That's really funny.

I don't see what presonus wants to achieve... Can't they accept, that both of consoles are preety good, and each better in various things? Shame.

I agree. Little bit like a new boy in the office who is seen as a threat by the established staff! Forgetting that the new boy is keen to develop and likely to have fresh ideas and do things slightly differently, but in the long run will be an asset. I do love how they go on to say 'doesn't do this or that' given the few months it has been around, the fact some software is still in beta and the constant updates. Helpful for PreSonus to assist Behringer by highlighting a few things they should consider implementing in version 2 software! Love even more that they don't really understand the x32 properly!

Ipad wireless connection

Guys,
I dont claim to be a networking genius as I am a sound guy and yes I know we all are going to need to have a bit of network savyness in the not so near future as it seems as it everything is going in that direction, but can someone please offer up some advise here. A little history, this router was used with this console on a show back in October with a different Ipad. Here are my screens:

X32Screen.jpgIpadScreen.jpg

I have used this router with this ipad connected to my in house internet so I know that the router and Ipad play nicely together, however when attaching the routewr to the X32 I get an error message that says the cable for the internet is not plugged in!!! and yes I am using the same cable from when the router was plugged into my in house wired router for internet.

Help

Re: Fairy Tale more like!

I'm afraid, that the PreSonus vs. Behringer war is in the air... And that would be really bad for both companies' images. And for their clients too...

I propose we all go on the Presonus site and use the form on their contact us page to tell them what you think about their "book".

I think that won't bring any result. We just will look like Behringer's fanatic-fans who try to save face of lovely company. Even if we are right.

Once everything is setup and running, unplug the x32 Ethernet then plug back in. Sometimes mine needs a kick in the pants.

Id advise setting the gateway as 1.1.1.1 as the x32 doesn't need Internet. I seem to get more reliable connectivity after this.

XiControl Detail Screen

OK .. I give up. I must not have gotten the memo. :?~:-?~:???:

In XiControl, the Detail screen tab, the Main box on the right ... what does the Mono fader control?

I've not seen anything happen when moving that fader.

I've had to do this as well and it works fine afterwards.

The Gateway on my X32 is set to 10.0.1.1 and I use an Airport Express set to the same 10.0.1.1

I frequently use the same Airport Express when I mix on my friend's PreSonus and have no problem with the the settings. Everyone in the band can connect.

It controls the level to the mono bus coming from that channel. There is no Fader that corresponds with that fader on the console, but there is a rotary knob in that section of the controls right next to where you assign things to the mono bus.

In my opinion the reaction of Behringer on the things Presonus is doing the the right one: not even ignoring;-)
And I am sure that we all should do the same.

Re: XiControl Detail Screen

I'm not a fan boi, so I think there is merit to Presonus' point about the clipping channels. Same goes for feedback control. I've said this before, but there is too much "left/right" looking between the channel strips and screen when I feel it should be more unified. Just my two cents.

Chris, is this a Cisco/Linksys EA3500 or a member of the EA family? If so, you can forget about using it as a stand-alone wireless access point... it only works (with the factory firmware, anyway) as an internet router.

On mine, when the subnet mask on the iPad and on the console are set to the same value, the iPad instantly disconnects. Changing the subnet mask on the console to 0.0.0.0 makes it connect again. YMMV, and I have no idea what a subnet mask is. All I know is it repeatedly disconnects when both are set the same. I use a new Airport Express Base Station FWIW.

Good luck.

Edit: Oh, and I set the gateway to 0.0.0.0 too.

The subnet, funny enough sets the subnet.

ie - 255.255.255.0 is the standard. If your x32 was 192.168.1.5 .. Anything in 192.168.1.1 thru 192.168.1.254 can see it.

if you set all zeroes... It prob won't be as efficient as it will be fully open.

How about this one:

[Mixer X uses an old- skool approach with a wired personal-monitor system. They suggest that you buy their Digital Snake I/O box, Personal Mixer Input Box, and as many Personal Mixers as your band requires.

The total tab for a 4-piece band would be at least $1,900.

Moreover, you are limited to creating mixes from just 16 channels.

Assuming you’re already taking advantage of Virtual StudioLive and StudioLive Remote via a laptop, QMix can cost as little as $150 per person: the cost of a used iPod touch. That’s a total of $600 for that 4-piece band—less if a band member already has an iPhone or iPod touch.

Based on current retail prices taken from dealer Web pages. Digital Snake $899; I/O box $299; 4 individual Personal Mixers $199 each.

Really?!

I count it to $800 for four persons including the cat-5 cable, and I also don't have to pay for a laptop.

This is still assuming that the iphone can't do monitor control.

And claiming 16 channels instead of 16 sub-mixes. Huge difference...

I guess it's not a power amp - for me that's digital signal converter (for eg. AES-50 -> MADI). Look at the rectangle leds - I think they show connection status of 2 inputs and 2 outs. But... Only 8 days left to answer.

PS. Why the console on the left doesn't have channel strip displays? (That's a rhetorical question)

My guess is that it shows an X16/32R and a 16ch version of the X32, along with an extension control surface beside it. Buy the 16, make it a 32 later. Either that, or it is a pure control surface for the R-Unit.

The smaller unit? Some sort of converter/switch.

I'll take one of each thanks :)

Tim,
its an asus RT-N12 and I had it working on a previous gig with a different ipad.

Chris,

Most/all of the networking issues I've experienced with the X32 (and in general with my iDevices) have all been at the iPad/iPhone end. Turn off WiFi on the device, drop it onto AirMode, then reboot. Switch everything back on and it should connect problem-free.

I now do the above with every setup of the X32, is a lot faster than messing about trying to get the iDevice to connect to a fresh network.
