X32 Discussion

Re: X32 Discussion

Hi Karl,

I've not updated my X32 yet. I think it's still running v1.12 or v1.13. I'd be very interested in any further updates you might be willing to post on this issue, if you plan on doing any testing. :)

For the record, I would suspect the XUF card firmware update before the X32 firmware update. I say this because there will be plenty of people that have upgraded the desk firmware but not so many that have upgraded the XUF card firmware and I'm not seeing many people logging issues with v1.15 and recording via the XUF card. I wonder if it's possible to roll back the firmware on the XUF card? Is there even a download for the older firmware?

Makes sense?

Not quite a firmware update question, but does anyone know if newer shipments of X32 with square fader caps have different faders as well, or just the caps? I really like these, my X32 has older oval caps. I wonder if caps are interchangeable, if so I'd replace them all. Unfortunately I don't have a newer X32 to try to swap the caps.

Also, who makes these motorized faders? Alps or Behringer?

the fader capa are interchangeable - just do it carefully - I have Midas pro on mine ... looks cool!

Re: X32 Discussion

Thanks, Nick. You mean fader caps, not the actual faders, correct? And MIDAS caps are the black ones?

I know they are sensitive. Friend of mine broke a fader on a Profile desk trying to replace a cap, these are ALps faders.

yep the caps - the Midas pro ones are not the black ones I think you are referring to unless they have changed them ( Mine are blue ones and red ones and smaller than those on the x32- I am sure someone who had done the same posted a picture)
If you were to change them you just need to be careful and not apply any downward pressure - no more difficult and the same if a fader cap accidently came off & you need to put it back on!

X32 for Pro Tools DAW control

Hey everyone,

Well I've been looking at YouTube videos and webinars and forums trying to find an answer, but nothing yet, so I turn to you folks. I use a 2007 Macbook Pro, running OSX 10.5 Leopard, with Pro Tools LE 8. I know I'm in dire need to upgrade, and that time will come, but not yet. For a while now I've been using the BCF2000 to mix down live recordings, and it works great, but I've owned the full X32 for over a year and just recently picked up the Compact, and I decided I would finally try to get them to talk to Pro Tools over HUI.

I've tried this in the past but never got it working and gave up. I set the X32 to HUI protocol, Interface is Card MIDI, and I've tried selecting both MIDI IN/OUT and Card MIDI and it doesn't work. Just like with my BCF2000 (which works no problem) I got into Peripherals in PT, MIDI Controllers, type to HUI, Receive and Send with "X_F, MIDI" and still nothing.

Is there a known issue where PT 8 is just too old to work with these mixers? It's not overly difficult to setup so I wonder what the problem is. Thanks for any help.

Chris

Re: X32 for Pro Tools DAW control

IIRC, ProTools prior to v9 required a connection to a piece of DigiDesign hardware in order to work.

Not a recording guy, so I could be wrong...

Thanks Tim. I have my 003R connected, since that is essentially my "iLok" to open LE. There doesn't seem to be a limitation as to peripherals, as the BCF2000 has worked without issue. My next thought was to instead run a MIDI cable from the X32 into the 003, but last I tried to do that with the BCF, I couldn't get that to work either. So it's kinda strange.

I don't really need to get this to work, as the BCF is a much better fit on my desk than even the Compact. The two things that are alluring to me are to have scribble strips, and far smoother/quieter motors for the faders. As good as the BCF is for the money, everyone knows the faders are clattery and noisy as hell.

I had the original fader caps on mine also, but liked the new square ones better. I emailed the Music Group and they called back the next day so that I could order the new ones. It came out to 46 cents per fader cap. So $11.50 for 25 of the new style fader caps plus $11.25 for shipping.

Re: strange or not strange!

My desire is to use a spectrum analyser purely as a visual tool and keep the process manual. It would be highly useful if I could call up the display from the measurement mic during a live show (minus the pink noise obviously) and / or route SOLO to the frequency display.

This works great on my iPhone or iPad. Smaart® Tools | Studio Six Digital

Obviously the larger screen on the iPad is more useful, but the iPhone comes in handy in a pinch (or when I'm at a concert and want to verify I really am hearing that crappy sound I shouldn't be hearing). One of the other volunteers at my church picked up an external interface that works with the iPad - he patched it in to a monitor bus and now he can solo a channel on the SMAART - very cool.

Did you press the remote button to activate the remote layer? If the BCF2000 works with Pro Tools 8 then the X32 should also work. If you see the X_F card in your device list it is connected okay. Maybe something with midi channels? I tried the X32 and the BCF2000 both with Pro Tools 9 and i worked without any problems.

Yeah I activated the Remote button and engaged it. I can literally unplug the X32 (either my full or compact) and plug in the BCF and it works. Since both my X32's don't work, I don't believe it's them. Also a friend of mine came over when I first picked up the X32 and he had it controlling Logic in seconds. I'm thinking it must have something to do with OSX 10.5. I'm just baffled.

Re: X32 scene help needed

Can someone create a "sticky" on how to upload a scene for review. Feeling extra stupid this morning.
You can't attach one to a forum post. Allowed file extensions are bmp, doc, docx, gif, jpe, jpg, pdf, png, txt, xls.

But to attach an allowed file, click on Reply with Quote, lower right of the message pane. Then find "Go Advanced" and click on it. Below the reply box there will be a pane with Additional Options. Click on the Manage Attachments radio button. A pop up window will open with forum's file manager. You can upload multiple files, but in you don't use them within an hour they will be deleted. Once used, the forum maintains a gallery of your images and they can be attached to other messages by drag and drop within the manager. That's how I attached the Far Side cartoon... it's in my gallery.

In the alternative, you can upload your files to almost any sharing site and post the URL here.

Have fun, good luck.

Tim Mc

Not tried the (right!) USB connector?

Noise (sine wave) in headphones & aux in

First post here!
Let me introduce myself: I work as freelance sound engineer in Italy, since june owner of an X32 console.

I can say I used almost all (if not *all*) the digital consoles on the market, and I have to say I'm astonished by the X32 value/price ratio! That's why I purchased my unit: I use often the rental company's or production desk, but I needed a quicker and more live-oriented mixer than my 01v96VCM as personal console for particular productions/venues.

Sadly, friday I was using my X32 with a d&b Q7 PA system (I was tuning the PA) and noticed a strange noise, similar to a high pitched sine wave. In few seconds I realized it was the unbalanced RCA aux in 5-6. Every other mic input is perfect, every other aux input is affected by this problem!
So I dedicated my sunday (yesterday) to investigate the problem, reading *every* post on this thread (quite an impressive effort!!) and experimenting a little bit with the desk.

This is what I know:
1) I have a 5.200hz sine wave on aux 1-6 & headphones out. Soloing an aux build up the noise, reversing soloed aux phase cancel the sine wave (it means for me same interference on both aux input & headphones output);
2) When LED brightness is set *under* 80% another 500hz sine is added in above mentioned channels (with brightness over 80 nothing);
3) Points 1&2 seem to me to have more than something in common with "16&32 channels noise" and "monitor noise", so I'm confident that they can be fixed with an internal cables rerouting.

This is what I did:
1) Tried to register my desk on Behringer's website, but is seems that almost every support-related function is temporarily not working;
2) I found on Behringer's UK facebook page that they have issues with their asian servers due to the weather;
3) I wrote to an authorized Support Center in Italy. The tech I spoke to confirmed me the probability of a simple internal rerouting fix and gave me an email address to ask for an RMA number;
4) I wrote asking for this RMA number;
5) I had today a contact to provide proof of purchase and some other data to arrange RMA.

This is what I think:
1) I saw early production defects in many products all around the world, so this isn't nothing new;
2) As long as I have a response so quickly (first request on sunday afternoon, first answer monday morning) I have absolutely nothing to complain about support.

So, this far, thumbs up for Behringer for this awesome product and this big effort in offering such a quick support.

Regards,
Francesco Lanzingher

Well, troubleshooting is basically the same, you just have to look in new & different places. ;)

Do the earset mics sound good when PFL'd over headphones? How about the center bus, what do you hear in headphones?

I don't have a way to check your file right now, perhaps Joe or Chase from Behringer or some of our users like Per can help.
