X32 Discussion

X32 Compact/Producer

This might be something that will need a direct response from Behringer, but I am wondering just what the differences are between the Compact and Producer models, apart from the obvious lack of mute-group and scene management buttons on the Producer, and the Producer's ability to be rack-mounted.

I'm also wondering how these two areas will be managed with the Producer. Only controllable via remote software? User-assign buttons?

I'd actually like to see a chart of what each model has/lacks, both in what is physical, and what is "remote control only".

There are new toys on my shopping list, I'm just not sure what it will be yet.

Re: Dead X32 - sorry to report

I just thought I'd report back to say that Jim and his colleague Fiona sorted my dead X32 in double quick time. They arranged DHL collection, in it's flight case, and by my calculations they had it just one day, with the return arranged the next day, arriving back here today.

The documents show they replaced the power supply, installed the latest firmware, tested and repacked it for return.

All through the process they were helpful - and not only did we communicate by email, Jim phoned me up to make sure everything was ok.

They have a system, and the system works. In fact - getting service from Behringer has been very trouble free compared with every other example I've had in the past. The dealer I bought it from was actually cut out of the process, even though they separately contacted me and offered to help.

Thanks to Jim and Fiona!

Hi Paul,
Thank you for your interest in the X32 Series consoles.
The new models released at NAMM should be looked at as full X32 consoles as they share the same DSP and firmware. The main differences are related to control surface and I/O implementation. As the X32 is part of an audio ecosystem all models can utilize the S16 stageboxes for added I/O as needed.

I/O Differences:

X32 Compact I/O:
16 MIDAS Designed Preamps
8 XLR Outputs
6 1/4" TRS Auxiliary ins and outs, (Auxiliary 5/6 also have RCA)
2 - AES50 ports (48 in x48 out)
1 - AES/EBU
1 - ULTRANET port, (16 ch - for P16 personal monitor system)
32x32 Firewire/USB card included
2 - 1/4" TRS Monitor Outputs
1 - XLR Talkback Mic in
MIDI in and out
1 - XLR Lamp in

X32 Producer I/O:
16 MIDAS Designed Preamps
8 XLR outputs
6 1/4" TRS Auxiliary ins and outs (Auxiliary 5/6 also have RCA)
2 - AES50 ports (48 in x48 out)
1 - ULTRANET port, (16 ch - for P16 personal monitor system)
32x32 Firewire/USB card included
2 - 1/4" TRS Monitor Outputs
1 - XLR Talkback Mic in
MIDI in and out

X32 Rack I/O:
16 MIDAS Designed Preamps
8 XLR outputs
6 1/4" TRS Auxiliary ins and outs, (Auxiliary 5/6 also have RCA)
2 - AES50 ports (48 in x48 out)
1 - ULTRANET port, (16 ch - for P16 personal monitor system)
32x32 Firewire/USB card included
2 - 1/4" TRS Monitor Outputs
1 - XLR Talkback Mic in
MIDI in and out

X32 Core I/O:
2 - AES50 ports (48 in x48 out)
1 - ULTRANET port, (16 ch - for P16 personal monitor system)
32x32 USB card included
2 - 1/4" TRS Monitor Outputs
1 - TRS Talkback Mic (with gain control on back)
MIDI in and out

X32 Compact: basically a smaller desktop console similar to the full X32 layout
8 less input faders compared to the full X32
The physical Bus Send Encoders have been removed from the channel strip
Smaller Assign Section, (8 buttons, no Assign encoders, one layer)
See I/O differences above

X32 Producer: more compact, and therefore is rack-mountable
Smaller screen 5" vs 7" TFT screen
No Mute Groups buttons, but you can still use Mute Groups via XControl, as well as you can assign any Mute Group button to any of the 8 Assignable buttons on the console. You can also control access the Mute groups by pressing the MUTE GRP button by the screen and using the rotary encoders
Scene management can still be done on the Producer, by pressing the added dedicated Scene button near the screen, you can use the rotary encoders beneath the screen for scene management, (this is also true on the X32 Rack).

The physical Bus Send Encoders have been removed from the channel strip
No AES/EBU (2 Channel digital out)
No LCD Scribble Strips

Re: Sonar Webinar?

Whatever happened to the Sonar/X32 webinar that was going to be done the last week of December?

Hi Rob,

We will be redoing the X32 Sonar Webinar, as we will be shortly releasing firmware 1.13 which addresses the control surface compatibility issue with Sonar.

Re: Stereo IEM

Stereo IEM using Stereo Buses:
To do this you would link two buses together.

  1. Select the bus, (example bus 1)
  2. Go to Home Page
  3. Click the first encoder labeled Link
This now creates a stereo pair for Bus 1 and Bus 2.

  • Your Bus 1 Send, (on any given channel), is now LEVEL to that stereo bus
  • Your Bus 2 Send, ( on any given channel), is now PAN for that stereo bus

I hope it helps.

Hi Joe,

Unless I'm missing something, this only works on the encoder sends, not on the Sends on Faders.

With the latter, the faders are linked together and output only comes out of the left channel. The encoder sends work as you say.

Before trying it out, I was wondering how the fader link would be unlinked to achieve this function while still combining the channels, and if the balance fader would look like the "GEQ on faders" function. Not.

Still useful, I think, although I need to ask my real monitor engineers at our meeting tonight for their feelings.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Stereo IEM

... And also not on the remote controls. This will be in future an issue for all the other incarnations of the X32 because they will have no rotary encoders for the bus sends.

Hi Guys,

I just want to point out that you can do everything on the screen with its' rotary encoders that can be done with the dedicated bus send controls on the X32.

- Select a channel
- Press the HOME button
- Page over to the Bus Sends section of its' channel strip.

Here you can set all send levels as well as change between Pre/Post Fader, Pre/Post EQ, or Subgroup modes.
On the X32 Compact / X32 Producer, there is still a dedicated button to bring you to this page for the selected channel.

+1
I had similar interaction with Behringer folks though my problem was way smaller than yours.
Nothing but stellar experience.
In my case I can say big Thank You to Joe Sanborn, Chase McKnight and Keneia Simmons!

Re: X32user.net

Strange, it gave an error, and then refreshed a few minutes ago.

Could be that the forwarding to the forum didn't agree with you browser, I've added a link just in case it is a general problem.
Maybe one day I'll take the time to make the site a bit more presentable and implement the stuff that people feel they need (wiki, document archive, links portal, ?????? )
Bennet, sorry for using your forum to "promote" other sites, I don't like to do that, and try not to respond or comment too often.
