X32 Discussion

Re: Stereo IEM

Stereo IEM using Stereo Buses:
To do this you would link two buses together.

  • Select the bus, (example bus 1)
  • Go to Home Page
  • Click the first encoder labeled Link
This now creates a stereo pair for Bus 1 and Bus 2.

  • Your Bus 1 Send, (on any given channel), is now LEVEL to that stereo bus
  • Your Bus 2 Send, ( on any given channel), is now PAN for that stereo bus
Still useful, I think, although I need to ask my real monitor engineers at our meeting tonight for their feelings.

Real monitor engineers think having this on encoders only is fine, although they've also seen it where the odd-numbered fader is volume as normal, and the even numbered one is pan with a center lighting up the mute button, just like on the GEQ on faders option. The latter allows a full-mix view of that mix.

i could live with this an implementation for the XiControl App. i would think that would take less fiddling to implement than some kind of rotary encoder scheme.

i'm curious. what desk does this currently?

Speaking with my monitor engineer hat on I would personally like to never have to touch the rotary encoders and do everything with faders, for me personally it's just a quicker way of working...

Re: Redundant backup

I am seriously considering the X32 to replace a StudioLive 24.4.2. HOWEVER... my one big stumbling block is that I need the capability to do a redundant backup. On the StudioLive there are D-Sub analog outs that I send to a Tascam X48, in addition to recording directly to Pro Tools via Firewire. Do you have a solution with the X32?

Thanks!

Danny

Firmware 1.13

New Firmware 1.13

Improvements:
• New OSC server functions (osc-server V0.90)
• Mackie Control Universal support improved (i.e. for Cakewalk SONAR)
• New user assignable controls for faders, dca and mutegroups
• Insert-'source' text for fx 1..4 indicating where the effect is inserted
• Corrected scene parameter safes for Preamp and Delay
• Improved redraw function for scene load
• Corrected indication of channel send fader position on home screen
• Firmware required for XControl remote control software version 1.01 and later

In looking at the block diagram for the StudioLive, it looks like it's doing a non-transformer split right before the insert jack.

To replicate that exact configuration with the X32, you'll need to split before going into the board.

You can get a cheap splitter for $300.

Re: Redundant backup

I guess I was hoping for some alternate output ideas I might have missed. Expansion slot for more analog outputs. Madi output. Something!

Oh, well. Looks pretty good otherwise.

Sorryif it was asked before. Unfortunately Tapatalk app dont search so noce to find an answer.

Here is the question.

Is there a way to transfer presets from x32 control app or osx program to my X32 desk. I have a lot of stored scenes that include so much settings for channels and fxes that I would like to store in the library for later use. Any suggeestions?

Thanks in advance for your hints.

Henry

The dsubs on the studiolive are after the preamp and the split is buffered as well. This means that the studiolive must have power to still pass audio.

In xControl, you can use the "save settings to file" to export a scene, or if you press the Utility button when on the Scenes page, you have the option to export the show - export them to your USB flash drive, then import them on the desk from the USB. Just be aware that importing a show will overwrite all your current show settings, so be sure to save them first.

Depending on your setup you may use the stagebox to route the direct out's. Otherwise, on the board alone you have the 16 outputs, the auxes + the digital output and monitor bus to do a creative routing for recording.

It sounds like in the future there will be some dante and/or adat (there is already adat on the stagebox for recording) support. Also, there will be a direct to disk recording in the future, possibly only 24(?) channels.

The cheapest solution in my mind would be to connect a X32Core and record to a separate computer from AES50, but that would of course not be completely redundant as it would not cover a crash in the source of the AES50 stream.
If you want to use the X48 to record, you could do that by connecting up a few S16 to provide signal output, but that would again not give you full redundancy. Depending on the configuration of the X48, the S16 solution might work out fairly cheap if you can utilize the adat outputs, you could then even have full redundancy by going the splitter route.

Or there is a button to synchronise OSX program and the X32 (in any way you want). It's in the "Setup" section of the OSX soft if I remember well.

Thank you, Per. While that would potentially work, in a practical sense it's too cumbersome. What I really need is direct outs, or more assignable outputs. An expansion card that would add another 16 analog outs would work, too. Since I do live remotes all the time, I need something simple to set up.

I'm sure there are ways that wouldn't be cumbersome, it all depends on what you want to record to and what kind of redundancy you want.

I believe this sort of recording setup dilemma is facing many of us, and one possible solution that would require a small leap of faith from Behringer, would be to make the X32Core a complete recorder by including a hard disk receptacle and a recording card capaple of recording 32 or more channels to said harddisk. Maybe a recording card with a Seagate GoFlex or USM receptacle or something along those lines. The X32Core should be able to safely dedicate more resources to the recording function because it will likely have less household tasks to perform than the X32, and will more than likely never have to perform all possible tasks at once.
We were sort of expecting to see a direct recording card introduced at the NAMM, but I guess the flood of other products in the family made that an impossible task. Hopefully we will get a sneak preview of the new recording card soon, but if we could get a real badass recording solution for the Core, it might be worth the extra wait. So, Uli and crew, please please please!!!!!!!!

Re: Redundant backup

Thanks for the suggetsion. However, the splitter is not the problem. It is then not a backup. I would heave to have a separate gain stage.

An analog split would result in redundancy starting earlier. You’d be protecting against a power-supply failure on the StudioLive.

(If you sourced the Tascam from a different circuit, you’d have even more redundancy.)

Right now, your redundancy starts after the pre-amp of the StudioLive, which still makes you dependant upon the StudioLive.

It might be wise to take a step back and ask: “What types of failures have you encountered?” or “What types of failures are you concerned about creating redundancy for?”
