X32 Discussion

Re: X32 Wins MIPA Award

I think you may be the only one concerned with anyone thinking that, TJ... If that is your real name... Even a newbie knows that some things cost WAY more than others for a reason.

Hey Uli, keep on keepin' your team kickin' out those awesome console designs man! I hope one day your company makes ssomething that even gives the big consoles a run for the money!

I'm glad my comments are starting to make sense...

The USB Player

I've been using the USB player on the X32 to play pre-show announcements, and it's very handy, but I've found some strangeness with it. The sixth encoder allows you to select which file you want to play, but it seems that in order to select it you have to press the encoder, which plays the file, which of course you may not want.

Also, the old-style cassette player graphic is fun, but I think better information display is needed, so it should either be removed or at least made much smaller. I'd like to see the name of the file, length, time elapsed, and time remaining displayed much more clearly, and also an indication on the home page of whether I am in Single or Folder mode.

Thanks,
Mick Berg.

Re: X32 Wins MIPA Award

I'm glad my comments are starting to make sense. I'm pretty sure Uli and co. aren't trying too hard to correct the impression an uneducated reader might get that the X32 is functionally superior to the SD5.

It is an award for "best" live sound console, and anyone with an ounce of insight into anything knows what these kinds of awards means.
To imply that it would be somewhat unethical for Uli & Co. to exploit this and not rectify the impression that the X32 has been awarded for being the "best" in every aspect, that is just petty and uneducated. While one might not expect the average potential customer for the X32 to be educated in the ways of high profile live sound, one would certainly expect them to have basic knowledge about the ways of the world.

Then why did I have to explain it?

@Declan - I'm not concerned about it - I'm entertained by it - hence my using the word "hilarious".

Congrats to all of you with the best console, and congrats to Uli for winning a truly prestigious award.

Re: Scribble strip bug (or quirk)

I believe something like this has been mentioned before, couldn't find it with a search so it might have been in the Behringer Forum.

I had one channel selected, ch.4 and went into the scribble strip utility and changed text and colour, but nothing, tried again, same result, and then I noticed the strip on channel one had changed. It seems that you need to select channel after you have entered the channel strip utility, that it won't default to the channel already selected. Not a biggie, but certainly something to keep in mind.
Can't remember if the issue described before was exactly similar, I think it was someone that couldn't get the strip on ch.16 to change, and this might be why.

This happened to me last week...

Yesterday, for some reason I had no kick drum (ch 17). Turned off the board and restarted, everything was fine...

Re: X32 Wins MIPA Award

Then why did I have to explain it?<snip>

Explain to whom? Was there any misunderstanding about the scope and implications of the award except inside your head?
Was there any risk of someone opting out of the SD5 in favour of the X32, or did anyone think that winning this award would ever produce such a situation?
Did you really think that anobody needed explaining that winning the award would not help sway potential SD5 customers in the direction of the X32?
Or were you just miffed that the X32 got the award?

"Best live sound console" to me means "Live console with the biggest impact in the market" in this particular instance. Another year it might mean "Live console with the most unique feature" or whatever quality that seems to sway the vote any particular year. If you think the award should be for "Live console with the most features", you are certainly free to think that, but as long as that is not stated in the name of the award, it is certainly not hillarious or misleading that the award is given to a console that hasn't got the most features.

Re: X32 Wins MIPA Award

If you were not concerned then why post? You seem to think that the votes of hundreds of industry people is a joke, interesting. Perhaps your logic is flawed here? Per is right, you totally come off "miffed" that the vote did not go the way you expected. Behringher has truely "changed the game". Be careful my friend, the "bias", that we talked about before, is showing again here.

Then why did I have to explain it?

Hello Nick,
I have not heard of this particular situation before. If it occurs again, PM me and I will be happy to assist you.

At least, if you use the sixth encoder to find your soundclip and then go out of the menu, the marker will still be in the same position when you return, so it doesn't stop you from preselcting the clip you want. Making the selct function select only instead of select and play certainly have some merit, but I guess there would be complaints no matter what, since we like doing things different, and we sometimes like doing things different depending on the situation.

And, YES let's get rid of that tape recorder graphic.

Loading MP3's to USB Drive?

Trying to load a flash drive with 48K MP3's for playback. I copy them to a drive, but it doesn't show up when inserted into X32? Other files on the drive show up and play.

Re: Loading MP3's to USB Drive?

I've got around the sample rate/MP3 issue for playback by spending £20 on a cheap 4GB MP3 player.
That frees up the onboard USB slot to use as a 2 track recorder.
After faffing around upscaling CD rips to 48KHz, I just couldn't be bothered.
I've already got an MP3 collection (192 and 320). Why bother ripping it all and then renaming files, etc again, at any sample rate?

That £20 I spent on the MP3 player was money well spent.
I have a cable taped in place on the front of the desk and it is permanently wired into Aux7+8 inside the flightcase.
Playback comes from the faders next to where the USB playback would come from, so it's not as if it's buried in the layers somewhere.
It also saves having to swap out USB drives for the pre/post show music and for the recording, etc.

I mean, what else is the cup holder in the right hand corner of the desk for...?
It certainly doesn't hold cups very well...........

The cable going up from the player is for the charger. It is not permanently connected.
The right angled audio cable is.

Screen Refresh Bug

After setting up the De-Esser on my board, I punched the "Meters" button to find that none of the black borders appeared. Just had some "floating" meter segments. Going to Home and back to Meters resolved the refresh issue.

Umm, Aux 7-8? Not sure how you would do that... I run my iPod/iPad through Aux 5-6 and do not futz with the on-board player so yes, any mp3 player can be used for mp3 playback with just a 3.5 to RCA or 1/4 cable.
