X32 Discussion

Re: Consolidated view, or printout, showing overall console configuration? Manual?

Wondering if there's something similar for the X32? If there isn't something like this "in the box", is there some way to do this using the XControl/X32 edit software? From a PC, running the editor software, it would seem that it should be pretty easy to do this.
Check out the Scene Manager. No graphical routing, but a listing of the routing can be generated.

Lastly, Does anyone know where a full PDF manual can be found? I've looked through all the downloads on the x32 page/Berhinger site. Saw the engineers manual etc... but I'm looking for something that gives more detailed explanation of many of the individual parameters on the different pages.

****Edit**** nevermind, found the users manual ( http://www.behringer.com/assets/X32_M_EN.pdf ). Odd that it's not on the X32 Documentation/Downloads page.
It is on the product page, in a scroll window just below the buy now/dealers box on the left. Don't know if it works right now, but newest version should reside there along with the quick start guide.

Re: Interface cards

It is a bit frustrating that Behringer are not very forthcoming with information about what cards are likely to be shipped with what models ...

Sorry Per,

I wasn't quite aware about information gaps with regards to the cards, but you are right asking. I can confirm that all X32 expansion cards can be used in all of the X32 models.

The X32 CORE, X32 RACK and X32 PRODUCER are all in production and ship with X-USB cards exclusively.

For X32 and X32 COMPACT the situation is a bit more complicated, as both started to ship with X-UF cards and we are in a transition period. Any upcoming production procurement for both will employ X-USB cards already.

X-USB and X-UF cards can now be ordered by our distribution partners, and it will depend on retailer forecasts which quantities will eventually become available on the regional markets. For obvious reasons the X-UF card supply will be limited, however.

Best,
Jan

Re: Interface cards - Airport Extreme

That rig of three iPads is very impressive - not very portable though, unless you provide some carrying device - like the tray they use in sport events, when selling yucky stuff to observers...

Hi Timo,

Glad you enjoyed seeing it, but not sure what you mean by "not very portable".

The whole business travels in a Gator 1813 case

IMG_1875.jpg

with a yardstick for reference.

When opened

IMG_1876.jpg

The various bits are inside: stands and AC cords on top, iPads stacked on the left below, an Ethafoam spacer and Monoprice chargers (not visible) on the right. If you've seen my other pictures of two iPads in use on the doghouse of a Gator X32 case, you've seen some clamps holding the stands to the case. Those are in there, too. In the pic of the three iPad and no mixer setup, the stands were on a couple of speaker cases with no opportunity to clamp, so I used a couple of Atlas micstand bases sitting on all three stand bases.

The stands

IMG_1878.jpg

are these guys from Monoprice

HDMI Cable, Home Theater Accessories, HDMI Products, Cables, Adapters, Video/Audio Switch, Networking, USB, Firewire, Printer Toner, and more!

which are reasonably priced IMHO and pretty flexible to use. With the iPad cases on, the iPad does not fit in the top holders, so I just set them on the bottom holders and keep an eye on them. If you were worried about the iPads walking away, you'd want to have no covers on them, and fit them in all four holders.

If you were talking about portability to carry the whole mess around with you, then no, it's not portable as a group but you just grab one iPad and go off and do your thing. I don't carry an entire analog console around the venue with me, either.

Back to arsenal of three iPads - perhaps cascading three routers with cable and having each connect only in one iPad might make your system more stable.

Don't know about stable, since as was pointed out adding more WiFi broadcasting to a space makes it harder not easier. OTOH, with the WiFi spectrum so cluttered in the places I work anyway, you are in tough shape if adding two channels to the sometimes dozens already there is the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Where more routers will be a benefit is in backup for the console control system and helping to identify where a connection problem is occurring.

Thanks,
Dan

PS Thanks, Jan, for the tip about the minifaders/meters using unnecessary bandwidth.

Re: X32 Discussion

Another thing i'd like to add to my list of urgent and (mostly) easy to implement features outlined here…
http://soundforums.net/junior-varsity/4393-x32-discussion-368.html#post65530
… is this:

You might use assign-buttons to jupm to a page, but you cant jump to a layer of that page!

Also, it would be nice to make MAIN L/R-Bus assignable to Mutegroups, because i noticed, that unlugging phantom-powered mics (yes, you first should turn out phantom on that line, but musicians my be faster than you:) still goes out.

Another easy to implement and useful feature would be a global bypass of all gates. We're doing some TV-stuff and it is required after everything is set-up to record a clap on all used lines simultaneously. So we have to bypass all gates and enable them afterwards. a global bypass of all gates would shorten that to seconds.

Realy needed: Delay on all Auxes, and analogs in/out. best configurable by dedicated tab like headamp-tab, because an in might have no fader-channel.

Re: Interface cards

Hi Jan,

Please, is Behringer on the way to extend one more Port for AES50 via extended card for 48 channels 48kHz sampling?
Or Do you have any other external solution inside of Music Group from Klark Teknik or Midas?
Thank you in advance for answer.

Jan

Re: p-16m midi implementation

Hi Folks. I have a question. I have recently purchased an iPad Gen 4 and loaded the X32 iPad app. I really like the app but I am having one problem. There seems to often be a large difference between the meter readings on the actual X32 and the meter readings on the iPad app. This could obviously lead to making corrections that are not appropriate. Is anyone else seeing that? Are the meters by any chance using different scales or something?

No. but the scale on the app is the fader position scale. Not the meter level scale. This has been discussed before. I see these meters as a help not as a accurate instrument.

Bug or Feature?

Came across something interesting today while setting up a ducker on a pair of linked channels on my X32. Seems that when the channels are linked, all the parameters are linked [as you would expect them to be] EXCEPT the Key In Source. If you want to set a ducker on a stereo input, you need to go to BOTH channels and set the Key Source to whatever you want the channels to duck under. Otherwise, your ducker will be keyed off of two sources simultaneously.

Not a big deal once you know about it. But weird nonetheless.

Re: iPad Connectivity

Regarding the regular freezing of the iPad screen that has been mentioned here periodically, after some searching I found a pdf titled "iPad Tips and Tricks" which, in its very last paragraph after 12 pages, mentions this freezing. It recommends a hard reset, and here is how to do that:

===================
Hard Reset iPad

OK, you have noticed the strange behavior of your iPad / iPad 2 or even new iPad 3. It tends to freeze for about a few seconds every minute or is running too slow or something else. This is probably the best time for the hard reset of iPad. To make things easy follow simple tips for iPad /iPad 2 / iPad 3:

  1. Make sure your iPad /iPad 2 / iPad 3 battery is charged above 20% ( we would recommend at least 50 - 60 %). If you are not sure charge you iPad for at least 40 minutes.
  2. Make sure your tablet is in Power On state.
  3. Watching the shining screen of iPad / iPad2 / iPad 3 with apps' icons on it press and hold down the
Wake/Sleep and the Home buttons simultaneously, ignore the red slide "to power off", just keep both buttons holding until the Apple logo appears. This logo is the signal that the hard reset has succeed. Be patient, sometimes the hard restart of iPad may take up to 10 - 15 minutes. But such a long restart is a rare case.

===================

Here is the full document in case it's useful. And, no, I don't remember where it came from. It is literally the only mention I could find of the phenomenon other than in this thread.

Dan...

Get on down to the nearest Apple Store and try it on one of theirs.....

Earlier someone suggested a separate thread for the x32 and recordings - will I be similarly vilified for suggesting a separate thread for the x32 and the iPad?

Re: X32-Edit and 15" touchscreen

My touchscreens have 1024x768, so the tight fit of the X32-Edit window is a must...

I tried with SwitchResX4, and all of a sudden, the X32-Edit window is higher up on screen, actually the top bar of the X32-Edit window with the minimize buttons is now covered by the Macs menu bar, but therefore the bottom of the window where the fader - zero position is, is now accessible with the pointer

Sure an 'Apple' thing, like many other Apple windowserver issues, not ?

Thanks anyway for reply

Klaus

Switchresx isn't the cure for this, but unhiding the dock at the bottom is

Thanks and best regards

No.

But didn't you already start one many months ago, and it died out? The beauty of this thread is that everything you need to know about an X32 is in here somewhere, and one only needs to check in one place each day to know what the hive mind is paying attention to at this time.

Splitting topics up into separate threads guarantees that each separate thread will die off sooner or later, while the omnibus thread keeps rolling along.

IMHO, of course.

Nope wasn't me

I did start one when the x32 first came out to do with initial checks on the x32
Some one else started one on the android app
some one on use in the studio.

there may have been others - oh yes someone recently posted about the S16 .. and that seems useful to have the info in one place

( I may have started another but can't recall what!!!!)

the main reason for doing one for the ipad ( or the others) is it could make it easier for people to find info on a particular aspect - but then personally I am not really bothered either way - just seems to be a sudden concentration on the Ipad ( again) at the moment.
