X32 Discussion

Re: Core

The BCR...well this might work too, dunno:-) But the BCF can work on all X32 faders as well also on the DCA faders!
Now that it is officially confirmed by the Behringer guys, I hope that Uli don't mind that I'm posting this (takes some time to load)-->

Nice!

I'm curious about one thing. When I've looked at the bcr/bcf docs I haven't seen anything about being mackie compatible. According to your video mackie mcu is the way to go...

Is the bcr/bcf mcu compatible as standard?

I setup my BCF in Mackie Emulation Mode (you can see that in the BCF Display). Technically it is in deed possible, to implement more than simple Fader rides, Mute&Solo (like on the BCF) with a full blown Mackie Control unit. With the Mackie Control, you could even manipulate EQs and other things from your X32. But only if the Behringer guys find the time, to Midi code all that functions. So I have no clue, how far the Mackie implemantation will be. On the other hand... a full blown Mackie controller+ a X32Rack or Core should have a similar price point like a X32Compact. So I don't see such a big market for that. The BCF2000 is a different beast. This thing is a real no brainer pricewise, and a X32Rack/Core + old Laptop +BCF2000 (connected to the eight DCA faders) is a cheap, compact and yet powerfull comination for smaller club gigs with real fader access. Really flexible...

Questions...sorry, newbie

We had an X32 for monitors last weekend, the monitor guy owns one and used it...
Some questions came up :
1. Can we dump a full show with the X32-Edit software ? It seems that the individual presets have to be saved to XControl first... ?
2. Is it true that only the X32 has AES/EBU output ?
3. With an S16, can the Adat outs be used for mixbus- / subgroup- / main output ?

I need some sort of digital out and would like to go the X32 core / rack route

Thanks for answers

Klaus

The simple answer to all your questions is "Yes".

1. You can dump a full show with export show, but as you rightly observe, the presets have to be saved one by one, you can not export the whole library and it will not be exported along with the show. The show in which you used the presets will of course be intact, as presets are not reloaded into the channels where presets were used, the actual settings of the channel are stored.

2. Yes, that is true as far as I know.

3. The ADAT outs will in default mode output AES50A channels 17-32 but can have other configurations. As long as you send your outputs to the right AES50A channels, you are good to go with a ADAT to AES interface hooked up to the S16

Klaus

Dear Klaus,
The AES/EBU output is also included on the X32 COMPACT, in addition to the X32, but is not included on the other models.

Regarding expansion cards, as Uli has announced earlier in the thread we are working on cards for ADAT, Dante, and MADI.

Re: Questions...sorry, newbie

Thank you Per for fast reply ;-)

Maybe the X32 line gets new interfacing cards...like Adat i/o ?
Anyone knows more ?

Best

Klaus
adat, madi and dante support is announced a couple of weeks ago.

About the aes - In their speaker processor one xlr serves both as an analog and digital input (not at the same time). Perhaps the core/rack does the same?

Ahh, some googeling told me that mackie emulation came in a later firmware. The manual did not reflect this information...

Re: Core

My X32 Core was delivered today. I hooked it up, and checked it out. Everything seems to be working ok. I couldn't enable Talkback B from X32 Edit, but it's ok with the iPad software. I have a gig tonight, and am debating whether to leave the X32 in the truck, and just set up the Core.

Flawless gig last night with the X32 Core, although club regulars thought I had downgraded my system (the X32 attracts a lot of attention). I did occasionally miss mixing on real faders, so I'll order a BCF2000 as soon as X32 Edit supports it. I set up the assignable encoders to adjust the reverb and delay DCA, and then two of the assignable buttons for tap delay and effects mute. The headphone amplifier seems louder on the Core. I debated adding the Core to one of my S16 racks on the stage but opted to have it FOH so I could use the talkback and headphone connections. Wireless mic and headphones may eliminate the need to run a snake, although running the ethernet cable may be easier than setting up the extra wireless gear. The X32 Core is a great addition to my setup, especially at venues that don't provide a great FOH location, but also as a backup mixer, if needed (although I've been running the X32 for over a year with no issues).

Re: noticed another discrepancy between readings on desk and X32 Edit software

Dear Axel,

Firmware 1.15 added +18dB/-18dB trim. We will be releasing a new version of X32-Edit that will update any changes made in firmware 1.15.
This should be available by the end of this month.

Joe,

There have been a few recent posts that mentioned experiencing "instability" in the multitrack recording link to computer after updating the XUF firmware to v 1.5. I believe that you had sent someone a link to pull the previous firmware version. Am I mistaken on this? If not, is there any more info available?

BTW, new forum member here, have an x32 and s16 enroute. been reading through this thread (for the last few days). Have had an SL24 for a few years now. Happy with it but x32 spec's are darn impressive. Held off getting one for awhile...you know the story....but I have to admit I've been impressed with the relative lack of user reported problems with the desk as well as the involvement and responsiveness of the Berhinger folks on this forum.

Looking forward to getting the x32...have a series of jazz concerts I do every year and I'm looking to use the x32 for this years series.

Re: X32-Edit and 15" touchscreen

The screen resolution of a 15" touchscreen attached to a Mac Mini makes it impossible to drag a fader to 'zero' ( down ) with the pointer,
since the mouse / pointer is attached to the bottom of the fader...

......

Maybe I'm overlooking something ?
Thanks for help
and best regards

Klaus

Hello from Finland

I checked with MacTracker, that even the first Mini supports 1080 vertical resolution - newer models even more - moving dock to side ( as I do with macbook - 1280x800) gives all necessary space for X-control. So your MacMini or X-control are not to blame, but the resolution on your screen - try different settings on your screen.

My touchscreens have 1024x768, so the tight fit of the X32-Edit window is a must...

I tried with SwitchResX4, and all of a sudden, the X32-Edit window is higher up on screen, actually the top bar of the X32-Edit window with the minimize buttons is now covered by the Macs menu bar, but therefore the bottom of the window where the fader - zero position is, is now accessible with the pointer

Sure an 'Apple' thing, like many other Apple windowserver issues, not ?

Thanks anyway for reply

Klaus

Karl, you need to go to your profile and change your displayed name to your real first and last names or the mods will delete your post.

Re: Recording with x32

Dear Guys,

Please use the following link to dowload the new X32-Edit app.
Please make sure you are at firmware 1.15 when using this new version of X32-Edit.

MUSIC Group: Temporary Downloads Page

New Features:
• X32-Edit 1.20 can be extensively remote controlled via Mackie Control Universal or compatible
control surfaces
• Consequently, the console directly controlled by X32-Edit 1.20 can also be remote controlled
from another X32 surface by engaging its DAW Remote function
• USB Recorder tracklist can now be displayed remotely, and the general performance has been
improved

X32-Edit 1.20

I noticed a new feature that has gone unmentioned. The X32-Edit now sends the button beats as midi notes.

So now the X32 can be used as a 70s sequencer among other things, I have quite a good groove going in my headphones now. 8)~8-)~

EDIT: I realize now that the midi notes are the controller data going back to the Mackie control and not any feature for controlling external effects, which was my initial thought. Still, with these midi notes being sent out like that it is possible to utilize them in different ways.
