Re: X32 rack won't boot from usb to update firmware

Hi Tim,

It doesn't seem to be quite like that for 2.10, at least. He did the inserting on the bus home screen and lost signal, and on FX 1-4 there is not an insert button on the upper right above the faders like there is on FX 5-8.

You actually have to turn the assign knob counterclockwise ahead of bus 1 and it says "insert" there and you then select it just like selecting a bus source. It doesn't correlate to the bus in that screen.

Then you go to the home screen of the bus in question (in this case Bus 1) and dial in FX1L Dual TruGraphic (or whatever its name is) in the insert menu. Then it seems to work, I think. Bus 2 would be FX1R, etc. for those first 4 FX slots.

Not what he or I were expecting, but it's been a long time since either of us has needed more than 8 EQ's and maybe we forgot how to get there, unless some recent firmware revision has changed it.

Hey Dan -

I assumed he had already assigned his bus to the chosen eq and wasn't getting signal... once you have chosen the bus for the eq you must activate "insert", either on the home screen of the selected bus or on the fx screen of the graphic, on the upper right above the faders. If you try to activate the insert before you assign something to it, you will lose signal.

He needs to make sure he has chosen a "dual" eq and not stereo if he's using each bus as a monitor channel. Good to hear he's had success.

I am new to this forum. I have an X32 and have questions. This thread is 530 pages and counting! Any advice on finding answers here? I don't want to start re-posting questions that have been dealt with. Right now, this thread seems to big for me usefully search. Thanks.

Hi Gwynne,

The last word of your post is the answer.

Up in the upper right of the screen is a very useful search function. You can't just say "everything", but if you tell it to look for specific words or phrases you'll get a list of every time that has been discussed.

Pretty much everything about the console and its features and associated programs and hardware has been at least mentioned here if not discussed thoroughly.

Enjoy the console!

Gwynne: if you haven't watched Drew Brashler's Youtube tutorials, you should probably start there. I did, and it put me in a position to understand most of the things people were saying elsewhere.

Re: X32 rack won't boot from usb to update firmware

Dan - interesting stuff...

I was using the EDITOR to try to quickly help out, and there is a slight difference from the console (2.10) (which I just pulled out of the trailer. *by the way, the x32 at 30 degrees F will boot up!)

First, the procedure I have used to set up the fx rack spaces with eqs for the busses is: (X32 CONSOLE)
-populate the desired rack spaces with the dual eq of your choice on fx main screen.
-select the 2 busses for each eq on the fx main screen.
-turn on INSERT on the selected BUS CHANNELS home screen, or on the selected eq fx screen while using editor, or, -IF- rack spaces 5-8, the fx main screen.

2 different ways to get there, whichever method is easier for the operator. If using racks 5-8, everything can be done on the main fx screen, if 1-4, everything except inserting can be done. I prefer doing this on the fx screen, it's simpler for me.

Thanks for the educational dialog!

Cheers,

Thanks. Should I be using the "Search Thread" or the "Advanced Search". Can't watch vids at work, but will check out at home. (Can't browse forums either, really!)

To get really good search results, I would suggest using Google's resources. The reason I say that is because you can really narrow down where you are looking for information by using the "site:" modifier.

Let's say you have a question about patching on the X32 and you want to search this thread for it. Here is what I would do:

1. Open a web browser page and open the site: www.google.com
2. In the search field enter:
x32 patching site:https://soundforums.net/threads/4393-X32-Discussion/

You should get about 86 results and they are ALL directly from this thread.

You can use this same trick on other websites if you are looking for specific information from a specific source.

X32 ver 2.0 Effect Quality

I have searched this discussion thread and not found any discussion on this. I hope I'm not duplicating.

What are your opinions on the relative quality of the built in effects on the X32 compared to VSTs? I'm thinking regular VSTs; Waves, Cakewalk etc. Particularly the newer ver 2.0 effects like the 1176, the La2a and pultec EQs. I realize beauty is in the eye of the end of the tunnel - or whatever that expression is. But I'm looking for a more general 'they are vastly inferior to decent VSTs'; 'vastly superior'; 'pretty comparable'.

My reason for asking is that I have an X32, a few nice preamps, but no external compressor or EQ. I was thinking about getting a pair of compressors to lightly compress and color when tracking. If the FX rack effects on the X32 are comparable to solid VSTs then perhaps saving my hardware compressor money and using the X32 comps to track would make sense.

Re: X32 Output Card Options

I see big B is offering new output cards for the X32. The std USB card works OK for me, although the driver can be a bit finicky. I sometimes have to turn the X32 off and on a few times before the PC sees it correctly. For a PC user, does the new ADAT card (or any other new card) offer any benefits? My first thought was that the ADAT, with a solid PCie card, might offer lower latency. Would there be an advantage using the PCie card's world clock? Digital is digital, right? There's no sound quality difference between USB and ADAT, yeah? It just might offer better performance with higher track count in simultaneous use perhaps? If so, how many simultaneous tracks might I expect to be able to record via USB before running into trouble - and looking to the ADAT card for an upgrade?

Thanks

Re: X32 ver 2.0 Effect Quality

I guess I do have another question. Is there any thought to having third party venders provide FX rack effects? Maybe a pack of 10 Waves effects for X32 for $99

A PCI-card will almost always give you better performance and latency than usb. Only your application can tell how important that is. In general the x32 usb is pretty fast and will work for most situations.

A 32 channel adat PCI card would be quite expensive so it would probably be a better option to get a Dante card or some aes50 card instead.

Since you already have the x32 you can try the fx and see if you like them. External hardware have its life and character of their own but I find that emulations in general are more than enough for my needs.

Would I love to have a la2-a sitting on my desk? Of course I would, but I don't need one...

Re: Behringer x32 limiter

I do that all the time, even key it to a low pass filter to get excursion limiting on the subs etc. By sourcing the output pre-fader on the matrix, you can prevent the matrix fader from having any influence as well.

This is what I ended up doing aswell. Thanks for the comments everyone!

Re: Behringer x32 limiter

Hello friends,
When I record sound to my PC from my old mixer DYNACORD POWERMATE 1000 connected via RCA out and in PC via microphone input, I have super sound recored in SOUND FORGE 7.0.
But when I want to record sound with X32 the signal from mixer is OK, but the sound that is recorded is terrible. It's so quit and with lot of noise. I didn't know what is the problem?
is it the problem with PC or with X32?

What kind of noise? Hiss? Hum? Buzz? Digital data varying noise?
Can you not record via USB? The quality will be vastly better than any kind of analogue connection, particularly a soundcard mic input!

Hello

First you should tell us what kind cables you use - which outputs of X32 you use etc - sounds you have balanced-to-unbalanced-problem, too...

Meanwhile - looking at Powermate manual - there is "REC SEND" with two RCA-connectors - I assume you are using those. On X32 you could connect those same cables into AUX5&6 OUT with RCA-connector. You can set those outputs to have their signal directly from LR or use dedicated mix for them.

But running line level into MIC-input of your computer does really NOT seem a good idea - is there no line-input? If not - get a USB-card for you computer - they cost next to nothing, considering you spent money on X32.
