X32 Discussion

Re: X32 Tech Talk

I don't think we should have to lug a 50 pound 800 dollar gorilla to each show, there seems to be good luck following the spec laid out here on this forum for a UPS that will kick in in less than 20 milliseconds. I use one from that kicks in between 2 and 10 milliseconds and seems to work just fine. I've used other ones around 80 dollars from APC that have failed.

At least until Behringer rolls out one of their own, I would like to offer for those on this forum, the Roland Digital snake cable and spool for just a little over 1 piece dealer cost (If I post the prices, somebody get's angry and I'd like to skip that part). It's available in 20 meter (65') and 100 meter (328') lengths, the spool is also available with the 100m cable optionally as well. Please PM me for details or send me an email for details. The cable is shielded (STP), and comes with ethercons.

...i think a double conversion true sinewave ups is the right choice
i'm using an APC SURT1000RMXLI right now and i've not experienced any issue whatsoever! my snake is a eurocable 6*cat6 UTP with a shield on the outside jacket

Ditto, I'm using an EATON UPS 3S, that hardly cost anything and have provoked it many times without a hitch. It fits inside the flighcase during transport.

The 100 m version plus a lengthy patch from the spool gets quite close to the maximum length, so I would personally opt for the 60m version unless I was positive that I would need a longer length.

Edit: I see I was mistaken in thinking there was a socket on the spool requiring a patch cable, so the point I made is obviously moot.

Yep, and you shouldn't need an extra patch for the spool, it's setup so that you can wrap the extra cable up on the the side for the front end for about 10'-20', so you shouldn't go over.

where's the p16-m's?

Just wondering why Starin and Thomann are both out of stock for the last month on the p-16m? Looks like no more for another month? What gives - my clients want to know? Why NEVER any firm expected by dates? Shouldn't they be trackable?

Re: X32 Tech Talk

Re the description of case 3, parallel compression: I might have missed something, but as far as I have experienced, the DCA will affect the sub group send level and thus the signal feeding the compression, so pulling down the DCA will not only lower the overall level, but will affect the balance between compressed and uncompressed signal. It might not be an issue when using heavy compression and a very low treshold combined with relatively small DCA adjustments, and the effect of changing the balance might not be undesired as such, but as far as I can tell, the balance will be affected.

Hello Per,
Thank you for pointing that out. I have updated that example in the Tech Talk article.

Re: X32 Tech Talk

I would really like to see an X32 Tech Talk on saving and using safe parameters, as it is something that seems to come up often. I would like to be able to do these things:

- Have a scene that is my default scene for a band I work with that recalls everything, but then be able to have different scenes recalling ONLY effects changes between the scenes, leaving all other things alone. I'm sure this is do-able, I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around which safes to have checked when saving the original scene, and then which to have checked for the "change effects" scenes.

Hi,

Great idea! We will put this on the list and cover this in a Tech Talk in the coming few weeks.

The explanation given to us is that Starin has NO idea when a shipment will be arriving, or what will be in that shipment. It could be one piece of a particular item, or a hundred or five hundred or none at all.

They come by boat, and maybe the boat that left later will arrive sooner. This seems like an odd way to do things, as the people shipping must know what they put in the container, and the shipping company must know where all their ships are, but there you go.

Hello

Some 50 years ago my big brother was sailor on a "wild" boat" - that is - they only knew the next harbour, while shipping companies were running business like taxi - wherever the customer wants his freight to go ( and if there is enough of it ) so that´s where they went. Obviously there was some "regular bus lines" between major harbours, where they allways had enough to transport.

Perhaps someone working in a shipping company could tell us how it is today.

Re: Live Recording with X32

speaking of effects, what is everyone's favorites in this board? Anybody else using the wave designer inserted on drums?

I use the wave designer on snare and have used it on kick/bass. It like it.
Still trying out the different reverbs but I think my favorite so far is the gated reverb and plate reverb.
I have used the Ambiance effect a number of times just to give a bigger sound to an instrument, worked great on a Glockenspiel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I haven't had much use for the combo effects, flangers, etc.
The de-esser I have not had much success with.

This has all been a learning experience for me as I have no experience using effects prior to this. So it has been fun learning what the different controls do to the sound. Sometimes its obvious and other times it is not so obvious.

But I agree the Waves Designer effect is probably my most used and favorite of the bunch so far.

I was beginnig to think this was a cat5 forum... We're using a plate reverb on the snare, wave designer on the toms and kick. I'm still trying to find the right reverbs for the vocals. Going to try a plate layered over a vintage hall, and of course we use a tap delay. We had been using the pitch shifter, and it's nice on harmony parts, but not worth giving a slot up for... I may set it up in a scene for the odd times I can use it. I might do a gated reverb on the drums also. The other tech tried it instead of the wave designer and tweaked the compression and EQ a bit and they sounded pretty good.
I tried the ambiance, but I didn't like it.... haven't tried the de-esser...

Anybody else used the chorus / delay or reverb?

One option might be to setup and save your favorite effects settings into your effects preset library. You could then go to the Library section --->effects tab. then load the next custom effects patch(es) into the appropriate slot(s). Not sure how complex your needs are, but this is another way to do it without scene changes and 'safes'.

Re: where's the p16-m's?

Yes - that's EXACTLY how it is with Starin right now. How do they not know what's inside those containers? Seems like the next container to arrive might have a large monkey that pops out and steals their girlfriend for all they know...

Re: where's the p16-m's?

Just had a thought. What if there's actually a "factory" in the boat. They're building product as they're crossing the sea. So, how much gets built depends on a few factors including how choppy the water is. Is "Waterworld" on Netflix? Might have to check that out again.

Re: X32 Discussion

I hope I can help.
how to configure the router and notebook to wirelessly control the mixer via x control.
I have a Belkin router (192.168.2.1) and I could not set it up properly.
thanks

Please don't give anyone any ideas....

Starin is not the only company in that situation; I ordered some necessary cases from a different but similar company for a time-sensitive situation well in advance, and a couple weeks out was told on Friday that the next shipment from the factory was likely a week and a half late and there would be a day or two turnaround after they arrived, which would make it very tight for my event. I found some others at a higher shipping price, but available to ship Monday, so I ordered those, too, figuring I'd wait and see which got to me first, and would cancel the not-yet-shipped one.

The very next Monday I got an email from the original company saying that my cases had shipped (the ones that on Friday were supposed to be a week and a half late), shortly after receiving an email from the second company that their cases had shipped.

Re: X32 Tech Talk

John,

Use the scenes to save settings within a performance. If you are doing a theatre gig and then a band the next gig, they should be saved as separate shows. The scenes are contained in the shows. When you recall the show, all the scenes and parameters come back, including your set up of scene safes.
I haven't got my desk here at the moment but I think, from memory, that paging down from the scene memory screen takes you to the show memory screen.

Darren

Well wouldn't that be nice. But I fear that you can only have one show in the console at a time. I'd be thrilled if someone told me I was wrong!

TBH I think the entire scene management scheme for the X32 is a complete disaster, and needs to be re-written from the ground up.

Mick Berg.

Hi Mick,

I believe the shows are exported to usb. I have an 8gb drive that resides in the console. Shows can be recalled at will.

Cheers,

Saving different bands

Hello

First you build up the show for your first band. Then you save it as BAND A
Then you do the changes in your effects. Save that in empty scene as BAND B or the name of a song - actually you can do this for every song as long you have free slots in your scene list ( 100 available )

No need to check anything at SCENE SAFES

Works for me - I first made horrible mistakes trying to use SAFE-checks - simply confusing words SAVE and SAFE

Hope this helps
