X32 Discussion

Re: X32 Discussion

Does anyone know if there is a way to delete scenes that have been saved?

AFAIK there is no way to delete a scene other than removing it using a PC, but a scene that has been removed from a show will not be loaded in with the show even if it is present on the stick.

Saved how? To a USB stick or within a show on the console?

Once a show or a USB recording is on the stick you need a computer to delete or rename the show or scenes or recording.

Within the console, hitting Scene View and then Utility shows a "delete scene #x" option, and you can delete all you want.

Re: X32 Discussion

Is it possible to pan stereo Bus mixes from the iPad app? Our band runs stereo in-ears and we need the ability to pan sources in our mixes from iPads on stage. I suspect this is currently not possible and this is the sole reason our band has not replaced our SL24 with an X32.

Well I was going to test it for you with my iPad but it won't let me link buses in the demo mode; I do know that you can pan on buses in the Mac/PC app. I'll try to test it next time I'm at church with the board.

Re: X32 Discussion

I have a few suggestions for the x-mix ipad app:

I know custom layers have been suggested before for the console, and I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned, but having a custom layer for the iPad app seems easy to program. I find myself assigning single channels to a DCA, just so I can live on the DCA layer and have quick control of my FX returns. It would be nice to have an 8 fader custom layer where I can have my drums DCA on fader 1, then choose to have single channel of lead guitar next to it. The idea is so I can tweak EQ's, comps, delays directly from the "DCA" layer without first navigating to the actual channel layer and entering those parameters.

Agree! I would use this a lot! Having to swap pages is currently my biggest hurdle at being fast enough for live mixing via the ipad. If I could select 8 of my most used faders I would be set! I'd probably pick 4 DCA's and a few key members.

As an add (scope creep FTW), I wish there was an ipod touch/iphone app that could do the exact same thing, but for maybe less, maybe 4, configurable of course. In our case, I would love to sub contract wireless handheld controls (mute/unmute/levels) to some helpful volunteer.

Re: Pop. crackle and feedback problems

But I'm close to that. We're going to do 1 maybe 2 more tests. Today or tomorrow we're going to run with just the wireless mic's connected (and active), if that exhibits the behavior, I will throw a DI between them and the sound board and probably run one of our old scene files for some time and see if the problem still occurs. If it happens still, I will drop the wireless mic's in favor of wired for a time.

This is as far as I think I'll go.

I'd like to thank all of you for offering suggestions, and helping me isolate down the issue, it's been invaluable to myself and my church. I think we're very close now.
I thought I'd give a bit of an update regarding our Pops and Feedback problems. We got a loaner X32 from L&M, while they did their tests and went through the process for an actual replacement. We had the loaner board for about a month, and never had the issue once! The replacement board has also came in now, and it's been a couple weeks with it setup and we've also not have the issue again!

Just to add one more anecdotal account, we have connections with another church, and they have had an X32, and had very similar problems to what we had, pops and then ramping feedback. They also got a replacement board, and the problem seems to have went away...

Re: X32 Discussion

Actually, if you think about it, X64 is a more practical approach.
Take the X32, change the software to allow access to both AES50-A and AES50-B simultaneously (that's your 64 channels instantly) and add some hardware.
That would be a few buttons, to allow for selection of layers 33-48 and 49-64 and some internal stuff (i.e. double the processing power to cater for the doubled channel count). OK it's never that simple. Ever tried adding a second CPU to your laptop or PC? A new mobo would need designing and building.
Then ditch the on-board pre-amps, as connection would be made with one of the four S16's connected on the stage end.

The basic workflow would stay the same, as would the general layout (why create work when there's nothing overly wrong with the current design?), which should keep the costs down.

This reduces the actual desk to little more than a remote control unit for the stageboxes (hello iLive....), but keeps the overall format the same.

Then again, why not just add another 16 faders and have 32 channels available on one layer, etc....?

Karl.

P.S. I want the moon on a stick as well!

Agree. Just saw a X32-Compact at Guitar Center in San Francisco today for the first time. First impression: SUCKS! Not a whole lot smaller, BUT missing a bunch of surface controls already. And switching 8-channel banks instead of 16-channel seems to be too much. They had it for $2499, next to slightly used (=near new) full X32 at the same price! I feel these will add a bit to "sucks" reputation of Behringer of the past.

I understand that you can build a 64-channel system out of few X32s, X32 rack, etc, etc, but why not offer a full blown one-piece X48 or X64 right now? I'm sure there's a market for each one of compact and subcompact, but where's the real flagship of the line?

Ideally I'd like to have: X48 or X64, same 16+8 fader surface, 16 in and 16 out on board itself, 3 or 4 S16 stageboxes. I'd buy one of these in a heartbeat.

panning stereo buses is NOT currently possible on the iOS apps. The brilliant minds at TMG are aware of the issue and have promised me they will address this in the future. I dearly hope so, as this is the only thing keeping me from buying several X32 Racks for various chores at my church....

ROuting Aux inputs to Cubase - AAAAHHH!

Please help - I'm going bonkers.

I am using Cubase 7 and have it working pretty well in a studio.

Tonight - I have been trying to use a Mic preamp plugged into an aux input to record vocals.

I get level on the Aux channel on the x32 (ie... its getting input) - no worries.
I can select any other channel, and set it to use the aux as input.. no worries..

I then tried to use the routing menu, and assign Aux 1-6/Mon to channels 25->32.... Setup a VST input in Cubase, and assign it to (say) channel 26 which would equate to Aux 2 correct? - I get nothing.

So I route the aux to a channel on the x32.. and then in cubase I assign the vst input to that channel... Nothing

If I route the channel input back to the channel mic pre and plug a mic in to it... no worries....

What the hell could I be doing wrong?.. It seems like such a simple thing...

If any of you have Cubase and can route an Aux to the firewire card and then to cubase, and record it - can you please give me a procedure that a total numbat (which I obviously am!) could follow?

Thanks
Pauly

Re: ROuting Aux inputs to Cubase - AAAAHHH!

Edit, wrong and misleading, ignore: In the card out routing, route Aux1-6/Mon to one of the banks.

Correct: In the card out routing, route Aux1-6/Mon to one of the banks.

Hello

I am at cabin without X32 but have my iPad. If you go to ROUTING page and there tab CARD OUT you can choose in block of eight, what goes out out to your computer. There seems to be option AUX 1-6 among others. Then on cubase they are inputs 1-6 , if you choose to use first output set.

Hope to have helped you.

Re: ROuting Aux inputs to Cubase - AAAAHHH!

Hi Per

Yes I tried that. It's really frustrating!...

I can sit with Cubase, and select Channel 32 as the imput (RH Monitor out), and immediately see level.... Same with 31 (LH Monitor out).....However if I choose 25 or 26 (that have aux input with level I can see in the desk meters) nothing in Cubase....

In the card out routing, route Aux1-6/Mon to one of the banks.

Dear Pauly,
The Aux1-6/Mon option routes what is set on the "Aux Out" tab of the ROUTING menu to the Card outputs. So, when using this option you would need to assign the direct outputs of the AUX in channels to the Aux Outputs first, similar to assigning channels to analog outputs and choosing the Out 1-8 options.
In firmware 1.15 we have added the "AuxIn 1-6/TB" option which will directly route the AUX inputs to the Card outputs without any further routing.
Hope this helps!

You can manually pan on the iPad app on any fader by grabbing the pan control between the fader and the scribble strip. You will be able to freely move it to the left or right. To re center it just double tap it. Won't this accomplish what you want or am I missing something?

Hello

How about using P16 for each band member? You could feed selected individual channels and mono groups and stereo groups. Each band member could mix freely what he/she wants without affecting others. Thus nearly ultimate freedom.

Nearly - meaning you have to make up your mind about which 16 channels/groups are worthy enough to be sent to monitors.

PLUS each one would get their own EQ and PAN for each channel...
