According to OSC-spec, channel name can contains up to 16 chars. I'm not sure ('cause I haven't X32), if the font size depends on name lenght. If you want to see smaller letters, try to add spaces at the end of channel name.

I've been looking for an affordable ADAT to 4x AES EBU convertor for similar reasons. That would be a nice extension to the S16s. There are convertors, but they cost >500€/$. Would be nice to have a 1U device with ADAT in at the back and 4x AES EBU out at front and back at 100-200€/$...

My preference for adjustable font size comes from the other direction: I'd like to see larger letters, and could be quite happy with fewer, larger ones. The default size for a few letters with no avatar is almost big enough so that I'm happy now, but could be happier.

If I recall correctly the Alesis AI-1 does that you might be able to find one used

Sure AES50 to aes/ebu would be better but I think Peter was looking for something today that was inexpensive. You are correct the AI-1 only has one output jack to support two chanels so it does not do the full 8

What do you need that many aes/ebu sends for anyway? Can't you just use something like multiple hosa boxes that convert 2 channels for $100?
 
anyone using a remote desktop program with an ipad?

Just tried splashtop2 on my macbook pro, 1024x768 mode works and fits great for controlling XiControl. Pinch to zoom works, but a little tricky with the 3 finger hold to move the desktop around when zoomed. I like the fact that the software works over a local network or (for a little $) over the internet. Sure is nice getting control of the mute groups and some other stuff with it!

Anyone try this or something else during a show? It seems nice to be able to have this as an option along with quickly switching to the app!

In reply to Uli's request for ideas regarding expansion cards, break-out boxes, accessories etc here are my thoughts:

I would like to send more than 32 tracks to a computer for recording. Ideally I would like:
A MADI I/O expansion card

If the expansion card slot is limited to 32 channels in and out I would still like to see:
A MADI I/O card with the ability to route 32 of the 64 MADI channels into the X32, route 32 channels out of the X32 to MADI, whilst passing through the unrouted MADI channels from the input to the output.
A 32 I/O AES3 card
A 32 I/O ADAT card

In terms of AES50 integration I would like to see:
AES50 to MADI I/O interface
AES50 to AES3 I/O interface
AES50 to ADAT I/O interface
These could be incorporated into s16 type stage boxes either as option card slots or as discreet units - giving you the option of Analog, MADI, AES3 or ADAT I/O connectivity.

Uli's comment that they are "currently looking into developing real-time, low-latency distribution network solutions with up to 160 channels over Cat5" is also interesting.I would welcome this with the addition of the same MADI, AES3 and ADAT interfaces.

In terms of software I would like to be able to route Channel Direct Outputs (with Dynamics and EQ, pre and post fade) directly to the expansion card without having to first route them to the P16 and/or analog outputs first.

In the past on an analogue board I've just had to juggle 24 faders and hope that the actor on the one I forgot to turn down doesn't head for the toilet (or worse) as soon as he gets off stage!

I've just realised that inserting a scene only works for scenes stored in X-control - you STILL can't insert a scene on the console, either directly or using X-control. That is no use to me at all - I need to be able to insert a scene whilst I am actively mixing the show during a rehearsal - or even during a performance if I find I need an extra scene. It's just not practical to have to turn away from the desk and look at a PC screen and use a mouse. then reload all the scenes back to the console.

I don't see how these devices help me to connect a S16 to eg a Dcx2496 digitally via AES EBU (without additional AD/DA conversions). I just want to convert the ADAT out on the S16 to AES EBU for my DCXs. That should not cost >200€/$.

I doubt it's reasonable for Beringher to invent this for $200 when there are so few asking for it... Doing it this way is still cheaper than the next cheapest alternatives in a different manufacturer by easily $1000-2000 or more.

Oh yeah. Just saw that Starin updated the dealer price sheet, and it says the 4 new x32 mixer models are due in 9/18/2013. It's also worthy to note that those dates can easily be delayed as they have in the past...

Still don't see how it can work with the appsys box and the hosa convertors: the appsys box has ADAT in/out and a proprietary utp protocol, while the hosa boxes convert between S/PDIF (TOSLINK) and AES EBU. ADAT is not the same as S/PDIF (TOSLINK).

The cheapest solution I found so far is the RME ADI-4 DD box...
Maybe I have to wait for the next DCX2496 solution: with ultra net? or with AES50? ;-)

This was not a request for a new feature. Multiple font sizes on scribble strips already exist. I just want to know how to use them. Perhaps Joe Sanborn or one of the other helpful Behringer folks can enlighten us as to how to select among the font sizes that already exist.

If you are including a picture (avatar, graphic whatever you want to call it) you get the small font, if you don't have a picture you get the large font. To select "no picture" go to the first entry in the list of graphics, it's empty, this is the "no picture" entry.
