Omni earsets and wedges are difficult.
If we look at any feedback control system, we're looking at 12-24 available filters. I don’t think I’ve ever used one in automatic mode, and I don't think I've never needed more than 12.
I'm with you, beyond some point, you have to look at mic and speaker placement. But, even with a decent omni earset, once you add a couple of wedges and the dynamic range of spoken-word, every ounce of additional gain helps.
In any event, the point is moot, because the Q of the existing filters isn't useful for narrow notching in that situation.

If I found myself using more than 6 bands on parametric on a wedge and still had problems I'd look a mic placement rather than attacking it with more eq. You milage may vary I guess.
