

Hi Pauly,
you can't imho check it by yourself, it will be automatically checked, when the sync is right I guess. Have you checked, if the Sync is set to "local" in your setup settings of your X32 and if the red led on the fiwi out of your card is on? It seems to me like a sync problem, that would explain the samplerate mismatch as well...

re: X32 Discussion

Please explain what you found that was being done wrong (if possible) so we can learn. What’s the saying about learning from other peoples mistakes.

When I upgraded to firmware 1.09, the x32 automatically muted all my delays and reverbs plus it reset the Graphic EQ on my master output. It was a pain yesterday having to re-EQ the system out. Unfortunately, I didn't save my EQ settings because I had not learned that yet. Now I know.

re: X32 Discussion

Under setup/Global what is the lock console for and how to unlock when you lock?

Console lock should be used, when you are heading to the bar for a drink and don't want to worry about someone else messin around with your X32. I use it a lot, especially during breaks and set pauses. To unlock the console push the HOME button for at least five seconds.

Great! I was more worried of how to unlock it as I found nothing regarding this in the manual. Locked it a couple time and had to turn it off and back on to unlock! :) I would also suggest that pressing the encoders in a customized sequence to unlock might be safer, just in case someone sees the 5 sec push on home thing.
