i-device with USB

Has anyone tried using their iPhone/iPod/iPad cable directly into the USB port on top of the X32? My wife's car lets me do this via the sync/charge cable and I wonder if we can play properly formatted tunes straight from iTunes on these consoles. For that matter, I guess it could work with any other device that carries audio over the USB. My console is in storage temporarily while I am moving and can't test for myself....

Nope, doesn't work.

The x32 is picky so even an usb-stick going via an usb-hub fails.

Re: i-device with USB

Weird, haven't tried that one, but it will run a cheap LED lamp quite happily.

That said, iPads demand a lot more power than most USB devices. A lot of my older Apple chargers/leads no longer charge my iPad.
A led lamp draws about 20-500mA depending on flavor.

Normal usb power is limited to 0.5A but the iPhone charger is rated 1A and the iPad charger is rated 2A.

Charging my iPad with the iPhone charger takes forever...

Recording separate tracks to DAW software

Wow! I wish this was categorized a little better. Nonetheless! Does anyone have an idea why I can not separate the tracks coming out of the X32 going to REAPER and I even tried the X32 with Presonus Studio One Producer. Everything seems to go through track #1 on both of the software programs. I figured out a way to get let's say the guitar through track #6 but it also comes through track #1. I just can not seem to do individual tracks without them "bleeding" over into other tracks. I've mess with the routing and configuration on the X32 but I must be doing something wrong or just not seeing the problem. I've also checked out both software programs and they appear to be configured correct (I think).

If anybody has any idea what I'm doing wrong, PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE help me get there from here. I bought the X32 about 2 weeks ago and have pulled out most of my hair trying to figure it out. Especially the issue previously mentioned above. All I want to do is be able to record 8 separate tracks to my software program. This is a very nice board. A lot more features than I ever imagined. I'm a little out of my element but maybe one of you experts can point me in the right direction.

I think this is my first post here as I read somewhere that you can get better support here than on Behringer own X32 forum (hmmm.....) Please help if you can find the time. If you prefer to PM me my email is:

Hope I did not breach any protocol with this post. If so, I am very sorry. Thanks for your time and have a good weekend.

Cheers,

Mj

Re: X32 Discussion

Sorry about the LED Lamps XLR 4 heading on my question above. I did not realize the heading was being carried over. My question has to do with recording individual tracks to DAW software.

Thanks,

Mj

I fixed the original. Sorry for any problems.

Mj,

I'm guessing that you haven't set up the routing matrix on Reaper correctly.

You might also check the video from the X32/Reaper Webinar for ideas:

Re: Recording separate tracks to DAW software

Steve,

I've checked out the Webinar but did not get much out of it. Kind of fades in an out. I wish Behringer would redo it with better sound. Nonetheless, any hints on what I might be doing wrong would be greatly appreciated. I think I did the routing matrix right on Reaper. I switched over to Studio and have a similar problem. This is driving me nuts. I would like to do a recording this weekend with my whole band playing at the same time (kind of a live promo disc). But for some frickin reason, I just can not get the tracks to work correctly. This should not be this difficult. Thanks for your time.

Cheers,

Mj

Having the same problem both in s1 and reaper suggests that some configuration has been done on the x32 that makes this problem.

Do the initalize console in setup menu. Do not recall any saved scene but start over.

This will reset all routing in the console to a good state.

Re: Recording separate tracks to DAW software

Robert,

Thanks for the response and your time. I'm less than a noob on the X32 so I'm not exactly sure what I need to do. Do you have a step by step I can follow so I do not do anything stupider that I have obviously done. Thanks again. This is a great forum and people are willing to help. It is greatly appreciated. Hopefully I'll be able to give back some day.

Cheers,

Mj

Press the setup button on the console. Navigate to the config tab and locate initialization in the lower left corner and choose 'console'.

This will reset the current scene data in memory to a clean state. Think of it as a clean paper with some guide tracks drawn for you. When you do this all 1~32 inputs are routed 1:1 to the asio by default.

In s1 make sure that you select the correct asio driver and start mapping the input channels.

Now you have two alternatives for daw output.

Either you bring back the audio via the master fader in s1. I suggest you bring back the audio via the aux input. To do this you go routing->home. Set aux in 1-4 to card 1-4. This leaves you with all 32 channels free for recording while monitoring on the aux input.

The other setup is slightly more complicated where you bring back all audio into the x32 for in-the-box mixing. Go to routing->home->utility and choose card playback. This will disable the analog inputs and replace that with the audio from your daw. Don't forget to setup output routing in s1 as well.

There are some other variants as well but this should serve as a starting point until you get comfortable.

Re: Recording separate tracks to DAW software

Robert,

Thank you sir! I'll give this a try as soon as I can get to the X32. I do appreciate your time.

Cheers,

Re: Recording separate tracks to DAW software

I tried recording from the X32 into Reaper for the first time tonight using my MBP, it was as easy as choosing the XUF device in reaper then creating tracks and selecting the proper inputs. No configuration required on the X32 to get audio into Reaper, getting audio back into the X32 to listen to afterwards was as simple as selecting the card inputs (and configuring hardware sends in Reaper).

Re: Recording separate tracks to DAW software

I have not had any problems recording to reaper but did have initial problems playing back with everything coming in on tracks 1 & 2 as well as the individual tracks - cause was the master track in reaper - you need to alter the routing in reaper to disable the routing to this/ not route it for playback. One thought - though if you got something on track 6 as well maybe not - but have you selected the asio Behringer driver in reaper and selected the first and last tracks for I/O ( presume you have). Overall though setting up the X32 to record to reaper was a breeze - especially at the X32 end.

X32 Feature Requests

Dear all,

we have now come back from an amazing 2013 Namm show where we launched 28 new products which received incredibly positive feedback. The X32 Series and our new iQ speakers got so much attention that the booth was often so packed, that people could not reach the products.
We were also very honored to have Stevie Wonder at our booth who spent an hour with our product specialists checking out the X32.

http://www.behringer.com/news/namm-2013-stevie-wonder-visits-the-behringer-booth/

Among the many accolades we were awarded the coveted Reader’s Choice Award by ProSoundWeb.com, recognized as a finalist for a TEC Award and even received the “Best in Show” Award from Pro Sound News and Pro Audio Review for the new X32 Series.

We Like to Have Your Feedback for the Upcoming 2.0 Upgrade

Today I am reaching out to you as we are in the process of defining the specifications for the new 2.0 software upgrade that we plan to roll out later this year. We would like to get your feedback to understand what features you like to see in the new upgrade.

Aside from a dedicated and assignable Smaart-like analyzer, we are planning the inclusion of high-end FX “plug-ins” based on physical modeling of classic audio hardware. Our algorithm development engineers are essentially “rebuilding” classics from Neve, SSL, Urei, Pultec and others into effects that will be included on the X32.
Well-known and loved gear such as the LA-2A compressor, Lexicon reverbs and even a multi-band compressor are on our list. The FX "Plug Ins" alone represent a value worth several thousands of dollars if you would buy the actual hardware.

We are also working on some pretty amazing pitch shifting and pitch correction tools for the X32. Imagine pitch correction on every console and the power of what that will allow you to do in a live or recording environment. The best part is that these effects will be made available as part of our firmware updates and hence will be free of charge to X32 owners!

Please leave comments here but also on our forum where we have a dedicated topic. (www.behringer.com/forum)

As mentioned earlier, the X32 is a living platform for constant expansion and improvement. The 2.0 Upgrade however will take the X32 Series to a complete new level and provide you again with unprecedented value.

Warm regards

Uli

Re: X32 Feature Requests

Thanks for the update - it all sounds really great .
Can I also make a plea for the further development of the Xcontrol SW - especially considering the introduction of the Rack and Core X32 versions - particularly to allow the Xcontrol to take full advantage of Windows 8 .
I was also wondering - (but maybe asking for too much here!) whether the Xcontrol/similar interface with the X32 could be enhanced to implement dynamic automation for mixing on the console - by allowing recording dynamic settings ( fader movements etc) and the play back of these in time sync with recordings made to a DAW / other recording media.
