X32 Discussion

re: X32 Discussion

With the newer firmware, that's another way.

Something as simple as setting the scribble strips shouldn’t need to be explained.

For intuitive and to provide other quick access functions I would propose a function where holding the select button presents an alternative soft encoder menu, perhaps even allowing the user to define custom controls here in addition to the assign section.

For example while holding channel select the first encoder could provide access to predefined scribble options and full edit on press.

re: X32 Discussion

There is no concept of holding any buttons or encoders.

Actually, there is the concept of holding buttons... DCA assignment.

That design created a variance in XControl, in comparison to the board.

That also creates an interesting UI problem in XControl:

- Click DCA1. It will start flashing. We are now in the mode where Channels/Buses can be assigned to the DCA.
- Click the Mute Grp button.
- Click the Mute Group 1 button. It will start flashing.
- DCA1 is still flashing. At this point, what are we programming? What do we think we're programming? At this point, it looks like we're programming both the DCA and the Mute Group. However, the Channel indicators don't accurately reflect either.

Obviously, there’s no logical reason a person would take the steps I just did. But, XControl allowed something that it shouldn’t have.

Just as easily as XControl is flashing both the Mute Group 1 button, and the DCA1 button, it could have crashed.

Or, worse, I don’t have XControl attached to an X32 right now. But, what if I did? Who knows what it’s communicating to the X32.

This is not a rant at Behringer at all. It's just a good illustration of the challenges of UI design, and how unpredictable end-users can be.

re: X32 Discussion

I have quite a hiss/ noisefloor on my talkback as well. Please post the remedy. Fortunately that appears to be the only issue with my first desk(which is now installed in my club rig). The second desk comes out of the box monday

One thing John Dinicola and I noticed while he was servicing our X32 was that the level control on the screen for the talk back acts as input gain, where the physical knob 'Talk Level' knob on the desk acts as an output fader. I noticed the same extremely high noise floor on talk back.

I don't have the desk in front of me, but try hitting view in the talkback section, and adjusting the gain or level or whatever its called via that screen. By default it came totally cranked on our X32. We brought it way down, and once we did the talk back level knob wasn't so overly sensitive and the noise floor issue was completely gone.

re: X32 Discussion

Hi All,

Thank you a lot for good information on the forum.
I would like to ask you, because soon I will have 2 pieces of X32.
If 2 consoles X32 are connected via AES50a, can I do routing like following?:

1st. FOH: In the Setup> to choose -> Card ->Interface-> FireWire->32in/32out

2[SUP]nd[/SUP]:
Inputs: Stage -> Monitor X32 to route Local 1-32 ->via AES50a-> FOH mix X32, then mirroring all 32 channels to FiWi card (routing on card will be AES50A1 to AES50A32). Here on the PC, I would like to run VST host program. An then on the FOH X32 in Home Routing to select inputs (Card 1-32) to do the rest of FOH work.

3[SUP]rd[/SUP]:
Outputs:
FOH X32 to route output to AES50a: MainL post Fader to Output1 ; MainR post Fader to Output2 (Out 1-8 are routed to AES50A 1-8 by default)
Monitor X32: Routing->Home-> Assign AUX1-4 to AES50A A1-4 (Output 15 -> Direct out AUX1 pre EQ; Output 16 -> Direct out AUX2 pre EQ)

Then Latency, delay of FOH sound,…? What could be a problem with this configuration? Where do you see a bottleneck?
Thank you for your comments.

re: X32 Discussion

Sad thing was. I was logged in earlier to make sure all was working. So I closed the window that said I was joined. Went about my business and then came back to to enjoy the meeting. (Set aside time in my schedule for this)

re: X32 Discussion

Joe,

Considering the popularity of the webinar (as established by its being full), please consider it a success and repeat it.

Folks, turns out there was a limit of 26 callers on the webinar (I was one of the lucky ones) joe apologises and will no doubt be on here later.

It was really good and they are planning on repeating it for those that couldn't join

gate / ducker positions

Wondering if it would be possible to swap the "slot" positions of the expander and ducker? It would be great (like most other digital consoles) to be able to use the expander, instead of having to use the gate, to reduce any low level noise on any input channel?

The console is real nice though! Love the ability to use simultaneous multiple PC's and iPad's to control it, couple that with the multitrack playback and record - this thing is sweet!

re: X32 Discussion

Now I am trying to setup xcontrol on Bootcamp and can't get the of and console to communicate.

I have actually have had good luck running XControl via Wine on my MacbookPro, and then that way I dont need a whole OS installed just to run one windows program. Not sure what your circumstances are, but just thought I would throw that out there.

re: X32 Discussion

X32 and Auria seems to work nicely together. I have both and have been making some tests. In order for the x32 to work smoothly you have to configure the card for anything else than 32/32. At 32/32 I get a lot of spikes nomatter what latency setting i use. At any other configuration it seems to work perfectly and you get 24 channels input! You need a powered hub though. Im on an ipad 3.
