Re: New videos on youtube X32 vs Presonus SL

Stability? Functionality? At what price

Do you know the number of MacBooks with the widely-reported but unfixed "non-responsive keyboard/mousepad" glitch? Apple has not/will not provide a fix for an acknowledged hardware fault. Their answer? "Yeah, we know about that. Buy a new one with the AppleCare ".

The arrogance is iMazing.

at what price? How about the arrogance in dictating what price is too much.

a small keyboard issues undoes years of industry standard hardware.

the only only thing worse than an apple fanboy is a hater.

there's room for many in the industry, why hate anything? Is your life that empty you have to hate?

Re: P16-M - Cannot read the pot & button labels!

I have an x32, and a bunch of P16-Ms that each musician uses. My studio has 'mood' lighting.. IE; it's bloody dark in there... The P16-Ms have like grey text on a black background and if I was playing a daytime outdoor gig they'd be fine.. Problem is I'm not.... and we can't ready the labels on the p16s... Is there a more legible stick on template available? If not - there should be!
Thanks
Pauly

I'm pretty sure that what you see is what you get. </punny>

Some options:
a) Fab a large-print, high contrast layover label.
b) Supply more front illumination--overhead, book light, music stand light, etc.
c) This one is the awesomest: carve out all the lettering so that you can backlight it! Add ground effects! Use multicolor LED's so that the user can coordinate with their scribble strip color! I'm sure that this option will prove so popular that a cottage industry for P-16 modification will spring up soon on eBay.

Re: New videos on youtube X32 vs Presonus SL

What I dislike is the corporation and its "all for us" get their tendrils into the populace approach.

What the heck does that mean? Did Apple people sneak into your house and smash all your non-Apple gear one night?

It reeks corporate arrogance.

Again, what the heck does this mean? Corporate arrogance compared to whom or what? How does a corporation have "arrogance" anyway (dispite inane supreme court rulings that corporations are people too).

I could care less if "it just works". The inevitable price of putting your eggs in their basket is pretty ugly.

How, by using Apple, am I "putting my eggs in their basket" any more than you are with Microsoft, Android, Linux or whatever technology you are using instead of Apple? Unless you manufacture your own hardware and write your own software your always going to be depending on someone else. Just like you probably do for food, water and quite probably anything else you require. Yet for some reason people get emotional with some companies and start ascribing attributes to them that have no basis in logic or reality. Heck, I used to do it too - until I realized it's silly, counter productive and totally missing the point.

Remember the giant squid tentacle coming down the Nautilus' hatchway in "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"?

So, you really don't have anything concrete, just feelings and rantings against "arrogance"? Sigh... it's amazing how some things never change.

Citation?

The arrogance is iMazing.

Yup, from the company that replaced the mother board on my out of warranty notebook. Granted, Nvidia screwed the pooch and shipped a ton of defective CPUs - but Apple still replaced it without even batting an eye. Two years after my initial problem, I finally gave up with Dell and the infamous bad capacitors. Simply wasn't worth it any longer. And while Apple was repairing my machine they replaced my well worn case - top and bottom - too. I basically got a new MacBook Pro. It was a trivial expense on their part (just a case after all), but such a gesture greatly endears me to them. As good service does for any rational person when they receive it. More often than not, whenever I have had an inevitable issue with one of my Apple products they go above and beyond what other companies have ever done for me. And yes, I now do buy Apple care on most of my products - but mainly because unlike just about every other extended warranty out there, I more than get my money's worth out of it. You wan't to talk frustration, let's talk Dell, HP or Acer. And BestBuy? Ha!

There's a reason Apple consistently comes in number one for customer satisfaction ratings for well over a decade, and it's not from behavior you are citing above and trying to ascribe as their normal business practices.

Much like we have seen in Behringer aggressively and positively dealing with issues that are identified in forums like this one, a reputation is built, trust is gained and loyalty is earned. Reputation can't be gained through marketing, buying people off or even inane conspiracy theories trying to ascribe a companies success to brainwashing or religious fervor. Yet for some reason, especially when it comes to Apple and techies, this bizarre alternate universe where the rules are different seems to magically materialize and rationality goes out the window.

I'd prefer my vote go to a more responsive organization with ethics based on more onservice than profit.

Where does Apple have an issue with ethics? Furthermore, where is their supposed ethical problems that much more egregious than any perceived ethical problems of other similar companies? Again, please be specific and spare the broad generalizations. Apple has time and again been at the forefront in sustainability, recycling, reduction of waste, pushing of adoption of new technologies in spite of the "quest for the almighty dollar". The tech press was quick to jump on that troll that tricked PBS into publishing his completely fabricated story on "labor abuses" - never mind that Apple is far from alone in using the same contract manufacturers as the rest of the consumer electronics industry - that was always conveniently left out. Not that it would have excused such behavior - except it never happened. Funny how the retractions for such erroneous reporting is never at the same hype level.

And as for support, Apple's reputation is legion for going above and beyond. They don't always hit - no company bats 100%. But in my extensive experience not just with them but a wide range of companies they are definitely in the top 1% when it comes to liberal repair and service - even for out of warranty stuff. There has to be more to your story.

I guess my feelings in this area come from a severe disappointment in the economic shift from producing something useful

Funny, I'm far more productive with my Apple products than any I owned previously. That's why I'm a raving Apple fanboy. Not because Apple is Apple or some other cult of personality reason that's often cited as the sole reason for Apple's success. If Apple went back to sucking like the did in the craptastic Performa days of the 90's, I'd drop them again just like I did back then. It's like SnapOn tools. Some people see them as overpriced status symbols - but for those who's livelihood rely on their tools, SnapOn quality and their standing behind their product with no questions ask make them far more valuable then the "same" tools you can get from harbor freight. It's the same reason I will visit Sears for Craftsman tools ahead of anyone else - their unwavering support of their product has earned that loyalty (that and I'm not a professional mechanic and don't need SnapOn level tools).

to packaging information for use in marketing crap to the (increasingly) uninformed.

Again, please be specific in how Apple "markets crap" [sic]. Nice parting shot with tacking the "uniformed" on the end - implying people are being snookered by that evil Apple. I can't believe you really think that such statements have the least bit of credibility with rational people? Then again, there are plenty who would say I'm not rational for even attempting to engage you given your obvious bias.

Your complaints are hollow. You have an irrational dislike for a company. Fine. We get it. But it doesn't track; Apple would not have the customer satisfaction ratings or sales they do if your vague accusations had any amount of substance to them whatsoever.

Re: Apple threadjack

Dangit guys, ENOUGH! Please! There are plenty of us that are used to the issues with both platforms and we are not interested in reading an argument about them!

Now, has anyone done any comparisons with the s16-m monitor mixers and anything else, like aviom, roland m-48, hearback, or mymix - in terms of quality?

I know that as far as quality is concerned, that the m-48's are the best, but cost $800 each, possibly with mymix in close second... and all the best players that I know HATE the way the avioms "sound", something about the digital snake, no matter if they use the normal ones or the fancy rackmount/remote control ones. I just fired up the s16-m's for the first time tonight and apart from the lightest wisper of a hiss (not acutally affected by any volume control) - they sound great! Especially for the cost!

So please, let's bury the hatchet here and get on with the regularly scheduled program here, cool?

Besides the "hearback" I know/used all of them. I'm with you: The M48 is the best unit out of them, but it is an isolated application as well (you have to use the REAC). The mymix is also a nice product, but a bit pricy and not that intuitive to operate. Therefore it has some additional features (recording streams f.e.), but I doubt, that they are so important for the majority of users. Did countless studio recordings with the Avoim as well. Now that the P16M's are available, I see no reason to go with the Aviom anymore.
It was nice to have back then, when it hit the streets. But now the P16M/P16D is the better solution. Cheap and cheerful. I use it a lot.

Re: P16-M - Cannot read the pot & button labels!

This is a forum to seek assistance & make requests on x32 relkated matters, yes? Yes.

Those plastic printed sheets that adorn the P16-Ms are low contrast - too low to be useful in many musical environments - Granted, in your type of environments, you probably have all the house lights on 100%, but in many that I frequent there's coloured lights, flashing, smoke, and all sorts of hoo ha going on. So much so, that those pesky little buggers get hard to read..So - I requested a high contrast label from behringer.. I didn't feel they were _responsible_ for it... I was making a suggestion and would gladly purchase said sheets.

Thanks for your great advice.

Anyway - I've wasted too many key strokes on yet another arrogant, no help, internet know it all.

Re: New videos on youtube X32 vs Presonus SL

"I hate having to own a Mac just to run VSL."

I don't follow that statement! I have been running VSL on my Dell Windows 7 laptop for over 6 months comlpletely trouble free.

I think Behringer should have a look at this, and come up with a better colours, maybe even some glow-in-the-dark paint for the printing.

Why is it Behringer's problem that your clients play in the dark?
Yeah, why should Behringer respond to a request for bettering their product? After all, it isn't like it is a common thing to play without proper overhead reading light, is it?

Re: P16-M - Cannot read the pot & button labels!

BTW, I really like the idea of having the text backlit with LEDs (switchable of course), and with the cost of multi-color LEDs these days, maybe even color configurable like the poster above tounge-in-cheek suggested... I'd even be willing to pay a few extra $$$ for it...

but in all honesty... once you get it configured, working and set up, do you really need to change it much at all?

if your musos are looking to change their monitor mix that frequently, I think there might be something else going on?
