60 Degree DIY Mid Hi - AKA PM60

Good afternoon all. Read through this entire post and am really excited i found it. I was looking to do a build using the 4593, and this more than fits the bill!

Seeing my forte is electrical, etc and my not so strong point is woodworking, can anyone help with making a flat pack for assembly or assembling a few unloaded boxes for my loading, finishing, etc?

This is a phenomenal build! Being familiar with the 3TX, I began a search for a DIY version, and I think this design meets and exceeds, so my hats off to the designers, contributors, and builders.

Hi Don, yeah, I bet you were out of sub big time !

What crank stand and main T-bar are those? Did you make the lower fly bars? How secure did they feel up there?

I just got a pair of ST-132 stands, and am thinking about trying to do what you've done......

Oh, and how was coverage? Thx !

Hi Mark,
Those are Global Truss DT3900L and DTLB3800.
The lower fly bars are made out of heavy wall rectangular aluminum. All hardware is rated.
All very stable for my use.

The coverage was really good, I didn't measure the size of the area but we had about 800 people and could have covered twice that with no trouble. Only with more subs that is :)~:-)~:smile:

It looks like my st-132 are as strong as the DT3900L, but just without the nicer crank mechanism. So I'm thinking I'll be ok to fly a pair with them.
What splay angle have you settled in on? And my I ask what flyware you used on the box?

The splay varies per gig. Depends on on wide the venue is.
I'll send you an email about the flyware.

Widening the cabinet for the XT1464 is what most of us did to some extent. I personally got creative so could keep the width down as much as possible, but the only issue I would see with your design is that you've recessed the horn behind the front lip of the cabinet. Not sure what that will do for the extremes of it, but it should be insignificant.

The 12" baffles are up to you. It just adds a small amount of internal volume and does't give you as convenient of a spot for the input connectors.

It's 2.6kg heavier than the RCF MB12N351. That's 5.2kg more per cabinet...
Furthermore, my experience is that the BMS runs out of power earlier than the 12"s. So, I don't see much use for the additional power handling. A single 12" with the BMS would break the nice, well chosen symmetric vertical dispersion / point source design of the DIY.

I would like to share that I have been working on two things with you all. I was hoping to have this finished before today, but the family isn't always conducive to my plans so this is what I've got.

Detailed, Accurate, and Convenient Working Drafts for PM60, PM90, and PM60/90 (PM69) Cabinets
I have been working on a good set of dimensioned, to scale drawings for my own purposes of this cabinet for over a year now. Currently, they are still in progress, but I have a completed section view attached for your pleasure below. I'd love to hear any thoughts on these, and will submit them to Peter for review before publishing, but once they are finalized they will have the following features:
  • Exactly to scale.
  • Section plates and detail plates easily usable as simple profiles for CAM pipelines.
  • Liberally dimensioned for cutting and assembly by hand.
  • A notes section in the title block describing the process I use for constructing each part and the final assembly both to guide you and to get critique on it for my personal growth.
All of this would be open to annotation and comment by the community, both as a DXF and PDF document. I personally work in 2D CAD for these drawings, mainly because it's what I'm familiar with. I would prefer to make changes to my public facing copy rather than the community littering the internet with every single version with various fixes.

Bennett, I ask now if you would prefer I make a separate thread for these and a changelog or if you would prefer to keep it in this thread. Personally I find it to be a pain in the ass to search through the two separate threads for all the various drawings, and would love to be able to present this as a final document. Maybe there is a better forum tool for you to use here. Let me know, either here, by PM, or at my email address.

Flat Pack and Complete Assembly
I have been working to create a method that makes construction of this cabinet simple, relatively quick, and cost effective. If you would like, I would be happy to provide quotes for flat packs of any of the models, as well as either partial or complete and show ready assemblies. This has to be taken on a case by case basis for me, as I will be busy with my university studies during the semesters, but I will do my best to provide the best service I can. General quotes to be posted later, general specifications include:
  • 15mm and 18mm B/BB Baltic Birch fastened with wood glue and brad nails or narrow crown staples.
  • Sealed with silicone and dampened with acoustic foam.
  • NL8 or NL4 connectors prewired with Faston.
  • Penn-Elcom handles, rubber feet, and pole mount.
  • Removable grille.
  • Black Duratex finish.
Shipping from 22003 responsibility of buyer, but I'm willing to work things out as needed.

The only thing that is currently out of the question for me to offer is any flyware or flying systems. I cannot bear this kind of liability and lack the experience and expertise to be liable. These modifications would have to be done at your own risk. That said, I would be willing to consider CNC routing any pockets into the cabinets for flying hardware if you so desire, again on a case by case basis.
