New Midas M32 Console

Re: New Midas M32 Console

Just started using the new Midas 32 today and I loved the X32 so I was hoping to love the M32 well not so much.

The console sucks. Buttons are sticking, didn't ship with any software drivers nor are there any drivers available via Midas website.

If you are going to ship a new peace of hardware you should make sure it has all that is needed to take advantage of the hype on the website about all it can do.

With the X32 I was able to plug in the USB and start recording but not with the M32 what a shame.

You should be able to use the X32 drivers for USB on your PC and get your recording going.

I am surprised to hear about the sticking buttons. Some of the original X32's had issues like this which turned out to be a production issue involving a solvent that later gummed up the buttons causing the sticking. I am surprised that they made the same apparent mistake again .... and with a much more expensive mixer ..... which one would have thought would have a higher quality standard than the lower priced model.

Re: New Midas M32 Console

Hmmm, the X-USB driver bundled with firmware update ; http://www.behringerdownload.de/X32/X-USB_DriverSetupV2.23_FirmwareV10.zip is probably the right one assuming the Midas card has the latest firmware installed. You could of course try this driver if the other one doesn't work: http://www.behringerdownload.de/X32/BEHRINGER_X-USB_Drv_V1_67_0_signed.zip

However, the card is probably identifying itself as a different card, so might not be recognized, and the setup has to be done manually (I have never tried to tell Win7 or Win8 to use the "wrong" driver, so I don't know if it is even possible these days).

Well, early adopters... Happens all the time. Yawn.

Re: New Midas M32 Console

Dear JRFlores,

Our CARE centers are not aware of reports about “sticking knobs” on M32 consoles. We would appreciate feedback with case number and serial number.

In fact the button design is very different from the original X32 and is based on a reliable automotive design.

The full size X32 has also since been redesigned and all buttons are now based on silicon buttons with PCB carbon contacts, in line with all other X32 models.

Hope this helps.

With all due respect, if you're going to use quotation marks you better be using a quote. He only mentioned sticking buttons, not knobs. He also mentioned nothing about the other members of the X32 system line, however, we appreciate the trivia.

Dirk, your comments always negative and no value, if you don't like midas buy other brand and enjoy life. why not keep forum professional ? I like people from Midas and also Yamaha answer question and make comments,
Can people share experience with M32?

No value? I question behringer people because they don't say fact. If this has no value to you I don't care

OK Berhinger folks, looks like we are going to have to help these fact based Midas people get their console working.

I do wonder why Midas didn't just copy the drivers over to the Midas page and rename the folder to get people going out of the gate.

Its because the Midas Tech support team is the worst I have ever seen in my 20 years as a dealer in the industry (except for Kyle). Its very sad that the Behringer Tech support team and distribution have a better grip on the needs of the end user. I'm not saying Behringer is good by any means but they are far far better than Midas has been since the acquisition. Maybe they are not as well funded as the Behringer team or maybe its a management issue I'm not one to say but we all know that one thing is common with both brands. Once they show a product don't expect to get your hands on it for at least a year or more.

I have many X32, a Pro series system and a M32 on order. I have had a hand full of changes I would like to see in both desks. I have made these requests and all have been meant by the X32 team with firmware updates every few months and non of them have been meant by the Midas team. No updates, No stock, only excuses is all I ever get out of Midas. I still love the desk and will continue to use it I just hope they start to get things done for the users soon.

they not worst, I think they not have a support anymore. I tried calling England office a few times and had no answer.

Dear Brian and Dirk,

Allow me introduce myself. My name is Graham Rowlands and I am heading the Professional Division of MUSIC Group, which encompasses the brands Midas, Klark Teknik and Turbosound. I have been in the Pro Audio Industry for the past 20 years, which included working for the Australian Distributor of Midas.

As head of the Professional Division I am always open to criticism and grateful for any comments that will help us improve our Customer service.

I agree that there is always room for improvement and we are working hard to further enhance our Customer experience. Since the acquisition of Midas we have grown four fold. Never before has Midas sold as many consoles globally. The M32 has exceeded our expectations with close to 10,000 orders! We’re also currently backordered on almost every other console. While we’re excited about this positive trend we understand the frustration that these supply constraints might cause. We are feverishly increasing our production capacity, but the real relief will only come when our new factory goes live early next year.

Over the past two years MUSIC Group has opened three Training Centers in Nevada US, Manchester UK and Zhongshan China. We will shortly be opening another one in Willich Germany, which will be managed by our new hire Harald von Falkenstein. The quickest way to find support is via our website under "Contact Us". Under United Kingdom is listed a number of email addresses and phone numbers you can use for technical support. The same is true for the US.

I understand that your suggestions are yet to be included in PRO Series firmware updates, however firmware updates on large format consoles are highly complex and require extensive testing. Our 70 Engineers who work at our RnD Centre of Excellence in Manchester focus almost exclusively on Midas, Klark Teknik and Turbosound. We are currently Beta testing the next major PRO Series firmware update, which we expect to be made public before the end of the month. In this you’ll find a number of updates and fixes including many suggestions from end-users and, hopefully, some of your own suggestions. We will also soon be releasing an M32 and DL15 Series firmware update to address the 48/96 kHz sampling rate issue. This will allow you to connect the M32 with all of the Midas 15 Series and 25 Series stage boxes.

Thank you for your support and patience.

Graham, Thank you for your quick response to our concerns. I can imagine that larger consoles are more complex in they're firmware and hardware. It's just a little frustration when the bar band has more power with a X32 than I do with a Pro series system. Its kind of embarrassing when a guy walks up to you on a festival and hands you a usb stick and says "hey man I'm in the next band can you record us on this usb stick" my answer is always no the desk won't do that. Then I get "what do you mean my X32 does that" then I have to explain that the technology wasn't in place at the time and blah blah blah…. Or if I want to use parametric and graphic Eq's on my aux sends and I can't do that but X32 can. Or if I want to multitrack a show and I have to bring a X32 to do so. All these reasons are why I'm eager to get my M32 working but I keep getting let down with missed deadline after missed deadline. Im a dealer and I hate returning money to customers or selling them a Allen heath because I can't get product from Music Group. I can assure you this happens several times a month.

Regardless of all of that I hope the Pro series update is worth the wait. Can you tell us more about the M32 update regarding 48K/96K? It sure would be cool if the M32 will do 96K but i won't hold my breath. I have a feeling it will be a 15 firmware update to support 48K and the firmware for the M32 to talk to it.

Thank you for the response. It really shows that someone from the mother ship is listening. Oh and by the way tell the guys over in England to stop giving the excuse "thats how our consoles have always worked" or "the software can't do that" it's the 21st century and the consoles should change with the times and software can do that thats why its software its the programmer that can't do that.

Re: New Midas M32 Console

Don't forget the main problem with software updates on high end consoles (and one Midas have experienced) is making sure that any update is stable. An update can work fine on the bench but problems can appear completely at random and you have to do long term testing before release. The x32 is a much simpler in both hardware and software and therefore updates can be produced quicker and have less things to go wrong.
The problems Midas had with the Gen II update shows this.
