X32 Discussion

Re: X32 Discussion

It would seem that this IS the x32 compact. 12 input faders, less lights and 8 user assignable buttons.... Or am I counting wrong?

I make it 8 input faders, and 4 sub faders. Given the overall console is physically smaller, it looks like the screen must be smaller too.

It appears the entire row of digital scribbles is either dark or missing. I hope it is just dark.

But it must be said, this is awfully close to what some of us expressed an opinion that the X16 should be, and X32 as most of the name suggests this is a full X32 but in a smaller form factor. Neat.

Router problem

Ok, I am stuck bad here. Xicontrol worked then stopped now I can barely get iPad to connect. Router is a Linksys WRT54G v5. Do I need to go buy another router? If it connects at a is there a reason it won't stay connected? Pretty frustrated.

Hello

Do you have three different IP-addresses?
- lowest for router - next tfor X32 - and third for iPad

I had the same problem first - time to time it worked fine, then stalled for days. Now it has been working like "toilet of a train" after my friend pointed out, that we need three adresses. Ihave deliberately transported my iPad betwen home and workshop, where I have two different WiFi networks for internet - plus at workshop third just for X32 - now it works every time - just select right network on iPad and off you go.

of course the router for X32 is only for that purpose.

My WiFi routers are older Apple "spacecrafts" - minimum 5 years old - they are on power 24/7 and there is no problem whatsoever.

I believe you are just imagining things unless of course the 32c have got miniature xlr's 3.5 mm jacks, micro usb and fw and micro lan contacts.

Mini XLR - those on wireless headsets:roll:
3,5mm jacks - very common
Micro USB - also familiar
Mini/micro FiWi - never seen or heard of...
Micro LAN - well perhaps inside some small equipment...

SO - 3-3,5 out of 5 ain´t so bad in my book

I would. Consumer gear will crap out eventually and sadly, Linksys is far from what it used to be.

My current favorite is Unifi from Ubiquity Networks for campus installations, but I'd probably go with an AirRouter HP for your application - not because of the high power but the external antenna. I'd probably turn the power down - less issues (it may be counterintuitive but it can be better - topic for another thread).

* EDIT not affiliated with the reseller I linked to other than as a satisfied customer. YMMV, at your own risk, etc....

Re: Router problem

Hello

NO - I do not think you are dummy.

I was just innocently asking / making sure you did have all set up right.

As I posted earliers some days ago, this is NOT described right in users manual.

I also wrote, that my friend, who is good with computers ( I am not...) found that out right away. Then I wrote it should be mentioned in instructions.

So I figure the first thing you have to do is to find out the IP address of your router - please do not ask me how ( my friend did it for me ) and then set X32 and iPad accordingly.

On X32 it is easy - just go to SETUP - NETWORK and adjust it there
On iPad ( I do not have mine here now ) open X32 remote - go to the page, where you connect it and adjust the numbers there.

PLEASE - there must be someone in this community, who can explain this better.

This falls in the too large category of things, where those who do stuff like this daily do not think there might be any problem with anyone trying to do it first time in their life.

Try to google information on home wireless network building - I think same stuff pops out there.

Peace

Re: Router problem

So I am a dummy. How do I change the IP address of the router and iPad?

For the iPad, in the Settings app, look in the upper left hand corner and tap on the Wifi section.

You should see your wireless network (and other wireless networks around you) to the right. The wireless network you are connected to will have a checkmark. All the way to the right there is a blue arrow - tap that and you can turn off DHCP by choosing Static and then manually specifying your network settings.

Minimally you need an IP address and subnet mask, and to be safe for router put in the IP address of your access point. DNS shouldn't matter but if it complains, again put in the IP address of your access point.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't see you also asked about your router - it should have an IP address that you can then connect to with a web browser to change those settings. Probably 192.268.1.1. If not, you should be able to find the manual for it online and do a factory reset (usually sticking a paper clip into a reset port on the back and holding it until some lights flicker in a particular way). Once factory reset, it should have the IP address that's specified in the manual.

For your Linksys, go here: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/WRT54G/ and then click on the downloads tab. Select Version 5 as your hardware and then you should see the manual for download.

As for disconnects, it could also be channel interference - you can manually try setting the channel to 1, 6 or 11. Those are the primary channels - do not use any in between - those blend frequencies used by those base channels so instead of using up one of the primary channels you will use two - and radio spectrum is pretty crowded!

If you have a Mac you can hold down the option key while pulling down the Airport icon in your menu bar and it will show you channels in use around you - pick 1, 6, or 11 that has the least - if there are five networks on 6, four on 1 and two on channel 11, then 11 is probably the best to pick. If you see any, especially if they are strong, in the 7-10 channel range, then stick with channel 1 as channels 6 and 11 are going to be interfered with - same thing for anyone using channels 2-5 - now 1 & 6 are compromised.

Good luck. Wifi is so much fun since you can't control what those do around you....

Re: Cases for the X32

I am looking for an afforable case for my X32. I found this one made by Elite Core at ProAudio.com for U$250. Anyone familiar with the make and quality of Elite Core cases? Better yet, has anyone purchased one for their X32 and, if yes, can you share your opinion of it?

Also, I recall someone saying they bought or were looking at one from Multi-Caisses in Quebec, Canada. I can't seem to find the post but would appreciate if the poster could indicate how much the case cost.

Thanks in advance!

Kevin

Hi, I just received my case from Multi caisse in Quebec. It looks very similar to the one from Elite Core except mine only has one handle at each ends and one in front. I also had a pull handle and some wheels added to it as an option The price was not cheap, I paid $439.00 plus shipping. Btw, 3/8" plywood is not too sturdy, it's fine for me because this mixer will only be handled by myself but I would not dare to put it in my equipmend trailler with other equipment over it because I'd be scared something would fall and break it. But it's already pretty heavy so I imagin going with 1/2" plywood would make it even more heavy. One more thing to remember is that there are some cooling fans under this mixer so you have to make sure there is some breathing space under it if you leave in in the case during operation. Hard to say from the picture if the one from Elite Core has this open space in it. If you need, I could always post some picture from mine.

You are only counting half the faders. There is one fader in each color strip (grey, dark blue, grey, etc. ). This is a picture of an x32 with the button lights and scribble strips all normal... the right hand picture is a test mode where ever LED is on. It never looks like this in normal operation. The picture on the left is more realistic. Note the mute group 1 is on, muting channels 17 and 18 (page 17-32 selected). Channels 31 and 32 are soloed. It is just a PIC of a regular x32.

I would pe-order a 19" rack mount x16 pro (not the iPad x16 idea) that was half an x32 or even better an "x32 rack mount" which was just taller to squeeze into a rack. I still have a DDX3216 because it is so easy to move around in my recording rack.

Re: X32 Discussion

Just to re-iterate Joe's suggestion, having a good UPS is really critical! Thankfully good UPS's are fairly inexpensive. I highly recommend a dual inverter/double conversion/online model. They are a little bit more, but they completely isolate you from the mains voltage - there are two inverters in them (hence the slightly higher cost) - one invertor runs your equipment off the battery, and there is a second that charges the battery.

Unless you have constant conversion model, it will be absolutely useless not following this recommendation. The moderately priced voltage sensing switchover models usually take a full cycle and longer to come online, and will thus exceed the 20mS limit Joe mentions. Gone are the days when decent equipment would have generous caps the size of coke cans and be oblivious to minor glitches in the supply.

PS I was suggesting the Eaton 3S in another topic as a cheap alternative that gets the job done.

So this line of argument makes sense to me. Behringer/Uli has mentioned elsewhere in this thread that they recommend a UPS.

Do any power regulators/conditioners from Furman, et al, get the job done for a permanent installation? Or what is it that a UPS does that these don't, aside from the ability to operate briefly without mains?

I just purchased this Tripp Lite SmartPro .5kVA Line Interactive UPS, SNMPWEBCARD option, 1U Rack/Tower, USB, Serial, EPO, 120V (SMART500RT1U) for my set-up.

A regulator/conditioner will protect from damage due to overvoltage and voltage spikes, and will also to some extent stop noise from entering via the psu. A ups will in addition protect against crashes and hang-ups caused by low voltage.
It seems that most modern line sensing models will indeed be fast enough to protect against drop-outs (so I was wrong in suggesting anything but a constant conversion/online model would be useless), and because they work in standby mode 99.99% of the time, they tend to last longer besides being a lot cheaper. They work as a spike filter/overvoltage protector all the time of course. Since data isn't available for a lot of the models on offer, one really should test if any particular model is fast enough and transparent enough to protect against hang-ups/crashes.

Hi guys

Test Mode for X32 ? Do you guys think it's possible to activate this test mode as a user ? How ?
It will be very handy to check every now and then. Maybe there's a test mode for the motorized faders too ??? (Like the Yamaha desks)

For something like the X32, especially for a permanent install, just get the UPS. The cost is about the same as the higher end power conditioners - but power will never be interrupted and thus it won't reboot or worse.

You just can't beat batteries.

Hello

Besides what obviously is going to be added there is one thing particular I wish to have.

Could it be possible to sweep channels continuously sideways in order to get f.e to channels 3-10 visible at a time?

This would be particularly handy in situations, where you have a group of instruments and f.e. 4 vocals - with this option one could have the channels patched as usually, but still have access to all vocal channels at once. Usually most seem to have drums first, then instruments, then vocals.

Of course the present set of blocks of 8 could still stay where it is and serve as quick-move-aid.

Thanks
