X32 Discussion

re: X32 Discussion

i just prepared some future shows on Xcontrol and therefore swapped my flashdrive several times between computer and x32. i started with the flashdrive at the x32 saving some shows, then took it to the computer and edited them with Xcontrol, back to the x32 but the console wouldn't recognize the flashdrive anymore. when i restart the console, the access led lights up and the x32 can read the flashdrive again.

is there some "unplug and eject hardware" mode except for the safe shutdown? anyone got a similar problem?

cheers,
flo

Re: Using the X32 for Corporate Shows

Cant you treat your multiple zones as individual monitor mixes and use either P16s or a second X32?

I don't quite understand your suggestion but I have a feeling the answer is "no!"

If you mean feed PA zones with aux mixes, with all due respect, that's how the amateurs do it. It is just not the correct way to do it. And if I have to use a second X32 to achieve what I want, I may as well get an LS9-32. Although I think the x32 is a lot more fun!

Re: Using the X32 for Corporate Shows

i do think that if they addressed these two concerns, there would little left to prevent the small/medium corporate world from being all over this desk, other than the Fear of Behringer...

I'm beginning to understand how they have managed to get the price of this console so low. There are a lot of compromises in the routing, and other areas.

Unfortunately I think they exclude the console from the professional sound arena. However I think they are all firmware fixes, and can be addressed.
Behringer people, I hope you are listening. I think this is a terrific console, but as it is, I would have to make too many compromises in my system designs.

Re: Using the X32 for Corporate Shows

Hi, I'm not sure what you need in routing, I've set up additional stereo outputs by assigning L and R directly to the outputs 13/14,/11/12 etc independent LR level too if you don't link them.

Amy I missing something?

Re: Using the X32 for Corporate Shows

i, i've come to the conclusion that the central issue is simply that there is no way to make any pair of outputs [mixbus, matrix, whatever] stereo [with the incumbent panning ability] without also locking the output faders together. if there were simply a check mark to decide whether the output faders would be linked, this would solve the problem.

There is - uncheck Mute/Fader Link under Link Preferences on the Global tab of the main Setup page - but it applies to all linked channels, you can't select it on a pair by pair basis (Behringer - please this add to the wish list!).

Re: Using the X32 for Corporate Shows

Still hoping someone will post a link to those Webinars...

I'd like to listen to them or watch them later on Youtube if possible.

The stuff I've seen on Youtube so far (done by some well meaning people no doubt) is not very impressive quality wise (and I have not seen that many yet). It would be nice to see some decent coverage of the X32.

Is there a list of recommended tutorials perhaps?

Re: Using the X32 for Corporate Shows

Does anyone notice a hissing sound coming from the console when the channels are turned up? It seems the more channels you turn up the louder the hiss. The pre amp gain on each channel is set between +17 - +28. I did not notice this at the show, but when I setup the console in the shop and plugged in some studio monitors I could hear this hiss. Note: At the shop no mics were plugged in and the channels were still up from the show. I initialized the console and loaded a scene and had the same results.

Hi John,

Thank you for feedback.
I am glad hearing you that you tested with the Waves MultiRack host.
As VST host I used Reaper and Studio One. Not both of them at the same time of course. I have tested it without recording of 32 channels. Only 1st channel connected to the mic.
As computer I have used HP ElitBook8530w with Windows XP;servise pack3;with Intel Core Duo CPU P8700 2.53GHz; 4GB of RAM.

Hi Jan,
I must admit that I do not have personal experience using Reaper or Studio One for this purpose. I can say that using a full DAW like Reaper or Studio One puts a larger load on your computer than a dedicated host program like Waves MultiRack, that is designed for live use. I have tried using Logic Pro on my Mac, for example, to perform this function and experienced higher latency and occasional digital clicks and pops (on both X32 and other interfaces).
This is not to say that it can not be done, but it might require some tweaking on your part, such as experimenting with different buffering settings as I mentioned earlier. A quick internet search turns up many suggestions for computer configuration as well as a number of VST Host programs designed for live use.

I checked out your photos and your routing looks ok. Hopefully with some tweaking on the computer you will be able to get this working.

Hello

Many microphone preams hiss more, when there is no termination - so open input may be louder than input with microphone connected. i am not at my desk untill monday. But an easy way to test this is :

- set up two channels so that they provie equal amount hiss, when turned up one at a time.
- turn faders down and plug a XLR-connector with a 200-600 ohm resistor connected between pins 2 & 3 - but only in one channel.
- turn faders back up one at a time and observe, if there is any difference.
- let us know, what you get.

Hi John,

Thank you for answer.
If routing is OK, I will investigate more to the detail optimization of computer.
I will let know and to other on the forum, what was wrong.
Anyway, I would like to know more to the details the I/O patch module.

By the way, could you or somebody from your department send link for Webinars, please?

Re: Using the X32 for Corporate Shows

this brings up a related issue i'm having. i want to use a stereo mix bus as a video record feed, but i pretty much just want to set the input faders to unity [post fader] and have it track the main mix. problem is, i'd also like it to track the main mix PANS as well. currently i do not see any way to accomplish this on the X32. on every Yammie digital i've ever used 'panlink' was a cheackable option. I'd really love to see that get added in a firmware update.

Hi Brian,
It sounds like for this application you would want to configure your bus sends as subgroups rather than post fader sends.
To do so, select the input channel you wish to send to the group and press view near the Bus Send rotary encoders.
By pressing the LAYER down arrow by the screen, you will reveal the option to change between pre/post fader, pre/post EQ, and subgroup.
When you choose subgroup on a pair of bus sends, the channel will be send to those busses and their volume and panning would track the main mix as you described.

Hope this helps,

iPad won't connect

The XiControl app just says Trying to connect

I changed the IP address on the X32 etc to match that of my Network

And pressed the Assign button too.

Also changed the IP info on the iPad.

When I changed the last two digits on the X32's IP (and on the iPad) (up by 1) it very briefly claimed to connect. Then went back to Trying to connect again.

I've renewed the lease on my router.

Also checked other devices to make sur there are no IP address conflicts.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

First test to ensure the X32 is correctly on the network..... Can you ping the X32?
Are you assigning an IP address to either device outside of the router's defined DHCP range? I encountered a Linksys once that will not allow wireless communication to IP's on the network that are not in the DHCP address range. In this case I had to pick an address in that range and set it as a DHCP Reservation in the router.

Yes i can ping the X32

Just tried a few higher IP adresses and its finally stayed connected - so far.

Now I need help with routing inputs / outputs.

So another post soon.

Thanks for your help.

re: X32 Discussion

I'm still trying to get MIDI in and out of my X32. I've had no success with Sonar 8.5, but I've seen some people have got Reaper working.

I've just downloaded the latest version, and tried it without success.

I've got the X32 setup as FireWire, Setup/Remote page as RemoteButton On, Protocol 'Mackie Ctrl', Interface 'Card MIDI', MIDI In/Out+CardMIDI.

In REAPER Preferences, Audio/MIDI Devices, I've got X32 MIDI 'Enabled+Control'
ReaperMIDI.png

In Reaper Preferences, Control Surfaces, I've got Mackie Control (dev 0.1), and X32MIDI selected for input & output. But I get an error.
ReaperSurface.png

The error is: "Control Surface: Error opening MIDI inputs and outputs".

Oh, and the X32 Remote Button is pressed. The DCA displays show Mute.

Can anyone help? I'm thinking of sending the X32 back :-(

re: X32 Discussion

I'm trying to use the USb connection from the X3 to a PC running Cakewalk SOnar Procuder expanded.

I've installed the Behringer USB driver OK.

Sonar sees the usb audio ins and outs. The Audio track is set to the X32 usb audio as its input.

Playback is to the usb audio out

I was able to hear playback of a drum loop as a test piece but only intermittently.

If I adjusted the volume level on the X32 the audio broke up and stopped completely.

This happened several times. The audio was not consistent at all.

I can now not hear any audio from the PC / Sonar into the X32.

I am also unable to heat the X32 through my external amp/PA speakers.

This is another issue I realize.

I can hear an electric guitar input but again only through headphones.

The guitar is connected to an Aux input due to a shortage of XLR cables.

How can I hear the guitar through an external PA?

Thanks

Ha! I've got the exact opposite problem! My remote function works but I can't connect a midi-keyboard.

The remote control on the X32 with Reaper works like a charm but I can't open the midi inputs and outputs in your first window. I get about the same 'error opening midi inputs and outputs' error. Maybe you can only use one midi port at the same time. Try disabling midi in your first window (REAPER Preferences, Audio/MIDI Devices) and then enabling it in your second one (Reaper Preferences, Control Surfaces). I don't have acces to my X32 so I can't test it.

That's the way the remote function works with me. My X32 is set-up the same way as yours only via USB.
