X32 Discussion

re: X32 Discussion

Ordering one in a few weeks. Saving my pennies from a few more gigs. It won't take long at the price of entry. A real game changer, I paid almost that much for my 24 channel Soundcraft GB4 last year.

re: X32 Discussion

I ordered two, but then sold one, then ordered another one. So three total. And I have two S16 stageboxes on order as well. I'm going to be getting the second batch, mid-September.

Did you make a profit? Is there a secondary trading market opening up:twisted:;););)

I'm a Behringer dealer, so a customer bought one. I have had many other customers interested; I don't anticipate any trouble selling off the others, though I do want to keep one for myself.

PS - I'm planning to buy a Midas Pro1 to complete my Music Group system :)

re: X32 Discussion

How do you figure that the S16 stagebox system will be an expensive way to save a few minutes of time?

Have you priced out a 200 foot 32 channel copper snake lately? It will be dramatically more money than a pair of S16 stageboxes plus a cat5 cable.

In fact, I bet you could sell your existing snake, buy a pair of S16s, and have enough money left for a few chilled glasses of beer!:D~:-D~

Can't sell this one for very much I'm afraid, probably just enough to buy a CAT5 drum. If I need more channels, I'll use my 12/4 on the other side of the stage. If I need more than 100 foot, my mains will be too small for the venue anyway and my eyesight too poor . Then again, I don't really need the mixer either, I just want it, like I want the S16, but I'll survive for a couple of months rolling out the copper monster. Come to think of it, maybe I'll just skip the S16s alltogether and just get another X32, (1400 for two S16, that is just another 900 to have a dual set up where one will be stagebox/monitormixer).
What would really make the S16 the perfect multi use tool would be a reasonably priced AES50 interface or even better a X32 rackbox thingie to be remote controlled for the small gigs ( X32 internals, no preamps or control surface). I imagine Behringer will stay with the AES50 theme and maybe come up with AES50 iNukes for the line-array, a digital wireless multi channel receiver with AES50 etc.,

And to Nick Davis
a - I ordered the X32 based on Christian's review, sort of. I more or less decided to buy it when it was announced, but waited for the first review to actually place the order.

Hmmm, I'm not sure how prices in Europe compare to the USA, but a basic CBI 200 foot 32x8 with no multipins runs around $1200. A 200 foot piece of CBI Duracat5 with Ethercon is about $150.

Also, while MAP pricing is the minimum published online, a good relationship with a local dealer may yield better.

Yes, a quality 200ft. 32/8 drum will cost the same as two S16 and a CAT5, and for a fair comparison, adding a multipin on the mixer side we could easily have a couple of beers at every gig during the lifecycle of the kit
As for local dealers, mine is a thousand miles and two borders away. The norwegian distributor totally ignores the brand, to my knowledge provides no aftersale service and I'll probably have the mixer at my doorstep before the first unit is ever demoed here.

re: X32 Discussion

I ordered one last week.
Does anyone know of any dealers in the US selling cases for the X32? I havent been able to find one yet.

I will be releasing two versions of custom cases for the X32 once I get one. There will be a doghouse/touring version with wheels, etc, and a smaller non-doghouse, non-wheel version for more lightweight applications.

For the wheeled version, I'm thinking pocket wheels with a popout handle like luggage, if the size permits.

cool, any idea what the price range will be on those?

The pricing will be appropriate for their market segment, but I haven't really even begun to design them yet. Less than R&R pricing on a similar case, but more than the Chinese ones on eBay

Perhaps $375 for the basic case and $575 for the nicer one? Don't hold me to that.

re: X32 Discussion

Christian,
Does the MIDI I/O on the console pass through to the recording card, or is it just for desk control? ie, when using with a DAW, can I hook up Midi keyboards or drum modules to the X32 and it will route them to the DAW as any standard audio interface would do, or is a separate MIDI interface required for that scenario?

Hi Jeff,
by now Midi in/out is embedded in the the recording signal (FiWi or USB). So, if you like to control any DAW software, you can do that. Unfortunatelly the build in hardware Midi interface is not activated in the current firmware. There is a new firmware comming in the next days, maybe hardware midi is integrated then but don't count on that. The midi implementation itself is up and running in the console. I will ask the R&D guys about that.

re: X32 Discussion

Hi Christian,
this might have been addressed, but not certain? Can 2 or more x32 be linked together to give a larger channel count? Foe example 2 would give 64 channels and routing/patching to just one set of main outs.

I asked that some days ago, and they tought about it in a very early state of the development but buy now the idea is skipped!

re: X32 Discussion

Just wonder how many of you have on the basis of what has been discussed here
a: ordered one
b: seriously considering doing so
C: would never/not interested

If you include the other thread where Uli talks about Behringer history and all that they have accomplished over the years, I've gone from C to B. The only reason I'm not at A is because I want to see and feel an X32, not to mention hear one, before I buy. But I'm not currently looking at another manufacturer or model of digital console (I'd rather stick with the bands Soundcraft LX7). I'm also searching the internet every day, waiting for the X32 manual PDF to pop up.

Kind regards, Andrew

I have ordered one, waiting for price and delivery time on a S16 in Sweden.

Christian: Thank you for the test on Cat5 Cable. I'm gonne buy a decent Cable.
But it's always nice to know that it's easy to extend or replace during a job.

re: X32 Discussion

Hi Christian
for couple our events that would have been essential. Will have find a work around.
Won't be a deal breaker, just a inconvenience.
Thanks

I imagine you could assign the subgroups of the slave board to channels on the AES50, then inject those channels to corresponding subgroups on the master, just as you would on an analogue console, but skipping the AD - DA conversion you would have to do using physical outputs and inputs. Once the midi is implemented, you could probably let the master's DCA control the slave's DCA and perform som other integration tasks also.

I'm just watching with interest. We have two M7CL's and two LS9's at the casino where I work weekends, and the community theatre I'm a member of has a Mackie Onyx 24.4, a 1402VLZ, and a Behringer DDX3216 right now. I'd love to have an X32 in the main auditorium, but it's not in the budget. But I'm keeping an eye on the development, and may work on a fundraising plan next year to make one happen. We do host live music in addition to dramatic productions, and I've gotten kinda used to living on a digital mixer....

Unless someone here just wants to send me an early Christmas present....

Ordered one months ago as soon as they appeared on DV's website. So I hope to be one of the first to take delivery.
