Re: Sticky Buttons

Just an update on my x32 sticky button situation. Thanks to Ian at Music Group the desk was swiftly repaired and returned a day later. (Thanks Ian). He also informed me that any nessecary checks had been done (the headphone whine issue with cable routing checked etc.......)

i just want to add how fantastic the service team are and this next bit is by no means a complaint but a compliment.....

When I got the desk back it sounded like there was a small screw inside as I lifted it to put back in the flight case. I contacted Ian who straight away arranged for the Kiddy service centre to personally collect the desk the next day (luckily they are only 20 mins away from my work). With in 4-5 hours it was returned hand delivered back to work. Unfortunately they said they couldn't locate the rouge bit which, although made me look like I had gone mad(!), actually may have meant that it was so small that perhaps it fell through the fan grill in transit.

Never the less the service manager, who had come in person this time with this colleague said he had ensured the unit had been thoroughly checked again and a every ribbon cable secured. He also he wasn't bothered about the fact they couldn't find the mystery bit as long as I was happy. Also if at any point there was a problem to return straight away.

Anyway, desk is happy, I am happy - I must have had a clean too as it looks brand new again without even a speck of dust or fingermark anywhere.

Music Group - You have definitely got something right with your customer service and level of support which is the best I have come across in recent years, even your receptionist at Kidderminster offered me a cup of tea whilst the person came down to collect the desk when I initially dropped it off. Fingers crossed that this button issue is just down to a few dodgy ones in the thousands made!

Re: X32 Scene Manager 0.1.9 Released

Any news on P-16M availability?

We are spec'ing a system of X-32, 2 S-16, P-16D, and 8-10 P-16M's, but our supplier says that P-16M's are back-ordered with earliest availability of his OVER 80 UNIT back-order is LATE JUNE!

Any leads on some stuck away somewhere in some backwater B&H music, or Guitar Center, or ANYWHERE!

Behringer, please chime in on anything you are doing to increase production, etc?

Thanks!

Re: Monitor out whine

Regarding the whine on the headphone output, the tech advised me to keep the screen brightness to 100% for no whine operation.

I read somewhere that the whine could come from the lcd. Try setting the brightness to 100% to see if this is the issue.

Just for fun - Also try to set the lamp to 100% to see if it helps...

Yeah, not so much. No difference on mine whatsoever, on 48k or 44.1 sampling rate. I changed all three brightness/contrast parameters, minimum to maximum and all points in between, and no audible change whatsoever, during changes or after.

Sorry to be the Grinch....

Hi Grinch ;-)

When I looked at the naked picts of the x32 a while ago I noticed that the headphone cable was routed -under- the dsp card. I wouldn't consider that to be the best place to route some audio cables.

If you're not too concerned by opening up your x32 then check if this is the case in your console and move it outside of the dsp card. This may or may not help.

I am very concerned about opening up my X32's; the only time one has been opened was during a repair center-authorized local servicing. And all 9 of my company's consoles do the same thing monitor-wise, although I only tried the LCD brightness "fix" on one to find that it didn't do anything.

As I've said here several times before, I've solved the whine problem to my satisfaction by using one or two of the other 16 analog outs for the monitor outputs, and ignoring the monitor out XLRs.

I found the whine to come from the PWM that drives the console lighting, ie: scribble strips and encoders, not the LCD or the Desk Lamp.

Reminds me of some old honda car I once had...

I installed an alarm in my car and when done I noticed that the piezo siren was sounding but at some lower level than usual.

I thouht that I'd pulled some of the cable insulation when routing the cable to the siren so I decided to cut the + wire and fix the problem the next day. The siren was still sounding! I cursed and cut the other wire as well and the siren WAS STILL SOUNDING!!!

I showed this to my friends on site and they thought I was just trying to joke with them.

I wasn't easy to just remove the siren as I'd mounted it in a very 'secure position'.

After a long and troublesome investigation I found the origin of my problems - It was the pwm for the dashboard dimmer!

For some reason it caused so much rfi that it made the piezo oscillate...

Just my luck :-(

Hello

That has easy explanation because of the HUGE impedance of pietzo... BUT - how do you explain this :

Customer brought to me a supposedly dead speaker - just the element without box. I measured it with portable ohm meter and got no reading. Thinking my meter might be out of whack I decided to have second option - I have an AC-powered RCL-meter ( resistance-capacitance-inductance ), which uses 100Hz or 1kHz for measuring, and took that. I plugged it into AC, turned it on and connected ONE lead into speaker, and got a reading, that made sense PLUS sound was emitted from speaker...... 8O~8-O~

There is a logical explanation, but I let you think about it for a while....

Re: Monitor out whine

Hi, I'm a guitarist who wants to start a studio but newbie in recording. I just placed an order for x32, should arrive next week (so exited!!!).
I need some help comprehending what is the best way for studio recording with x32. I searched over internet but I can't find the answer to my question.

Is there a possibility to bypass preamps in initial recording, and after that, when mixing, to ad the channel strip section (post recording) to have full control over gain and eq section without to alter recording from the start? Being all digital my main reason is the signal will be all time digital, without reconverted between analog-digital over and over, so nothing will be lost in the process. For example, a friend of mine has Venice F-32, and this console (targeted also for live) it has the ability to bypass preamps for the initial recording, and he use this feature. I read that x32 has this ability only for 6 channels, is this info correct? But when recording drums I'll need 8+ channel to do that.

Above all, is this a better strategy to record (bypassing pres and adding them post recording)?

Please be patient with me.

Hey Dragos,

I don't see any way to bypass the preamp and get a recording. The "preamp" portion of a microphone input simply takes the VERY low level signal generated by the vibrations of your voice shaking part of a microphone and raises it up to where it is useful for being manipulated by the remaining parts of the mixer (in the case of a digital board, I suspect the next stage is to digitize it with an A/D (analog to digital) chip).

What you are likely referring to is the ability to record the RAW signal exactly as it came into the mixer. This would be directly after the A/D conversion (the recording is stored digitally).

When you turn around and play back your tracks into the mixer, you just change the routing from your inputs to card. Then whatever you put into those channels is going to be exactly like if the instruments and vocals were actually coming in live in real time. You can do anything you could do with a live show or a practice (like solo a channel, change the compressor settings, fiddle with the channel eq, then go back to the full mix for example).

Once you get the mix and the sound exactly like you want it, you can either record it on the USB in the X32, or pipe it back into your DAW with the outputs and record it there.

There may be better ways to do this that I am not aware of if anyone else would care to chime in ;)

Re: Bass guitar through DI settings?

well, I am using 2 of the Behringer DI's and everything works fine with bass and piezo-equipped guitars!

Re: Stress test!! This is what x32 can do!! ;)=

Well.... last night, meanwhile my wife's band trying the repertoire for this summer I do some stress test with the X32 and my laptop, like open various windows, launch programs, use XControl via wifi and more, all this while recording in multi-tracks.
I recorded a song in 44.1 but resempled at 48 to do some test with the record program and trying to do the worst things i can do with the recording and hear the result (....I know.....theres no limit at the worst :D~:-D~)
Keep in mind a couple of things: first i'm not a sound engineer (my job is a postman :)~:-)~), second all the components of the band are not professional musicians, third i've recorded without their knowledge:twisted: forth the drum has a mic on kick and one overhead, a mic on the guitar ampli and the rest are line in

The program used to record is n-Track Studio Multitrack Recording Digital Audio Workstation Software

The program used to edit is Sonar X2

My laptop configuration is https://www.dropbox.com/s/p0h72ffh9r9qi63/CRAFTERSOUND.speccy (use speccy to open)

The raw song is https://www.dropbox.com/s/a3u8wpfrh1qdwfv/keyliegh raw.wav (i've normalized the file before export)

The master song is https://www.dropbox.com/s/pw0zte6nw99yt6j/keyliegh master.wav

Guys this is I can do with X32 in a stress test (in my hand:roll:)...and I can't imagine in a professional hand what could be the result:D~:-D~!!!

A big thanks for the Music Group crew for their support for the issue i've had in the past in particular to Fiona and Tiziana
And a big thanks to Behringer for the X32!

Hi Bruno,

Nice mix and cool song.

Is there a reason it was left-heavy? Looked around here and couldn't find a reason on my end for that, so it's in the recording? (Only listened to master song download.)

Do you do the PA for your wife's band? That's fun to get to work together. That's how I met my wife. :)~:-)~

Hi Dan thanks for the appreciation.
No there's not particular reason, in fact if you listen the raw file is perfectly centered all the recordings.
All the recoded tracks are in mono except for the keyboards, and to give more spatiality in the song i've converted in stereo the voice, guitar and overhead drum tracks, after this i've added a channel tools plug in,in particular the overhead drum ch is a bit left centered with some tails effect and i think is this that you mean left-heavy

Yes I do PA for my wife's band ( Muzak ) and we start this adventure in the "land of music" the day of our marriage (13 y.ago) when my mother forced my wife  to sing....a friend of mine was a guitar player.....and the rest is story...
Sorry for my eng

Re: Monitor out whine

OK, I'll bite:

How did you figure this out, and what did you do to fix it?

I just made the adjustment with nobody on stage while the headphones were on my skull. There is a point at which the noise is the loudest which is, I think, 80%. I just run it above or below that point and don't touch it.

If I come up with a hardware fix, will Behringer send me free stuff? 8)~8-)~

Re: X32 Noisy Cooling Fan

Hey Glen,
So, first off: The pop could likely have been a power drop, so a good UPS on this console is a must. It must either be one that is always running through the battery (constant voltage), or have a minimum "kick in" time of less than 20 milliseconds when it switches to the battery. If this is not used, expect that problem again. I use one from "minuteman" that kicks in about 2-4 milliseconds. I've used others from "APC" without a rating on their "kick in time" and have had problems.
Wow, me and my church have been having a horrible time trying to figure out what was going on with our X32 over the last month or so. Every 3-4 hours we'd get a big pop and our effects would ramp up and feedback. Even with noone was touching the console (physically or wirelessly), and with all channels muted except a single wireless mic. Seeing this post seems very relavent for us, thanks for posting it.

We'll be picking up a UPS this week and see if it solves our mysterious problems. We're tossing between an Eaton or a Liebert, as thier specifications include kick in time's and are well below 20ms. Anyone have any preference between the two?

Again, thanks for the post Declan, we were about to take the board back!

Dan

It's the vocals, primarily, although the snare/hat/ride and guitar seems also panned hard left with tails in right.
