X32 Discussion

Re: Firmware and patching concerns

I apologize as my post did not contain my entire thought. I understand what you are saying is possible, but what they told me and that I somehow failed to mention is that it is mirrored off the rear panel connectors of the X32. What if I need those outs at FOH, but need completely different ones at each S16. That is where it gets shady. Even the guys at the support desk were a bit puzzled about this. Does that make sense? Shouldn't you be able to freely assign any signal to ANY output, be it local or remote? Again, my thought for "expert mode" is to eliminate the limitations of the blocks of 8 configuration. I can see where right now I need to have 4 direct outs sitting beside 2 matrix outs sent to the same S16. As it stands now, I can only do one or the other without tying up other outs at the desk.

The "analog outs" in the routing setup are the same as on the S16. Like you said, they are not completly independant. The X32 is build from 8 channel boards (4 x inputboards, 2 x outboards f.e.). So maybe it is a hardware limitation. In addition, the X32 is a desk, that targets the MI market. So it was designed by default for an easy and intuitve operation. So Behringer walks on a fine line between easy operation and maximum features and I personally think, they do it quite well. On one hand we got experienced user that like to have the possebility to "route themself into Nirvana" and on the other hand there are weekend worriors, that just made the switch from analog to digital and are struggeling with questions like "what is an DCA". So for the price tag, the X32 offers quite a lot but not everything, that a professional user might need. The Midas Pro2 is also a nice desk:-)
And remember...you always have some aux sends on the desk, you could use these for direct outs or matrix outs.

Re: Firmware and patching concerns

Thanks Christian. I see the validity of your points. Again, to everyone, this is why I posed the question- to see what I was missing, from a thought process. Since my initial post about this, as well as reading the other responses, I think I have certainly figured out a patching configuration that will fit my needs quite well, and hopefully others will do the same.

For me, like you, I think that they have really hit the nail on the head with this desk. I am still shocked at how little I paid for such power and capability. My thoughts and questions were exactly that, thoughts and questions. In no way was I ever, nor will I ever, bad mouth this console and the energy put into designing/implementing it. I think it is a testament to the old adage of "pulling yourself up by the boot-straps" when your down. Behringer has had some less than stellar products in the past, but as they said, this really is a "game changer." I am eager to see what affordable products they can provide the MI market in the next couple of years.

Christian my friend

I know your mother tongue is German ( mine is Finnish ) - but I just about craked on this - should it perhaps be "worriers" or "warriors":twisted::roll:

p.s. your pm tip gave quick results - thanks

Harharhar...I'm an idiot! You've got me there:-)

@p.s.: Glad, that it worked out for you!

Re: Firmware and patching concerns

To satisfy the patching needs that sometimes arise, maybe what we need is a "patch-panel" with two blocks of eight patches. This would satisfy the need to patch things by eight where that is needed, you just get a couple more selections ie Patch 1-8 and Patch 9-16. In the "Patch-panel" you should be free to select any signal individually for each patch, and the patches should be available as source everywhere.
Such a Patch-panel wouldn't really require extra processing load, as it would (for the most part, depending on how the signals are distributed between the processors) only be a matter of modifying patching adresses.
If it is possible to implement this relatively easily within the structure of the current firmware, I wouldn't know.

As I haven't got any P16s and are not planning to get any for a while, I use the p16 as my patching panel, looping the AES50 from A to B to make the p16 patches more available (incurring a small latency penalty in the process)

Re: S16 Availablility

Thomann today say this
[/B]
They haven't cancelled my order, so it should only be temporarily, (I hope).
The total silence from Behringer staff regarding the S16 supply situation is of course worrying, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it only means that someone within the organisation is exercising his right to be a complete @$$ about witholding information, and that the problem causing delays isn't a serious one.
So please, Behringer, if you accidentally shipped twenty containers of S16s to the north pole, just tell us and we will forgive you. If it is a serious problem, and you really need to keep it secret for the sake of the health of the company, we certainly understand that too, but we will start to speculate along those lines if this silence isn't broken soon!!

Re: "MI market"

I've seen the phrase "MI market" several times, now. What does it refer to?

MI means Musical Instrument, and refers to equipment that can be bought at your typical MI store as opposed to the Pro Sound gear that is only carried by specialized distributors that deal mainly with "Pro" sound companies. The "pros" often use the term MI in a slightly derogatory manner, as in equipment below their standard etc.

Thanks for asking that, Steve. I was wondering what it meant too.

Sorry to hear about that. I hope you get the S16 soon.

Message to Behringer re XiControl

Thanks for the latest version of the iPad app. I think I have spotted a problem with the way the eq mode control is working. On the desk the lo mid and hi mid for example, only allows PEQ or VEQ to be selected but on the iPad you can select all modes including hi cut and low cut. Similarly on the desk low allows low cut, low shelve, peq and veq but the ipad also allows hi shelve and hi cut to be selected. Don't think you should be able to do this and it would have some pretty bad audible consequences if you changed the mode from the iPad live with the eq enabled. Can you make it consistent with the desk functionality?

Re: S16 Availablility

Sorry to hear about that. I hope you get the S16 soon.

Fortunately, my S16 isn't important, but I think there are others that are fairly desperate, and some have even decided against the X32 for installs because of the unavailability of the S16. If by any chance some priority customers or anybody else for that matter has managed to lay their hands on one or more of these, they have been awfully quiet about it. I know that some demo units have been in use, but I'm not aware of anybody that have actually bought one.

Re: New version of XiControl

I love that the new app includes EQ as well as the meters and fader position. Good stuff.

However, I'm just curious, does anyone else feel that fader movement on the prior version was much more fluid? It seems like now there is a decent amount of lag making movements. Both on the app and on the X32 itself. It still works well and I don't see it being a problem, but it seems like performance wise it may have taken a step back.

Again just curious if anyone else noticed this or if it's just me. I still am the cats ass. In case you were wondering.
I've now spent quite a bit of time playing with the new version of XiControl. There definitively is a visual lag to all controls on the iPad although the reaction to iPad changes on the X32 itself are instantaneous. The visual delay on the iPad is made worse depending on how many of the new functions you have selected in the setup page. With mini faders and mini meters disabled the visual feedback is as good as on the previous version. Mini faders actually appears to cause the most delay and with this disabled but mini meters and fader labels selected the visual delay is minimal. Best test to view the delay is to watch the mutes. If you mute a channel on the iPad the X32 mutes instantaneously but the mute indicator on the iPad is delayed by a varying amount depending on how many features are set to on in the setup page.

Re: New version of XiControl

I have the iPad 1 and also notice a considerable visual lag.

Closing any Apps running in the background may help somewhat.

Maybe the iPad 2 or 3 would be more responsive?

S16 Availability

Dear all,

allow me to comment.

We have been shipping large amounts of S16's which should be arriving very soon in various parts of the world.

However please understand that as a manufacturer we are not responsible for what individual distributors and dealers order.

In this aspect we recommend to contact Thomann etc. as perhaps there is a glitch in their system. From what we know, they have been heavily backordered.

If Thomann does not have stock you might want to check with other distributors and dealers in Europe.

Please bear in mind, that shipping time is around 5 weeks from our China factory.

Thanks for all your patience and support!

Warm regards

Uli

I'm using what I believe to be an iPad 3 (I'm still not sure) its the newest model (I bought it four days ago) its the current model with "retina display".

Uli Behringer replied to a post with a subject line I wrote. I feel fuzzy inside.

Thank you for reminding us that it has indeed been less than five weeks since you told us that it was shipping, it somehow feels longer. We're all like kids waiting impatiently for Santa, and nearly five weeks of total silence on a subject that is heavily discussed naturally have us a bit worried.;)~;-)~

Re: Firmware and patching concerns

The kind of patching that Jef is looking for is available on the Midas Pro2. I have to think to make this price point there are some physical loimitations the people will have to live with. I hear what Jef is saying and that would be a nice feature but for three grand American, this desk has very good routing capabilities and it is very easy to do. The Midas Pro2 is a bit of a PITA. Thanks Christian for all your input on this forum.
