Doesn't look like it yet, but maybe if we all ask nicely they can include a S16 mode in the firmware at some time??? Allthough I'd rather have the X32 be able to control the Rack as extra layers. Both would be nice :)~:)~:smile:

Per I was under the impression that you could? So while you can use it as a digital snake (connecting mic cables to the Rack then AES50 to the X32 Desk) you will have to set the Head Amps on the Rack by hand or via iPad or PC via xcontrol?

I noticed there wasn't much STP in there, but I'm going to leave interpretion to those who actually know this stuff.
I'm noting however that skew is generally very low compared to spec limits.
I also note that the Monoprice CAT5 must have been assembled wrong and I guess that is why it failed.

Only two STP were from Monoprice; as previously noted here, I'm heavily invested in UTP.

Monoprice is sending a replacement for the bad one, but I think it will arrive after the analyzer is gone. A field trip will be in order, I guess.

Two details to note about the measurements:

1) All measurements were done with the cable of interest connected in between the first two cables on the list through two Ethercon barrels, since most of the cables have Ethercon and the Fluke is not set up for that, so it was either take apart and replace a bunch of connectors or use the same adaptors for all. So the measurements all have the same amount of negative factors added in. (For the benefit of the uninitiated, using couplers inherently degrades these kinds of signals, to the point where they could make the difference between passing and failing. The Richland that was tightly wrapped around the pipe which barely failed could have been due to that. That measurement was done before I knew about the barrel's negative effects, so when I redo the measurements I'll do it without the barrels. The two Belden 200' connected end to end, even though beyond distance spec, only failed the Insertion loss margin by 1.4 db, so maybe that length would be usable minus two of the barrels and the short-ish jumpers.)

2) There seems to be a significantly tighter spec set for "Patch Cords" than there is for "Channels", and all these measurements were for "Channels". You can't have junctions/barrels to do a "Patch Cord" test, and the DTX senses and rejects those.

Sad news, we got the UPS, charged it overnight, plugged it in today, and within an hour we got the pop and feedback ramp. Sadly, our retailer won't take the UPS back.

Now I'm stumped, I feel like I'd like to try an online UPS, and hope for the best. My Associate is still pushing towards a good Voltage Regulator (like the Furman AR1215), pricey, especially since we're stuck with the UPS too...

Any thoughts?
Just to be sure: you seem to have a feedback issue with fx. Did you check that you are not sending the fx out returns to one of the fx input mixbusses? I explicitly muted the fx return sends to the fx mixbusses to prevent that I would do this accidentally with sends on faders enabled...

I'll be interested to hear the replies. I've just started to experiment with multi-track recording using USB. Currently I'm using a cheapie netbook, which actually seemed to keep up "fairly" well. I'm doing 13 channels to the computer no returns. On my playback, I also got some crackles, I haven't had time to investigate yet, but so far I'm thinking it's either: my netbook was pushed too hard (maybe CPU wasn't keeping up), or more likely, my levels were just a bit too hot. All my strong levels had compressors on them, but I'm not sure where the USB is getting it's line from, maybe pre-limiter/compressor? The main's were not getting any of the crackles for me.

Just to rule out the first option, what are your computer specs, did you see any 100% CPU spikes, how many tracks, what software?


Its not a hugly specced machine, 2.8Dual core (I think, cant remember that off the top of my head) 4Gb Ram running windows 7, its only used for live work, so its stripped back, fancy bits turned off.
I was literally just playing back some stereo tracks, tried various formats, on various software, namely, Cubase, Windows media player, VLC player and Multiplay (audio cue software)
Its not a level issue, the crackles were there regardless of audio level/dynamics of the track, CPU/memory usage normal.
 
reverb routing

Probably a really stupid question, but not found this yet.
Is there a way to route a DCA to reverb, basically, I have my radiomics routed through 2 DCAs, I want one to be "clean" for speech etc, and the other to by "wet" for the songs (if you havn't guessed, I work mainly with musical theatre)

Any pointers, Im getting lost in DCAs Vs MixBus etc, on analogue desks, the DCA was a buss, Ive never actually set up a digital desk before, only operated, geeze this makes me feel old :)

Short answer is "No". Think of DCA as a variable that is used to modify the gain of the signal wherever it is inserted. The signal isn't routed anywhere.
I just assign the reverb return to a DCA and pull it down for speech.

Not picking on you Tim. This is just a question that comes up many many times. And not just regarding the X32....

are you able to get power from a different outlet? Even if you have to use a very long power cable... I'm not that sure it's your power, allthough I know power isn't that good everywhere, compared to what we are used to.
Good question, I'll give it a go this weekend. However, the UPS did squeal when it's mains were unplugged, I just don't know if the X32 was turned during that time (might have been shut off).

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but I'd like to figure it out! I can tell you that the X32's universal outs, are a bit confusing. For example, the main outs are 15, 16, however, on the board, the effects channels are 13, 14, 15, 16... so right there, that's confusing. I guess the effects bus' is an internal bus, so it's safe.

How would I explicetely mute the fx return sends?

I know that this problem isn't exactly the same, it's changed a bit as we've been trying to trouble shoot. For example:
1 Dropping the mains' fader will always make the feedback go away
2 At first, dropping the effects bus' main faders would make the feedback go away
3 Then, 2 didn't work anymore, but dropping the aux sends to the FX bus' on each input channel made the feedback go away
4 Now none of the above (besides 1) seems to solve the problem.

TouchOSC Android with X32

So it looks like Hexler finally released the Android editor for TouchOSC, and me being an Android nut and impatient for the release of the Android app for the X32, I created a simple TouchOSC layout to control the faders on the X32 on an Android phone.

I won't speculate just now, but it would be helpful if you posted a scene file, then very often we don't have to speculate, but can pinpoint the problem.

I still don't believe that you have a power problem.

I would backup the x32, and restore to factory default.
Then connect some music, cd player whatever, and rout this to your main outputs.
adjust the analog out to have main on the desired xlr connectors, and just let it play... Don't touch anything else.

I wouldn't be surprised that some setting causes the feedback, after some input signal has reached a minimal level. Feedback does occur when loop gain is higher than 1, and in fase at some frequency. I expect that you send the output of the fx back into the fx input some way...
Sorry but your explanation makes me think you still have to learn a lot, not a problem but maybe the start of your problem.

If this test does perform without any problem, then I would reload the backup show, or better build it up from the start.
If you still have a problem, you better take it back to your reseller.

Good idea with the CD player, we'll try to run that test after this weekend. We're going to backup all our scene files this weekend, and get it ready, incase we need to swap it out. We'll run the test after we've backed it all up.

Indeed, don't think any desk I used had them either, just good ol mix bus :)

anyway, during rehearsal last night, found a workaround to the Xcontrol lag/freeze problem everyone seems to be having (including me)
It doesnt seem to do it if you go back to the "connect" page when its idle.
Not ideal, as I mainly wanted to use the Xcontrol to see the meters all the time, and navigate on the desk, but it does seem to stop it lagging and freezing up.
