X32 Discussion

Re: X32 Discussion

The truth of the matter is that everything gets saved irrespective of settings. The state of your scene safes are saved.
The state of parameter safes and channel safes are not saved or recalled.

Library presets have to be saved individually.

Can you imagine that I don't get it anymore, if people from behringer seem to misinform me like you state...

Re: X32 Discussion

Anyone else noticed that the Namm countdown on the Behringer website is 1 hour off when compared to the one on namm.org ? I guess the Behringer booth will open 1 hour before the Namm show itself opens its doors.:D~:-D~

Re: X32 Discussion

Hi Robert,

The latch on the XLR female receptacle is not easily removable, and I'd strongly advise against removing it. Most obviously, you'd likely void your warranty, but also you'd lose the assurance of a properly connected XLR cable. The last thing I would want to troubleshoot (having to go behind the gear and dig around cables) is knowing there's a possibility that a cable came unplugged. These same type of connectors can be found on our MIDAS consoles, stage boxes, etc.

Tnx for your reply.

I understand what you are saying. I've personally never had any issues with xlrs popping out by accident on equipment having no latches.

Re: X32 Discussion

I've never been a fan of this locking mechanism as a slightly damaged xlr-shell may become stuck in the socket.

Isn't this a lack of maintenance... But it has happened to me also to be honest. But I really want these locks, special with phantom power applied.
If you don't want to lock your cables anymore you could (for neutrik) also cut the lock part of the male cable connector.

I've been amazed by how small dent can make the xlr get stuck and it can happen in a flash. On one occation the dent was so invisible by the naked eye that I had to do a mechanical test to verify that the xlr was indeed damaged...

Shit happens...

Hi Robert,

The latch on the XLR female receptacle is not easily removable, and I'd strongly advise against removing it. The last thing I would want to troubleshoot (having to go behind the gear and dig around cables) is knowing there's a possibility that a cable came unplugged.

This is pretty obviously a religious issue.

In the "Let the XLR's Be Free" camp, we believe the cables can and will connect properly without the locking tab, and that the most likely cause of a cable becoming unplugged is someone tripping over it and yanking it out. We believe that it is better to lose a connection that way than to have the cable yanked out of the connector which is still locked in place.

Additionally, having no latch on the connectors means that unplugging a mass of XLR's at the end of the gig is a wholesale transaction, with multiple hands and fingers able to remove several connectors at once from the patch field.

With latches, this process is a retail transaction, with each connector needing to be individually unlatched and disconnected.

Think of the fingers!

When building my own snakes, I'd file each latch down, and in the nearly 40 years I've been doing this kind of sound, with probably 250+ latchless channels, there has never been an issue such as you describe, although, to be fair, there have also been very few issues with cable trip-yanks. I bought ProCo subsnakes in part because they have no latches on the connectors, although Radial does.

Powered speaker connections are another story IMO, as are hard to reach connections and sequential cable junctions.

I do tolerate the Repressive Latching Faction, of course, and do not advocate action against them despite their misguided ways.

Sorry about that, I definitely do not like to be in this situation, it is doing my head in constantly have to recheck things that I thought that I already knew. Particularly these early days when the functionality is in a bit of a volatile state, one can never take any previous knowledge for granted. Add a bad memory, and you're in for a torrid time.

Basic truths:
- Every scenefile contains all of the data within the scope of the scene files. When a parameter, channel or scene is in safe mode, data still have to fill the space where the "unwanted" data is supposed to be residing, so whenever a scene is saved, the whole state of the board (whitin the scope of scene files) is saved. It could have been done another way, with an incremental or partial save, but this have so many pitfalls that it is my belief that the current strategy is by far the best one.

- The safes are "recall safes", you select what you want to recall. When you change the recall safes, you will change the way the scenes behave, but the scenes themselves are not changed unless they are saved in the new recalled state.
A word of caution pertaining this; If you safe every parameter of a scene and recall it, and then proceed to save it, the scene being saved will quite possibly be a totally different scene from the one originally stored, because none of the scene was actually being recalled. Example: if scene 12 is all muted and scene 13 is all full on, you are in scene 12 and recall with scene safes, the mutes won't change, and a save will then store that state, so unchecking the safes and recalling it again won't give you back the old full on setting. You can of course use this to create different versions of a show file if that is desired as long as you revert to importing the original show for each run trough.

- Scenes are a blessing and a curse, much like women ;)~;-)~

Re: X32 Discussion

English - What a wierd language ;-)

I ment that I've never had an xlr with no latches pop out without human intervention.

Try more subs or go live on a faultline ;)~;-)~

I totally agree, given the choice between plugging cables back in and replacing the shredded and torn snakeor the broken input board, I'll happily plug in a few. If the cables are prone to fall out because of the weight of the cable, then obviously the solution is to secure the cable in a manner that is both safe and looks after the integrity of the cable.

..... or buy a couple of digital stageboxes....obviously and halve the number of xlrs involved

Re: X32 Discussion

Looks like a rack mount x32, maybe the Producer 32 is just a control surface for the "Core" rack unit. And the x32 Compact maybe a 4 (8 chann.) layer version of the x32?

Just my guesses.

Looking at the left-hand side of the x32 compact, it certainly looks like double the layers, so you are correct.

The "Producer" appears to be missing the effect/user defined buttons and monitoring, but has something extra in place. Ideas?

I'm curious as to the difference between the core and RU versions.

Either-way, better start saving. :)

I'm quite convinced that the 3U Rack in addition to the extra controls and screen on front has more stuff on the back as well, such as inputs and outputs and in essence is a complete X32 minus most of the surface.
I'm equally convinced that the 1U Core, is simply that, a Core without much of anything besides the digital ports (AES50, Ultranet, LAN) and a status display and buttons for reset and getting the comms going. Hopefully there are a couple of extra bits thrown in to makes us smile even broader, but I Imagine this is the first thing that is going to find a way into my rack to keep S16 company. I want the rest, but the Core I just have to have :)~:)~

Edit: And since this is so far off topic that any further travel along this path will takes us over the edge and into the outernet or the nethernet, I'll not pursue this any further and instead crawl back into my fjord before I feel the wrath of the Bennett.

I'm sure Per is correct and Chase is mistaken in this matter. It was one of the first tests I did on the console. Save always saves everything regardless of safe settings. These only filter the recall.

edit: Sorry, I was a page behind when I posted this so didn't see Per's subsequent reply.

Re: X32 Discussion

Per is indeed correct with this issue. When performing a console backup I advise making sure none of the Safes are selected, as they'd probably still be selected when ready to recall the Show/Scene. Thank you for the clarification.

I have my analog snake always be secured on a chain with snap hook at FOH desk. Thus cable and connectors have little mechanical load.

Don't forget the warranty !

Voltage

One for the Behringer tech guys.

There has been mention of the desk resetting if it hits around 90v for 5ms or more... is that regardless of the input voltage, or does that only apply to the 110v supply, and on higher voltage supplies (say the 240v on mine) it is different?

My very first post! I've been lurking around this forum for a couple of months and I finally got an X32 last week, S16s showed up today. I got to use the desk in a live setting on Friday (my first experience using a digital board), it was fantastic. Then on Saturday I risked it and used it for a studio session which was also a great experience. I thought I would post an example of my studio session (when I was lurking I heard a number of examples of live recordings but I wished there were more examples of studio work so I could get a feel for the sound of the board) . I ran all of my audio through the X32 firewire into a Mac Pro, Logic Pro 9. I did use a tube pre on the vocals and bass but I ran them through and X32 pre as well. So here it is (unmastered and not fully done mixing yet, might be a little quiet). Also, if you go to my soundcloud page there are two more songs, on "Say You'll Be There" I used the X32 pre alone just to hear the difference, I was pretty impressed with the pres in this desk!

Also, thanks to all of you that have posted in this forum, you helped me make a great decision and learn about this great board.
