X32 Discussion

re: X32 Discussion

Hey guys,

I haven't been able to find anything in the documentation -- and we know how spotty it is -- but is there an output crossover? I've been using the x32 for a couple of months and have another on order for a permanent install. I don't bi-amp my mixes, but this permanent install currently uses a crossover to biamp the mains. Obviously, I'd rather do everything from within the x32.

Worst case scenario, I can change the wiring and run the speakers full range.

Thanks in advance!

Not a x-over, but you have got the low pass and high-pass on the outputs to allow you to implement a low-order x-over. You'll find a discussion about this early in this thread.
It starts here and goes on for a few pages.

Yes you're right, it's a Seeburg G3 with Galeo Sub and two Seeburg TSM 12 as Frontfills.
Sorry for staying off topic, but how are the Seeburg speakers compared to d&b and other top-line makes? Can they compete? Really like the look of the K24, would be ideal for my use if the also sound anything near d&b Q10.

Thanks for your comments Joe...

It's great to have u guys really listening to our voices over here... thanks again, I can't say enough about that....

Probably MY only real concern is the ipad app, coming from an ex-Presonus SL24 owner, where I had pretty much control over the whole board, as far as that board capabilities, and now being stuck without that great tool has been disappointing to me, somewhere on one of your videos on your youtube channel it is said that the ipad HAD full control over the board, so I took that to heart only to later realize it was not there yet, I know the board has only been on the market for a few weeks, the advancements you have done are nothing short of amazing, my gripe is only on having heard from a Behringer video that the ipad app worked so I bit the hook, I really hope you guys finish the app soon....

Cheers, Josh

Hi Josh,

First and foremost, I want to thank you for choosing BEHRINGER, and purchasing an X32.

I can tell you we are doing everything in our power to listen to you, our customer.

USB Stick:
I am reaching out to our development team in Germany and will see if there is a specific USB stick they have qualified. I want to point out that this is a USB stick issue, not an X32 issue. Bottom line, some inexpensive USB sticks have slow buffering, not allowing digital audio recording to work properly. Also, note many user issues with the USB recording functions, have been, user related, as they have not followed the manual and formatted the stick for FAT32. Note, the manual does recommend: "Please test the recording capability of your USB device before you do the “real stuff” as some sticks may not be supported or be too slow."

Page 32 of the X32 Manual:
5.16 Recording a 2-track directly with the console
The X32 offers the possibility to record a 2-track of your mix (or any other selection of signals) directly onto a USB-stick/external USB hard disk:
Plug a FAT-formatted (FAT12, FAT16, FAT32) USB stick into the USB port next to the main display.
Press the VIEW button next to the USB port and the home screen of the recorder will show up with a nice emulation of an old tape deck.
On the config tab you can select the source for the recording, default is main L and R.
Press RECORD (encoder #5) to record your mix.
To adjust the volume during playback, press the AUX IN / USB FX RETURN button next to the fader section and adjust the volume with the AUX 7/8 faders.
Remarks:
Due to the FAT format of the stick, the file size will be limited to 2 GB, which is about 3 hours of stereo recording. Please test the recording capability of your USB device before you do the “real stuff” as some sticks may not be supported or be too slow. We also recommend you defragment your USB device prior to recording. The recording will be done as 16-bit WAV file with the selected sample frequency of the console.
Please also note that it is possible that the specifications of USB storage devices may be changed by the manufacturer without any change in physical appearance or notification.

In regards to the iPad app:
I have seen information about the final iPad app for the X32, and can say you will not be disappointed, it will rival anything in the industry, but it is taking time. The X32 just hit the market approximately 1 month ago. We have addressed any issues with near immediate firmware upgrades, as this is the immediate need. The iPad app will follow suit with updates as we add functionality and just like the X32 itself will have an unprecedented feature set.

Service Issues:
In regards to any service issues that have come up (and there have been relatively few), we have diligently been helping those users in every way possible. I urge any user to send me a PM if they need help in any way with there X32.

Once again I want to assure you, we are listening to you the end user, and value your business.

The console is the *wrong* place to do system-related tasks like crossovers.

I'm sorry, I'm an amateur ;-)
I don't know the d&b speakers. The company where we sometimes rent the PA only uses Seeburg systems. But I heard a lot of bands with these and in my opinion they sound very good. Here are for sure enough experts who can give you a much better answer to this question.

Reaper & USB over XUF card

Hi all!

I've had my X32 now for about a week and I've been slowly getting my head around the many options and confirming that everything works as intended. Great piece of kit!

Where I'm struggling is with the XUF USB / Firewire expansion card. My intention was always to use an old Acer laptop to record 32 channels via USB using Reaper 4.0. I had the laptop already set up with Vista 64 fully patched and Reaper but my USB ports were playing up. I bought another USB port on a PCMCIA card to try that and I cannot get that working either. Then I tried another laptop and can't get it working. I just don't appear to have any evidence of audio appearing in Reaper in any way.

I don't really have any experience with Reaper so it may be something there that I'm doing wrong, but I am a pro audio guy and I'm also a pro IT guy so after 2 days of fiddling, I'm beginning to suspect the XUF card is faulty. I also noticed on the main X32 screen it says XU with a green light, not XUF.

So, anyone with experience of Reaper and an X32 have any pointers? It's got to be a hardware failure or something simple that I'm just not seeing in the Reaper manual.

Thanks in advance. :)~:)~

Kind regards, Andrew

Hi Andrew,

when you open the control panel of the Behringer USB driver, does it recognises the X32 with its ID number?
Are you sure, that you activated the Behringer Asio driver in Reaper?

X32 UK availability

Just in case anyone in the UK is about to buy: just had a e-mail from Strudiospares - they have seven X32's in stock and are saying that after those are gone, the next batch will cost more as there is going to be a price rise.

The X32 control panel software does indeed identify the X32. It also populates the Input and Output channels and ticking the box to specify hardware names to be included also makes the inputs appear differently in Reaper.

As for the ASIO driver I'm not sure. Like I said, I've never used Reaper before.

I do know that I went into the setup options, selected ASIO and Behringer XUF as the device. Below that there are two sets of options where you specify the start and end inputs and the start and end outputs. In both cases I set them to channel 1 and channel 32. Below that are a couple of options with tick boxes for sample rate and buffers (I think). I left them both unticked by default and changed the sample rate to 48000 same as the console.

Sorry, I'm working off memory here.

Then I remember hitting CTRL-T in the mixer view to bring a new channel up. In the track view, I selected input 1 as the hardware channel that feeds it and hit Record Enabled. When I'm playing music through channel 1 on the desk I would have expected something to register on the meter of channel 1 in Reaper no?

re: X32 Discussion

This is my first experience with a digital board and configuring it.

Essentially I am trying to figure out how to control my stage monitors. I have them patched into the AUX outputs (simply because I didn't have any XLR adapters on me).

I was able to work on it last night and figured out what I was doing wrong with the monitors. I had them set as pre-fader and also tapped into the mains. All sorted out now and works just fine.

Is it possible to save systems to a "default" file and keep that on a usb drive for safe keeping in the event someone comes in and changes things?

My next task is getting the inputs labeled and figuring out the FiWi/USB recording process.

Andrew:

Sounds like you have it all in-hand. I track live in Reaper to my Mac, but functionally, the only difference is the ASIO driver (Windows) versus class-compliant Core Audio on the Mac.

Have you had a look at Routing->Card Out to make sure you've mapped your input groups to the 4 "Local" groups (Local 1-8, Local 9-16, etc). You can map any 32 you wish, and I thought the default was set up this way, but maybe not. Now, bear in mind, the audio MUST be coming from the head-amp on the channel, NOT something else you've mapped to that fader (such as an Aux input, etc for an MP3 player). I test by just plugging a mic into the channel, and gently tapping on the windscreen. Here's a quick screen-cap of what my input drop-down looks like - and you're right - the channel DOES have to be set to record-enable. Perhaps I can try this on a PC a bit later today and get back to you with my results - mine will be W7 64bit, but the same basic kernel as Vista64.

Save as scene, if you only want the typical systems parameters to be reset on scene recall you should Safe the rest of the parameters before saving the scene. Maybe save one with no Safes for full restore as well.

re: X32 Discussion

Is there going to be an Xicontrol for iPad that will require higher than IOS 5.1?
I have a iPad 1 loaded with the current version and the 1 won't accept newer software I don't think?
