Listening Get Together

re: Listening Get Together

So I wrote this long post and the forum logged me out for inactivity and I lost it.
The 2x5's are fixed. Stupid mistake on my part when I calculated the cap. I have to ship them, but I have more under construction. I am running holm impulse until I have bucks for arta. Tell me what you want for settings and I will run it when I finish the new ones. Not posting another chart to be vilified for setup, so you tell me.

Yes it will all be there. Bring any test gear you want. Yes we did jump the gun on talk bass.
Leland,

Sorry for your post loss, hate it when that happens.

Obviously, using a smaller vertical scale and less smoothing as Ivan suggested in post #42 would make the 15 dB dip in response at 1K compared to 10K in your 2x5 that I noted in post #45 even easier to see.

Glad we could be of help in getting your 2x5 capacitor choice "fixed", though it would appear the response you posted would require more than a simple capacitor change to correct.

You thus far have not explained your "setup" in any detail, I don't recall any vilification of it, and don't know what you mean by "settings".

If you would like any testing or crossover alignment consultation out of the spotlight I'm available.

.... Akabak, (or Hornresp) which can create simulations very close to the actual cabinet response even with very complicated designs...

I just took a look at Akabak. It's a 16 bit app that doesn't run in Windows 7 64 bit. Has anyone successfully got it running using DOSBox or something else? (I've tried all the compatibility modes.)

Best,
Michael

Michael,
In this thread:
speaker measurement software windows 7 - diyAudio
bADkLOPFER says in post #5 that Akabak will run on Windows 7
"Only in Windows XP mode. Or on XP running in another Virtual Machine, i.e. VirtualBox."

Although I know Akabak can add more horn sections than Hornresp, I have never personally used it, and the only time I use a PC is to use Hornresp.
I'd suggest searching for more information on the Akabak or diyaudio.com site.

If you have not used either, I'd also suggest starting on the much easier to use Hornresp, and if you find you need more advanced detail, you can later directly import Hornresp scripts to Akabak.
In reality, either sim program will only take you so far (but much farther than most sim programs), you still have to build the real deal, accurately measure the prototype, and see where the deviations lie.

Both programs assume that each horn section can be treated as a discrete impedance, and the total response of the horn is the combination of these impedances in reaction with the driver. That is a very large assumption.

Right, simulations can get you in the ballpark, but they don't guarantee a home run, or even getting on base.

Hence the need to ACTUALLY MEASURE the cabinet.

Sometimes you have to scrap the cabinet and build another. You learn from the simulation. You look at the predicted performance-then you measure it. If there is a difference you try to figure out why the difference is there-and then try to figure out how to get the program to predict what you are actually measuring.

Then you have a better insight into what is really going on.

People need to remember that a prediction program is ONLY as good as the data that goes into it. Wrong data-will give wrong results. And even with good "data" there are a number of "gotchas" that will crop up and the "un accounted fors" will get you.

And then sometimes you get "lucky" and everything turns out the way you want it to the first time. But in most cases-something is going to need to be changed.

1: Why should we "like" a listing with no information on it?
Because if you "like" the page, then you get all of the information.
2: Why should we want to win a prize that we have neither seen nor heard?
Why not?
3: What are the rules;i.e. how is the winner to be chosen?
All of the information is right there on the page after you "like" it. It is also repeated under "Terms and Conditions".

re: Listening Get Together

Kind of pointless to post on here being that no one has heard the cabs yet.
However if you give me a free pair i will write a really great review first under the other guy in towns name and then if they turn out to really be good once i get them i will write another one in my own :)
Or you could send a demo pair to ga and we could have some measurements taken.

Kinda sounds like the pusherman-"Here try this"
"How much does it cost?"
"Don't worry-I'll tell you later-the first ones free"
"What does it do?"
"It's great-you'll see"
"Once I take it-I've already committed"
"YEAH-that's the idea"

re: Listening Get Together

I liked your facebook and it doesnt say anything that is factual. If you want any of us to "buy" into what you are selling you need to give some people speakers to demo and have them write a review on. I trust Ivan, But I would not listen to what he says about Danley speakers until I have heard them my self or a vast amount of people have heard them and wrote reviews on them why? because he is selling a product and you are always biased about your own products. Give some of those speakers to Evan, Silas or anyone that likes writing reviews and so they can use measuring tools, and solid ears to judge. until then you are going to get blasted on these boards.

Jack....

I think this whole thing falls under the heading "there is no bad publicity". IOW, any mention you get counts no matter whether it's appreciative or "you're a blithering idiot". To paraphrase a song title, "Smells Like Troll Spirit"...........

re: Listening Get Together

You guys are obviously missing the point.
IF you get a chance to hear any of the BigE speakers, wherever/however that may be, THEN you can write a review describing them and have a chance to win a pair.
It's really very simple.

Doug & Leland. With all due respect, I think you are missing the point. You're presenting what amounts to marketing "flim flam" on a forum with folks who design, measure and use real world gear every day in professional settings. Nothing I've seen in this thread has convinced me that you have an innovative or unique product. Or even a product that sounds useable. I've seen some marketing double speak advertising. No specs, no measurements, nothing concrete. I'm no designer or measurement expert. But I know when something smells bogus. I'm the kind of guy you need to convince and I'm not. Good luck with your venture in any case.

But we are not.

This whole thread is a trollish exercise in free publicity. Nobody from bigE has posted anything of substance and your whole "fan-boy" shilling for them is patently transparent. Here's the deal:

You, bigE or whoever, should supply stuff to get it reviewed/evaluated/measured, whatever. Simply posting repeated "Come on down!!!!" invites is just too "used-car-salesman".

This whole thing is a charade. There is no "point" to be missed. Get your head out of your bigA.

But without demo units going around how can those of us on this board have a chance to hear your product thus give it a real review.
It is really very simple i wont put my small but growing (slowly growing) reputation on the line for a product that is not proven and that i have not heard.

If you want to grow your buisness with a giveaway it is a great idea but dont only open it to people who are already on your bandwagon.
