Really?

Were you referring to my earlier comment about most of ours hows being 20K or less? I did not mean people, I meant most of the acts we provide for are usually under $20,000 typically we deal in $5,000-$8,000 country acts. It's not an exact science, but in my experience acts around a certain price tag will have similar riders and sound expectations.

Evidently so. I have provided for the biggest BBQ cookoff in the world for 5 years running now. Over 260,000 people attended last year. And I did it mostly with SOS rigs.



For the OP, I hear that Carvin is making a line array now. Maybe that's the ankle that needs biting?

Another system you might want to consider is a Dynacord Cobra 4 system. I've mixed with these cabinets a number of times in some extremely different situations and configurations and have been impressed with their versatility, build quality, sound quality, efficiency and ease of use.

Cobra 4 is my favorite linearray inside a tent.

I've done a number of shows in tents ranging from 500 to 5000 people, IMHO Cobra 4 performed better than other systems in this application.

No. 2 on that list is Meyer MSL-4. I wish my Danleys had more output.

Nobody that I've come across has heard or can attest to the Carvin line array, on paper it is a lesser offering than the TVI.

Having the NX Rig has been great for me

For most of my shows I have the sound system stacked and it is fairly easy setup 2 subs and up to 4 L23s per side

The HDL has more stacking options as you can place the sub horizontally or vertically and you can stack the tops on top of the subs in either position

You can also go to 16 boxes per side vs only 8 for the NX series

Each HDL has more output than the NX

If I were given a choice I would have gotten the HDL instead of the NX just for the stacking options, I have not heard them, but being a little cheaper than the NX it is probably a little less sound quality, but will it be noticieable?

My NX rig sounds great and I will keep using it but for the shows I do the HDL would be the system to go for

My shows are from 300 to about 1500 (thus far) and the NX has been more than enough, I have yet to deploy the whole system in one location.

Full range boxes are a little while away-but we just finished a prototype sub (a different alignment) that makes a TH115 sound like a front loaded single 12" sub). It is a bit larger (50x50-x18") with 4 12" woofers and kicks like a cannon! For regular Danley listeners-their mouths are dropping open.

I will start basic rough measurements today. We still have "finish work" to do on it-as this is a "proof of concept" and it proves alright-so not that long from production.

There is another 4x12 sub (same kind of performance concept-but different alignment and very different physical layout) that we should start testing in a couple of weeks.

No, and I really didn't care to. The asymmetrical arrays have huge compromises in horizontal coverage that I was not interested in.

Please explain. What makes the TTL-31A "asymmetrical" and how does that effect horizontal coverage? I mixed on the TTL only once but really enjoyed it.

Good luck finding new Dynacord in the US. They are not "officially" distributed here any more. There are some dealers that can get them shipped from Germany, but it is expensive. Good system though...we own a bunch of it.

I think he means that driver compliment is asymmetrically distributed across the face of the cabinet (sometimes called an "axis asymmetric" design). This can cause any anomalies at crossover frequencies asymmetrical across the speakers coverage.

Good luck finding new Dynacord in the US. They are not "officially" distributed here any more. There are some dealers that can get them shipped from Germany, but it is expensive. Good system though...we own a bunch of it.
