X32 Discussion

X32 Core

Hi Behringer folks,

As I was unhappily mixing at a bar last night, I was thinking about purchasing the X32 Core. I would love to see an 8 channel preamp add on, for gigs this small I don't usually need 16 pre's like the X32 Rack and carrying an S16 would be detrimental to the whole reason I would want the Core in the first place (rack space, weight). I'm sure many others that would use this rig for corporate or other gigs with low amounts of inputs would be appreciative of this add-on as well.

I too would like to see 8 ch input annnnd output blocks. Heres what im thinking, cat 5 from x32 to a single rack space output block to install in my amp rack(s) to feed foh sends,
Or 4-8 send to monitors. I would pay for something like that !

Re: Stereo IEM

FEATURE REQUEST:
Just got the board. The one thing that seems to be a big miss that should be easy to fix is the ability to easily pan a stereo IEM mix. I know I'm not the only one to post this, but I wanted to make sure it was addressed. I think it's especially important to add it to the ipad and the iphone app. If there is a way to do this that I am unaware of, please reply. I would suggest using the even numbered bus (ex bus 2 if bus 1 is left and bus 2 is right side of iem mix). When selecting even bus, center the faders at halfway (-10db) and let them act as the pan control and the 1 bus would still be the fader. As for the app, I'm sure you could add 1 more screen on the fader swipe landscape mode that would have pan knobs or something similar. Thanks for providing this opportunity to give feedback. Mike

Hi Mike,

Welcome and congrats on the X32 purchase.

Stereo IEM using Stereo Buses:
To do this you would link two buses together.

  1. Select the bus, (example bus 1)
  2. Go to Home Page
  3. Click the first encoder labeled Link
This now creates a stereo pair for Bus 1 and Bus 2.

  • Your Bus 1 Send, (on any given channel), is now LEVEL to that stereo bus
  • Your Bus 2 Send, ( on any given channel), is now PAN for that stereo bus

I hope it helps.

Gee, it seems to me that a x32 rack is the same size as a core plus 8 additional inputs and would likely cost as much. Just get the rack and there will be days you will be happy for the extra inputs or outputs.

this works on the console itself, but so far as I know there is still no way to pan a stereo bus send with either XControl, XiQ, or XiControl. That's the functionality I'm looking for....

Re: Auto-Mixing

Well, the band insisted and the radio station is renting a Pro2... All to run a 3 piece band throught a JBL JRX system with the FOH position 5 ft in front of the stage in a room that might hold 100 people.! I was gonna multitrack the band but now I think I will do the minimum work and watch this cluster develope from the sidelines.

I can relate John. i have used the Pro 2 and it is a great sounding desk but if I was in the situation you described I would not be taking it in. I would rather use the X32 as it would do the same thing with a lot less risk. I just did a band that had me set up a special vocal channel for one song to be played at the acoustic guitar that was used for one song. They also had a cheap Casio keyboard that needed a direct line for use in one intro. And was it worth it? Well as the songs went, they should probably drop both. I have done many touring bands and most are just happy to be getting any type of decent gear and pro's to help them set up and do sound for them. I know that if my 5 piece band was on the road I would be taking my X32 along for the show or be happy with 90% of the digital or analog boards out there. As long as I had some one mixing on something they were comfortable with. I also get frustrated when you know what is about to happen and no one lets you stop it.

Well, it worked out fine. The band was Willy Moon, the BE Lee was totally cool and after some briefing was flying around on the X32 and was completely happy with the results. A lot of frantic setup in a bar packed to the gills... It was a free show!!
And... Since the band is on a tour as the opener.. Their programmed set was only about 30 minutes long!

This is extraordinarily useful, Joe. Thanks so much for posting it. It will directly affect all my monitor console configurations and makes the console just that more useful.

The X32 continues to surprise; it is really the Little Mixer that Could!

On a separate routing question, can you please save me some trial and error and describe, in a FOH Console/Mon Console/2 S16 situation, with Mon connected to S16 via AES50 B and to FOH by AES50 A, to get Mon console outputs 1-8 to come out of S16 1-8, and FOH outputs 9-16 from S16 9-16?

You will save me some efforts within a tight time line if so.

Thanks again,
Dan

Hi Dan,

As it is a bit of a long description I will send you additional info to route the outputs in your question.

I wanted to clarify your physical AES50 connections.

If you want to control gain from Monitor Console:
Monitor Console AES50 A port TO #1 S16 AES50 A port
#1 S16 AES50 B port TO #2 S16 AES50 A port A
Monitor Console AES50 B port TO FOH X32 AES50 port A

If you want to control gain from FOH Console:
FOH Console AES50 A port TO #1 S16 AES50 A port
#1 S16 AES50 B port TO #2 S16 AES50 A port A
Run a second CAT5 cable from FOH AES50 B port to feed the Monitor console AES50 A port.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for this, and for the longer description, which I think answers my question.

I believe that the connections on the consoles work in the way you describe if you exactly reverse them, too. I believe that I set mine up to be a "B" connection from Monitor console to first S16, and an "A-A" connection from Monitor console to FOH, and Mon console controls gain and FOH has 12 db +/- gain. I did it that way because the FOH console was to the left of the mon console, while S16's were to the right, and it worked fine.

S16 has to be set up exactly as you say, though.

Thanks again, and especially for your ongoing speed at replying to questions here.

Dan

Re: Auto-Mixing

Glad to hear that things worked out John. When I did our last multi band show with regional/national touring bands, most only play 25 to 45 minute sets. Sometimes it seems like a lot of work for so little time. I guess our work is important to those bands no matter how little they spend on stage and I know some really appreciate it. The band I did last night really liked how they were able to just hit the stage with no sound check as I did them two weeks ago and virtually no changes were need to their monitor mixes and the drummer loves the sound I get out of his kit. I really like the Wave Designer insert on the kick and snare. I also give him a hint of the drum reverb in his monitor to give his toms a bit more depth and he doesn't even know it. And if it helps him play with more confidence then it is worth it. Every time I use the X32 I like it more and more. I also used the IPAD app last night and the band was blown away by how I was able to mix off of it. it could use some tweeks but I think Behringer has done a good job on this one. It is better than the Midas mixtender app.

Re: 2.0 Feature Request

This relates to the graphic eq access and usage:

1) Differentiate more clearly between channels on the Dual Graphic mode. Now, the only difference is one says "A" and the other says "B", which is very subtle when you are in the heat of battle and needing to get there to stop the catastrophe currently underway.

--1a) Best would be the mix bus name on each, in big letters, along with a color difference or something similar so that you KNOW which one you are looking at and don't need to look for anything subtle.

--1b) Make it possible to get to each one with two buttons (one for each side of the dual) in the user definable area. Now you can only get to the "Dual EQ", and you have to further toggle between sides of the dual unit. One button access, please.

This would be very useful to see for which monitor bus you're editing the GEQ. Also on the iPad app it's now a little bit difficult to quickly find out for which bus you're editing.

How is it possible that when a effect is set as side-chain it still will function as an insert when you select it as insert on a channel? I had an hard time to find out where the reverb came from till I found out that it was accidentally set as insert on a channel.

Re: EQ Differences

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but what is there difference between the "Dual Graphic EQ" and the "Dual TrueEQ" ?

And plus one for the ability to recall just once side of the EQ in presets, better to see it as two mono eq's.

Hi Brett,

The TruEQ incorporates a special algorithm that compensates for the gain adjustment overlapping effect that adjacent frequency bands have on one another. On a standard EQ, when neighboring bands are boosted together, the resulting effect is magnified beyond what is visible from the positioning of the sliders. This compensated EQ will produce an adjustment that is identical to the actual positioning of the sliders.

This explanation can be found on page 25 of the X32 manual, which you can access directly at the link below.

Hope it helps.

Bus/Matrix for delay

Yesterday was my first event where I have needed to use a delay speaker arrangement, and one thing that jumped out, based on following the Behringer method outlined in the manual, is that there are more steps than should be needed.

1. Create/send mix to a bus
2. Send that mix to a matrix
3. Add delay
4. Send matrix mix to an analog ouput

Allowing a delay to be added to a bus would drop those steps down to the following...

1. Create/send mix to a bus
2. Add delay

Is there an easier way that I have missed, or can we ask Behringer nicely to speed up the process of setting up delays by adding a delay option to the mix busses?

You already have delays on the output bus...

As Robert said: You can delay a mix bus that is routed to an analog output. There is no need to use matrix for that:

Routing ---> Analog Out ---> set delay on each output http://i.imgur.com/CWlpbqb.png

Thanks guys, totally missed that (was a rushed setup, so ran from the manual rather than exploring).

Maybe Behringer can update the manual soon to add in all the added/new features? :)
