X32 Discussion

Re: X32 Discussion

Given the three types of ethernet connectors on the back - Is there any risk of damage if I were to insert the wrong cable into the ports?

POE could possibly create havoc, but the standards are designed in such a way that the power is similar to phantom power on a mike and shouldn't do any damage if cables are ok.
Apart from stray POE, there shouldn't be any risk at all, especially if the standards are followed in the design of the aes interface.
I still wouldn't knowingly plug a POE supplying device into it though even if I thought it was safe.
I'm not sure what kind of voltage is on the Ultranet cable out of a P16 distribution box, but I would imagine the pin-assignments and voltages would be safe.

Hi Joe,

Are you recording these webinars? If so - How can we access them? - They'd be a great resource - thanks.

Re: X32 Discussion

Could it be it's on all the X32 consoles but some people just cannot hear it because it a very high frequency?

i really hope that most of the people here are still able to hear 6k ;)

This way you can determine if it's the monitor section that pick up some noice in the analog domain and if it affects the mains and/or recording.
with my x32 it affects phones/monitor/aux-ins.

accroding to joe it's an internal cable-routing-problem with a small batch (probably similar to the ch16/32 problem) and should be easy to fix.

cheers,
flo

Re: X32 Discussion

I'm unable to apply any FX for some reason.

I've read and re-read the manual (Page 27) which I think is a bit confusing. It refers to the fader bank labeled "RTN" button on the left side of the console - but that is labeled as Aux In USB FX Returns. Was that a change to the hardware not picked up in editing the manual before release perhaps? A small point of course.

I have a feeling some step is missing

Maybe its just me but this "adding" FX process seems to be more complex than it ought to be.

At least till I stumble onto the obvious thing I'm missing.

I will search this thread for any clues.

Meanwhile if someone has any advice about FX adding?

Hi Liam,
By default, the first 4 FX processors are fed by mix busses 13-16. The Vintage Room is routed to the first slot (Bus 13) by default. To hear this reverb, all you should have to do is raise the send to Bus 13 on whichever channels you would like fed to the Reverb. You will need to make sure the master Bus Send for Bus 13 is turned up (using the third layer on the right side of the console, labeled BUS 9-16). The return for this effect will appear on the 3rd layer on the left (input) side of the console (labeled AUX IN / USB / FX RETURNS).
Remember that you can reset your console to the default configuration at any time by engaging the Initialize Console option on the "Config" tab of the SETUP menu. This might help when trying to follow the manual.
If you need anymore assistance, PM me anytime.

Lol... well it just sounds higher then 6khz but if is, then I agree everyone should hear it. Joe from Behringer PM me and asked to contact the Vegas facility so that's what I'll do. Great service from Behringer :).

Re: X32 Discussion

After a long wait I got my X32 yesterday. As a soundconsultant I often hear my customers say: Is it safe with Behringer, Is it going to work for a long time. And I must say that my experince is rather good with B.
During my first hours with what I tought was gonna be a good choice for many of my customeres when they are going to change their mixer next time, I found some questions.

1. The solobutton on chanelstrip 3(19,aux 3, mixbus 3) doesn´t work. It´s lightable but the pushfunction doesn´t work. Is this not checked at the factory??

2. I was not able to play back from computer when connected with firewire (missmatch??) but it works fine with USB. On the X32 the option (X-UF) is not selectable in the syncronization window, so I cant try the computer as clock master. (Windows Vista)

3. Why isn´t possible to solo the channels in the X-control program for PC. A function I use a lot on Yamahas Studiomanager.

4. Missing Deesser as a Channel function

5. I also tried to use X-32 as a controlsurface with Sonar but they seem speak different languages. The midi works but the Mackie control commands are not recognized. Is this not a standard?

6. Midi controlled tempo delay. My customers don´t have their own sound engineer so they often use midiclock to change the delaytimes instead of creating a scene for every song or tempo. When playing 3-4 hours there will be a lot of scenes.
This standard with Yamaha!!
7. On the routing utility it would be nice to be able to change the routingsetup and to save just your routing. Let´s say you record the soundcheck to to some more mixing without the band. Instead of use Scen recalls it would be easier to save and recall different routing setups.
8. It would be nice to be able to play MP3s from the USB player.

I'm getting more and more confused, and allthough I've been able to get the effects to work in various manners, either doing it the way that is described or inserting the effects in the mix-busses, I'm quite certain that the block diagram and the information on the screens in no way indicates that the faders on the mix busses have to be turned up for the effects to sound.
By all accounts, the effect in it's initial state will get the signal from the mix bus and is set to, and able to, provide a signal straight to the main mix bus. The effect should therefore be independent of the mix bus processing channel, including the fader. I'm quite sure I've had it working like this, at least in an older firmware version.
I'll go down to the workshop later and investigate, because I certainly got mighty confused the other night about this and other routing issues. Managed to get everything working but am convinced that there was a lot of double routing going on at the end of it all.
(lack of practice and still set in old ways I know :)~:-)~ )

Routing can be stored in the library and on file with a .rou extension

Re: X32 Discussion

I did a recording test and routed USB L to channel 1-16 but I can´t see how to store it. When I do a routing recall it just choose analog in 1-8, 9-16 and so on (Library preset 1) and then I have to "connect" them.

In the Library menu/routing tab, you can store and export presets.
In the routing menu it is also available if you press the Utility button, but you can't export from there.

I can confirm getting effects to work is easy at least from my point of view and works in a pretty standard "analogue" way. Adjust bus send on the channel (13 - 16) ensure bus master is up and FX returns are routed to stereo out. Just works for me no issues.

It seems that the changes I made in the Source window in Home/config page isn´t stored in the routing. I think Yamahas "Patch" storing and recalling is something to copy.

You need to select the scope of what is getting stored and recalled by ticking the appropriate boxes at the left of the screen

Problems raising....:(~:-(~

Console SN° S1203404ASF
-This console has a "reboot" issue. It happened 5 times, while console was left alone, without touching it.
-Heavy "numeric" buzz on headphones.
-When arrived, 4 sliders were "shaking"...the problem disappeared after one hour of use.
This console is going back to the reseller - Thomann - by UPS tomorrow.

As we needed a console, we brought another x32...arrived this morning :
Console SN°S1203600ASF
- 4th bus slider is going up, but doesn't go down.
- "wizzzzzzzz" noise in various sliders (not all the time).
I asked Thomann if it was possible to open the console, as a contact failure may cause that, but they sait that it would void warranty, so, it will go back to Thomann too.

Have you experienced this kind of problems ?

I remember Mr Uli saying that the failure percentage of their products was like 0,7%... from here, it's much more and I'm seriously afraid for the reliability of this console.

As you all know, reliability is an absolute condition for pro use, and even if a failure is always possible with any console, Behringer should improve quality check.
You can imagine my disappointment.

Per, from what it sounds like, you are wanting to set the "loop effects" (as the manual calls them) to a pre-fader state. I am sure there is a routing/setup tab to allow this. I will search the manual for a reference on where this might be. The bus for whatever effect you are using will have to be enabled to hear the return of the effected signal so in that situation, yes something will have to be up for you to hear your effect.

Re: X32 Discussion

Hi Gunnar,

In regards to your questions and solo issue:

1. The solobutton on chanelstrip 3(19,aux 3, mixbus 3) doesn´t work. It´s lightable but the pushfunction doesn´t work. Is this not checked at the factory??
Answer: Sorry to hear of this issue, we will immediately take care of this for you. Our repair facility has contacted you via PM for immediate action.

2. I was not able to play back from computer when connected with firewire (missmatch??) but it works fine with USB. On the X32 the option (X-UF) is not selectable in the syncronization window, so I cant try the computer as clock master. (Windows Vista)
Answer: When using Firewire you must have it Sync to Computer. The External Sync if for future expansion cards that you might Sync to.

3. Why isn´t possible to solo the channels in the X-control program for PC. A function I use a lot on Yamahas Studiomanager
Answer: I will request this with our development team, and see if it can be implemented.

4. Missing Deesser as a Channel function
Answer: I will request this as a dedicated FX.

5. I also tried to use X-32 as a controlsurface with Sonar but they seem speak different languages. The midi works but the Mackie control commands are not recognized. Is this not a standard?
Answer: This is more of a Sonar issue than an X32 issue as the Control functions work flawlessly with ProTools and Logic. I just receive an NFR of Sonar so we will be trying to get this working ASAP.

6. Midi controlled tempo delay. My customers don´t have their own sound engineer so they often use midiclock to change the delaytimes instead of creating a scene for every song or tempo. When playing 3-4 hours there will be a lot of scenes.
This standard with Yamaha!!
Answer: I will look into implementing MIDI tempo for the delays.

7. On the routing utility it would be nice to be able to change the routingsetup and to save just your routing. Let´s say you record the soundcheck to to some more mixing without the band. Instead of use Scen recalls it would be easier to save and recall different routing setups.
Answer: You press Routing, then press Utility, the first encoder gives you options of what routing be included in your save. This allows exact recall of what routing you wish to recall.

8. It would be nice to be able to play MP3s from the USB player.
Answer: Will forward the request to the development team.

Re: X32 Discussion

has anyone managed to get Sonar X2 ( and / or the Producer Expanded version of X2) to enable all 32 ins / outs through the X_FU?

I can only toggle the first 4 stereo i/o when running under the MME driver

When I switch to ASIO there are more i/o showing but I cannot toggle them.

In Live 8.3.4 I can see all i/o channel options

Why not in Sonar?

MME? You should not use that for anything ;-)

Use WDM instead.

If you actually meant WDM, microsoft only supports a maximum of 8 channels. This is probably meant for 7.1-surround.
