Behringer X32 Firmware v3.0 Feature Requests

Re: Behringer X32 Firmware v3.0 Feature Requests

Freely assignable inputs should be #1 on the list. Patching via bank of 8 is kinda dumb.

Here's a couple more that I would like to see after playing with 2.0 for a while.

When the desk is in gain share mode, it's not obvious where I should go to set channel gain. I would like to be able to hit the "setup" key and navigate to the preamps page, but then I want to be able to hit channel select buttons and have the focus put on to the proper gain knob. I detest the scrolling by banks of 4, then look at your channel, find the channel number, go back to the screen, find the right channel gain, then reach for the correct knob out of 4, but make sure the orange box is on the right bank of four, and adjust routine. I should be able to select a channel and twiddle a knob to adjust gain. Would make things so much faster.

In that same boat, it would be nice to just place preamp gain control on the regular knob on the master desk. It should be an option to switch between gain/digi trim anyway.

Other things I would like to see, are a regular old multiband compressor. Not one with auto make-up gain. And a Deesser that is freely tunable. If these could be on the channel dynamics instead of the rack it would be AWESOME.

Feature requests

I've been through the above thread, and looked at suggestions from others as to whether I would find them useful, then combined them with my own:

1) Mute group behaviour - I'd like (the option for) them to be non-latching, and mute-only (not allow unmute). A quick press of MuteGroup 1 mutes all those channels, but then remains unlit. These options would need to be configurable because one-size never fits-all. An alternative would be an Assign button to perform this non-latched mute.
2) Layer expansion - bring the Compact functionality to the Full.
3) Custom fader layers - hadn't thought about this, but agree with using Assign buttons to recall them. Essentially scenes containing rearranged channel orders.
4) Fader grouping - More than a pair of (adjacent) channels to be linked. DCA's should be used for those who want non-adjacent channels, but e.g. four overhead stage mics are likely to be adjacent channels on desk anyway.
5) Gains on fader - for initial setup - accessed through menus like GEQ on fader, with a 'Are you sure' popup, so can't be activated accidentally
6) External VGA/DVI monitor output (card slot?)
7) Post-fader meters on channels LEDs. The gain LEDS are pre-fader, so when setting up gain etc you can see the incoming level there. Use channel LEDs for post-fader.
8) Security/access levels. From the lock screen (Home for 3 seconds) each of the 6 encoders is a user (or more, with the layer buttons) - pressing one of those requires either numerical passcode entered (on the mute groups or channel selects), or password (entered with the text-edit features like naming channels) to switch user.

My scenario is mainly Church + Theatre in our own building, so they would work for our situation - some would be less applicable to hire units, weekend bands or techs who hire themselves out.

Only moderators and the original poster can edit. Shoot an email to David Karol with questions.

There was another sentence between the title and my first feature request, but I can't think of anything harmful in it at all. Just surprised, that's all.

Are you certain it was there after you posted? Usually the mods will send you an email if they edit or remove a post.

Re: Behringer X32 Firmware v3.0 Feature Requests

OK, I now have one more, very important imo, feature request.

Make the "dedicated" FX returns patchable from other sources on the desk! I loaded the combinator into one of the 4 FX slots that will take it (only available in slots 1-4). Now my dedicated FX return is showing the output of the combnator which I don't want or need. It would be great if I could patch those channels to the USB playback, or an aux in or just about anything else.

Tim, could you expand on that - I'm not sure I follow?

On the 3rd layer you have the stereo FX return channels. These are dedicated to the outputs of the 4 FX slots that can hold reverbs (FX1-4). I need a multiband comp in my setup. The only place you can patch the "Combinator" comp is in FX slots 1-4. I inserted my MBC on the main stereo bus, therefor I don't need an FX return for it. Unfortunately the output of the multiband comp still feeds to the Stereo effect return channels. It's eating up a pair of channels that I could use for something else.

This will happen anytime you insert any effect from slot 1-4 instead of using it as a send-return type setup. You insert the effect, but you still get audio back on the dedicated return.

I would rather patch an ipod or the USB playback there, but the fx returns are not patchable at all.

Re: Behringer X32 Firmware v3.0 Feature Requests

More flexible remaping of the aux ins, that means the same possibilites as on the for input routing slots. Also the possibility of remaping the local usb playback channels and the FX returns. This would give the us at least max. 48 channels frim 3 S16s for example.

Re: Behringer X32 Firmware v3.0 Feature Requests

V3 Requests;

1. The ability to control Tap Tempo via midi from an outboard controller (such as the FCB1010) for those of use that don't have an board engineer and no access while performing.
2. The Ability to use all 8 FX engines in any effect slot, currently 2 or 3 slots are always wasted for me due to insert limitations and/or too much routing involved to make effective use.
3. The Ability to Serial Chain Insert FX's so you can use more than one on a single insert routing
4. More options for X-USB Card routing tap points.

Re: Behringer X32 Firmware v3.0 Feature Requests

V3 requests,

1) remove input blocks of 8 (1:1 input to channel routing) or make input blocks programmable.
2) possibility to program a channel as stereo channel
3) aux remap input more flexibel in terms of routing possibillities. When possible 8 channels. USB player will not be used.
4) Effects of rack 5-8 the same as rack 1-4
5) possibility to link even with oneven channels i.e. 10 with 11

Re: Behringer X32 Firmware v3.0 Feature Requests

1.The usb record function works about 50% of the time. Half the time it leaves me with a file that's 0kb. This has been verified on more than one console.

Just a thought: have you checked your USB stick? We've had the same issue recently; it turned out that one of our (apparently identical) sticks couldn't sustain sufficient write speed.

Using this stick would occasionally result in 0kb files. Not really sure that this is the fault of the X32...

Re: Behringer X32 Firmware v3.0 Feature Requests

In amongst all these amazing feature requests, I have two comparatively dumb ones...

1. Is it possible to have more colour options on the scribble strips? Our installation might be weird, but we use colours to identify channels and groups that aren't in the list of choices (e.g. grey, brown, etc). If it's a hardware limitation, then we can live with the current colours, no problem.

2. When saving scenes on the desk to a slot, is there a reason why it defaults to the name of the currently loaded scene, rather than the current name in the slot? Maybe the current behaviour makes sense for most folk; for me it would be more logical to preserve the current name in the slot (like the iPad app does).

Trivial requests really; we love our X32 so much that we can't really complain about the current feature set, especially since the v2.0 update! :)~:-)~
