X32 Discussion

Re: New presonus console

Looks like it got 14 auxes + the 4 fx.

I wonder what they will use all that extra processing power for? It can't be for the fx?,

From a tech perspective, the "extra power" is just "the processor we could buy". They won't have included it specifically for anything.

Although 4 FX buses and non-motorised scene-recall - you need some mighty powerful computers to run those ;)

Hmmm, with the avb-ethernet you could possibly link several mixers extending it to many more channels.

This also means multi-channel recording over ethernet. If they've done it then that's a pretty good thing.

Where you have to recall your scenes manually because of the non motorized faders?:)~:-)~

This would require a proper ASIO driver, but maybe their German S1 software team can help them out on this. In addition I think the AVB stuff might be a happy omen for a digital stagebox to come.
Otherwise this mixer would be pretty much born dead, or is there anybody out there, who enjoys to carry an analog copper monster 32/14 around in 2013?

Re: X32 Discussion

So, I was loading some scenes via XiControl 2, and noticed out of the corner of my eye that there was a confirmation pop-up on the X32 screen that read "Media Full" <<Cancel | OK>> . It doesn't seem to have effected the scene load itself, and I didn't get any errors on the iPad. Anyone else run into this?

Re: Ipad wireless connection

I originally had the WRT54g, and could not maintain a stable connection. I purchased a Cisco 2500 in September and the connect hasn't dropped once.

I REALLY apologize but I am totally confused. How do I set the router up to the proper settings? I plug my WRT54g into my studio computer and it asks for external and internal port #'s? What are these and how should they be set? Is there a way to tell if the router is working? Static or dynamic settings? It shows up on my PC but fails to connect. When hooked to the x32 the iPad says it is connected to the router but won't maintain a stable connection. Any detailed help would be appreciated.

I personally use DHCP and let the router assign addresses, my Netgear WNR2000 is racked up and dedicated to remote control, I let the console boot up and navigate to the Network page and note the address that is assigned to the console, punch that into my Lenovo tablet for local control of the console and also into an iPad 2 for remote control. I've never had any issues getting, or maintaining, a connection with the console. Have you tried other router brands/models?

Other things I have done for peace of mind include hiding the SSID from being broadcast, and setting the router to operate on a non-default channel.

Re: Ipad wireless connection

JUST realized that my iPad bluetooth was turned on. Switched it off and have been connected for over 1/2 hour even through walls and steel doors.

Re: New presonus console

One second per fader and 128 channels - That is only two minutes per scene change :-)

I hate having to do that with 12 channels. Although in reality it doesn't take long, I'd be extremely annoyed if I had to do that to 128 channels. By about channel 50 I'd probably shoot myself.

That new SL 32 channel makes me laugh. I don't think they learned much from the x32. If they want that line to survive they need to completely revamp it. Ditch that horrible workflow it has, get some usable FX, and add a nice color screen. Those are just a few improvements.

Yeah, I think that the fader concept was good for a 16-channel mixer. For 24-channels it was a stretch but manageble.

But with 32-channels and counting - Not my cup of tea.

What I can't get out of my mind is how they think that 4-busses is enough for at 32-ch console, unless they are at least stereo...
