Make sure that under setup/card firewire is selected
under setup/global under synchronization make sure that local is selected.
Verify your firewire cable (try another one)
If you have another Fiwi port try as well. I have 2 ports that don't read mine

If all else fails try that suggestion of Per Søvik

Have you tried removing the card, powering up without the card, power down, reinstall the card and power up. Just in case there is a bad connection or the card hasn't been initialized right???


Don't know if it will make a difference at all, but quite a common thing to do whenever an expansion appears to be faulty, wether on a PC or on a desk.

Hi all,

I've only had my X32 for 2 weeks, and so far only run one concert with it. Pleased to say that everything went smoothly, and there certainly seems to be unanimous agreement from everyone who's used an X32 that the sound quality is superb, and I completely agree - especially for the money! I found that XControl and the XUF interface worked perfectly for me straight away too, but certainly the ability to set-up scenes offline in XControl and then sync them to the console at a later date will be very useful in the latest version.

Anyway, the way I set everything up did lead me to a few pitfalls, so perhaps one of you might have some feedback on possible workarounds. I'll describe the basic scenario:

Inputs: 3 Beta 87s on stage, 8 channels of radio mics, various mics to cover a choir, stereo outputs from 3 separate keyboards, LR from V-drums

Outputs: LR via digital output to DCX2496 feeding mains and sub, monitor for singers on stage, monitor for band, direct outs to PC via XUF card

On the console, I had Vocal, Keyboards, Drums and Choir mixbuses, with all the stage mic inputs and radio mics going to the Vocals bus, etc. The drums didn't really need to go to a bus, but it meant I could have all the main levels on the RHS on the console that way. Ideally, I wanted Reverb, Exciter and a GEQ on the Vocal bus. I could have Reverb and either Exciter or GEQ easily enough - using one as an insert and then the other assigned to the bus itself, but I couldn't think of a way to use all 3. On an 01V96 you can route the output of one FX to the input of a second FX, so you can create a chain to do what I was after. Couldn't find a way to do this on the X32, but I might be missing something! Any ideas?

Because all the EQ and dynamics processing of the keyboards and vocals were done on the buses, I wanted to send a mix of those to the monitors, not just using the dry signals from the input channels. So the only method I could come up with at the time, was creating a Matrix for the band monitor and another for the stage monitor, and then fed the relevant mixbuses to the matrixes in varying levels. It worked fine for that particular concert, but I don't think you can change the mixbus sends to matrix from post/pre fader which was a bit of a pain. I couldn't help thinking that there must be a better way to arrange it!

When you've been using an 01V96 for years, it's amazing how much you appreciate the scribble strips!

First of all I can't figure out why you would want a geq "eaten up" on a vocal group, that you couldn't fix on a 6 band buss paramteric but to each his own...
Couldn't you just insert it on the second cascaded effect return channel?

Hi Shane,

Oh it was totally over the top I know, I just had spare FX slots! It's more a question for the future really, I'm sure there will be times when I want to use several FX in a chain. Ah, can you have an insert on the FX return? I didn't even think to look.

Are there no Aux sends on the FX return channels? The easy way would be to take (for example) the delay FX return and use the REV aux send to route the DDL to the REV.

I haven't get the desk in front of me so I'll check later. Problem is though, it's likely to be the reverb set on the return, because you'll want to be able to quickly adjust the wet and dry mix, and it's unlikely you'll want another FX just on the reverb return.

Which kind of has me wondering why you would cascade effects anyway... Maybe I've been doing it "wrong" all this time but I never felt the need to drive a rev, into a delay, or visa versa... Why wouldn't you effect your vocals (aux 1 rev, aux 2 delay) - dump the effect returns into a group or dca and further eq if you wished.
The only way I'd "insert" an effect on a console is if it was specific to that channel.
But I know, the next comment will be "well I'm running out of auxes cause I'm driving 15 monitors mixes from the foh console"... lol. then my answer to you is, buy a monitor console, it's time....

Warning - thread tangent....

You should try it sometime when you have time to experiment. Running your reverb through a delay (especially a modulated delay) can be quite interesting. It doesn't work for everything though, so I certainly wouldn't set up that way by default.

As an extension to the "We Hear You" motto, it might be nice to have a system in place (a method of polling), to gauge interest in enhancements.

This would simplify the presentation of enhancement requests to the Behringer leadership, development, and marketing teams.

There are some drawbacks, and some obstacles to overcome. However, real-time market research, from the people actually using the product, should be invaluable.

As an aside, I’m not suggesting that every enhancement request should be polled. Something like 96k, that isn’t within the scope of the X32, should never be put up for polling. Only enhancements that have a reasonable opportunity to make it into production, and are within the scope of the X32 feature-set, should be considered.

Hi Pauly,
I have personally used the X32 Firewire on a number of different Macs without a single issue.
On the PC I think you get into may factors not related to the X32.
Version of Windows, is it an add on Firewire card, etc.

I was thinking, maybe, that we could form an unoficcial user group on x32user.net where those who register an X32 chassis number has special privileges. That is, if Behringer doesn't do something similar.
I agree with the polling thing except that 96KHz is within the capabilities of the X32 ;)~;-)~:wink:, and the demand should maybe be explored.

If the reverb is reining overall space and the delay is an effect, I often send the delay to the verb to keep the effect in the same overall "space" as the original signal...like adding delay to a vocal in an arena show, the verb of the arena is on the delay as well.

Joe,

The other one is the iPad 'Mtx' screeen bug mentioed here a number of times. That screeen which happens to control the main volume amongst other things is simply not functioning.

You have two concerns that I located:
1 - You do not like that the pages cycle back to the first page when you get to the last page on X32 screens. I will see if this can be a added as a preference. I have to say this might be low on the priority list, as this is how the design team decided to have the pages function.

2 - The firewire routing issue. I will look into this first thing tomorrow and get back to you.

Once again sorry we missed your questions.

I can assure everyone that the X32 development team is reading the BEHRINGER forum and addressing potencial issues as well as possible additions to functionality.

Thanks for your reply regarding the minor bug issue. I did hear from tech support, and this minor issue will be addressed in a future update. Add me to the many happy X32 owners who continue to be impressed by the high level of support and concern Behringer has for its customers.

Hi Don,

On the setup/remote screen I have the following enabled (yellow background):
Remote Button: 'Enable'
Protocol: 'Mackie Ctrl'
Interface: 'Card MIDI'
MIDI In/Out: Midi In/Out, Card MIDI & Enable Midi Scene Recall

On Setup/Card:
Interface: 'FireWire'
Configuration: 32in/32out

Still not working.

I tried the USB connection earlier in the week, but got the same problem.

Could anyone confirm that the x32 works with a Midas digital stage box? (E.G. DL251)

Yes, Uli has confirmed that it works, and I assume that it means that it works with full functionality with the obvious limitation that it is restricted to the samplerates that X32 supports.

Hello,

Long time reader etc. etc..
I bought an x32 solely off the back of this thread which has gone straight into service as the house console for the second room (250 cap) in a popular UK music venue. 2x S16's will be the next purchase. Thank you everyone for such useful information and thank you Behringer for such a great console.

I have one question and some feature requests :)

Question:

- When setting global mix bus post/pre (select mix bus/config) is it correct that this only applies to inputs 1-32 and not aux ins/fx returns? I couldn't think of a reason why you would specifically not want to affect other inputs as well given that you could always adjust them manually should you wish. It felt a bit long-winded to have to set all the aux and fx's manually, even if this was achieved with copy/paste. I'm trying to decide if this is a bug or feature request.


Feature Requests:
(Apologies if these already exist. I've read everything but I also easily forget!)

- Assign keys/send on faders disable sof & return to previous page on second press. This has been requested by every engineer who has looked at the console and is how consoles such as M7 behave. The send on fader shortcut is great but there is currently no quick way out once you're there.

- Assign keys/jump to page additional option to define page layers where applicable. Specifically for dual graphic EQ to assign keys that switch directly to channels A or B. This is useful for maximising FX slots for stage monitoring while also providing quick shortcuts to a particular mix EQ. At the moment you must either remember to check your layer or waste slots.

- FX controls on fader (like GEQ on fader but for all FX). I managed to make this happen once but can't work out how so I assume it was not intentional. However, I thought it was a cool and all my engineers agreed.

- FX mute and/or bypass options from the individual pages. Similarly, choose FX and routing. At the moment you must setup everything from the FX home page but I felt there is some room to provide an alternative route to the same settings directly from the individual FX pages themselves.

- Provide a shortcut to set mix bus and DCA faders to 0dB. Similar to the way you can zero GEQ on faders with the mute key it would be useful to be able to quickly set your mix bus masters at zero.

- Provide a way to select all six bands of mix bus/master EQ from the EQ section. At the moment you must use the soft screen controls to access two of the bands which feels a bit clunky. Perhaps you could toggle controls between a couple of bands using the low/hi band buttons?
