Re: Mute Group Mechanical Protection

Two ideas come to mind:

--Rubber cement.

--Clear silicone caulk. I don't think that the edge is too small at all. Carefully mask the top of the plate and leave a tab so that you can easily pick up the masking tape. Carefully mask around the plate...

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the nice comments. The part that I'm worried about is caulk bleeding into the buttons, and there is really not enough space around them (especially the top corners) to either mask or clear out the dribblage. I have previously made this mistake, but years ago now.

Also, since Behringer seems to be replacing defective consoles, I don't want to do anything permanent before the warranty runs out. Then I'd have to make plates again.

Why not clear, double-sided tape? Comes in many strengths, some for permanent mounting and others that are easy to pry off.

That is a good idea, Per, but will increase my net cost from USD$0 to an actual number. :D~:-D~

I'll look around for that tape, though, as I have not been aware of clear double stick. I think it will be a nice solution.

Thanks,
Dan

PS I really like this forum software that lets you easily post multiple pictures anywhere in the post, and to easily quote and reply to multiple people instead of cutting and pasting or making way too many posts.

Re: X32

The quick answer is "no." The extended answer is that I came late to the party, so many of the early suggestions have been either implemented or rejected. DigiDesign absolutely does not rush firmware updates unless they are fixes to significant bugs.

Much of what people are asking of Behringer are already implemented in the DigiDesign VENUE software (meaningful password protection... not yet, damn it, and "decimal snapshot numbering" for theater is also not yet done), so I'm not sure you can make direct comparisons. Because VENUE is very, very closely tied to ProTools, any changes must be extensively tested before release; likewise if making changes for live use impairs, limits or breaks some feature in ProTools, you can bet they'll never get out of beta test. That said, AVID's main live guy (Robert Scovill -Rush, Tom Petty) indicates the next major upgrade will be huge. AVID spent a bunch of time working out the SC48Remote and Ethernet Snake Card so now that is out of the way I'd expect to see the "new" VENUE software and updated hardware sometime later this year, but have no inside info.

That's really nice to know there's companies that tend to the needs of their clients. And with Behringer at least we're getting a lot of these features without any extra cost and without a hefty cost for the console either. True we cannot do direct comparison. Digidesign SC48 at $28,555.00, truly at a different league.

Happy new year

Andre

Re: X32

This is my first visit here as i purchase X32 and 2 S16 and did some shows with it for last months. I am sound engineer for more then 20 year and mix on many consoles like Avid Sc48, Midas, Digico and Yamaha LS9/PM7.

The X32 is amazing, really amazing. Have you listen to the dynamics and effects specificaly reverbs? Wow!! They are much better then many exepensive consoles. You can hear midas sound. I cannot believe how Behringer can do for this price.
The X32 is now very popular in Europe and i see many of sound company buying this mixer.

Did you know that Uli is musician? I found this video and he play with famous Lee Ritenour!

The CX Review of the X32 does mention him composing an opus on his Steinway piano in his mansion overlooking the South China sea. Then again, there were a few other extavagant liberties taken in that article. I certainly did not know such music talent lay beneath the technical genius...

Happy New Year all!!

Re: Scene protection

But "safe" and "protected" are different things, almost opposite really, aren't they?
If they were the same, you would not hear all the whining from me!

Mick Berg.

I don't get the "almost opposite". While "protected" in the physical sense might imply some kind of "barrier" or "shield" protecting something, and "safe" can mean that something is just out of harm's way while not necessarily being guarded by any "protection", I can't see how they are in any way "opposite".

I do however agree that there is very little in the form of what I would call flexible protection, and I'm still struggling to get a good grip on the working method needed to utilize the scene managment in the best way (a way that keeps me from screwing up, basically).

I do understand the usefullness of read-only scenes, or write protected scenes, I get the concept of locked parameters, at least to me a locked parameter would be a parameter that couldn't be changed neither by scene change or by adjustment on the console (without a password).

If we end up with a 88 channel x 36 parameter x 100 scene tri-state matrix to manage it all, will we be able to?

Re: Tap Delay weirdness?

John, I have found the same problem. Barely useful at best. I almost think about bringing one of my Lexicons for just this purpose. Anyone at Behringer have a comment about this?

Re: Recording via FiWi.

Happy New Year Jan, I can give you a few bits of info. I am currently using a macbook pro, 2.66 ghz, 8 gig of ram, and last night I recorded 26 tracks via the usb port to an external firewire 800 drive. No problems. I was also using Protools 10 for the software. If you don't know, Protools suggest that one use an external drive for saving the audio data. I have been recording with macs for 6 years and almost never have a problem. I would say no matter what DAW you use, you should not have a problem getting good results with a mac. Of course, this is just my opinion so others may not agree with me but I love my macs because they just seem to work all the time. (I am still using a 6 year old macbook g4 with protools on it) You may also want to watch one of the webinars that features the DAW that you are using whether it be Protools, Reaper, Sonar, or a host of others. Best of luck to you.

Re: Mute Group Mechanical Protection

You can try a double sided tape. It comes in a variety of thickness's and would do a great job. Nice idea also.

Cat5 vs. Cat6 for S16 ?

Any reason to not use Cat6 for the S16 ?

I'm looking at the Eurocable multi-signal cable products available from Link.

http://linkusa-inc.com/DesktopModul...Download&EntryId=52&language=en-US&PortalId=0

The LKSPKAL 12/3 U2A2 is appealing since it contains both power and Cat5 plus a pair that could be used for DMX.

However, having the 12/3 power also increases bulk. I plan on needing no more than 50 meters ... so that's about a ±3 volt drop over the 12/3 power cable.

The LK2Cat6 AD2 is similar but with Cat6 and no power ... somewhat lighter.

Suggestions ... ?

Thanks

Happy New Year all!!

I actually saw that video a while back. I figured that explained many of the cool things he is doing...........he is one of us.

Cost? Weight? Bulk? It'll work fine but it's overkill as far as the signal transmission properties are concerned

Re: Cat5 vs. Cat6 for S16 ?

They have some nice products. I'm looking for a pre-built multi-cable, either cat-5 or cat-6 plus digital that I can use to connect the x32 to the s-16 stageboxes, plus directly to my Crown I-tech amps digitally......

Re: Mute Group Mechanical Protection

although the actual product is gray, the Scotch exterior double sided tape (red label) works fantastic in some applications I use... and it will not come loose.

I would suggest using a hole punch and cut out four small circles and install on the corners of the shield, then press firmly onto the unit... important: wipe the area on the unit with alcohol and let dry before installing. I would suggest also on the lexan side, but I've had bad experiences with alcohol and plexi / lexan, it tends to cloud or crack. I'd try some on a scrap piece first.

You can actually buy rolls of "glue dots" from craft stores, and they come in both permanent and removable, in a variety of sizes. Thing is, they're like rolls of 300, so you should have plenty. ;)
